Ridiculously Wrong Shinies in Old Pokemon Games (Colosseum & XD) 

I honestly like a lot of these more than the real ones, especially voltorb even though it's a bit lazy. Personally I think it's really cool they made different shinies.

I actually like the black bear Ursaring...Better than the glowstick we got.

Pre gen 6 shinies were determined by an algorithm which swapped palettes with the nearest colors that wouldn't mess with shading (hence why a lot of older shinies has certain patterns such as lime green and blue to pink). This algorithm also applied to the early 3d pokemon titles. There's been arguments that some shiny's palette's were deliberate pre-gen 6 (gyarados for example) but even then it is agreed that this is a rare case if it was what occurred. However, being 3d models and not the traditional sprites, they came with their own palette, and the algorithm worked with that instead, hence the major differences in quite a few shinies in stadium 2, colosseum and XD. However, starting from gen 6 they changed this and now manually create the shinies for the 3d models.

Be real though, I would of love for the Cyndaquil Species have a Green Flame for their Shiny in the main series. I mean the Orange fur is cool but, green flame would make it dope.

They seem to be based more off the gen 2 shiny colours

I am probably not the first person to bring this up, but shiny ninetales didn’t get the blue tips on its tails til gen 4. I don’t really blame you for bringing that up because shiny ninetales is known for the blue tips. But this video is fun to watch.

Some of them look better, like Rattata, the Tentacool line, Gengar (was actually my rough estimate of what one would look like when I caught my shiny Gastly in Diamond back before I had the Internet.), Voltorb, Exeggutor, the Cyndaquil line (those green/blue flames would be amazing.), Scizor, Suicune (THUNDERCLOUD!) etc.

This is so disorganized You should put the correct shinies next to all of them or at least all the wrong ones. You say "that's not right" on some, but don't show what the correct ones look like.

I don’t know if anyone posted the explanation, but before gen 6 and such, they used a pallet generator toner the shinies. The thing is, they did that for these Games as well. Because it was on a GameCube, the colors were very different than the game boy advance. Often 2D didn’t translate into 3D well for GameCube things.

I find a ton of these to be way better than the regular shinies

Even though they had terrible shinies, I'm glad Colosseum & XD are still somewhat being talked about, because I ADORED those games and how they showed a grittier side of Pokemon. One of my favorite Pokemon games to this day tbh

Wow... I never realized how dated and... bad? these 3D models looked...? I guess they were good at the time, I remember as a kid thinking that they were amazing.

Colosseum & XD messing up the shinies reminds me of ordering food at a restaurant and the restaurant getting your order wrong.

I love how the shiny Sneasel in Colosseum uses the retconned Gen 2 G/S colour palette for Sneasel, brown and green. The brown/green palette looks much better than the absolutely horrendous pink/yellow shiny palettes they use now.

Shiny Nidoqueen actually is Green for some reason, instead of going purple

Magcargo isn't that wrong, it used to look like this in Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal. Just a reminder Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire came out the november 21rst 2002 and Pokémon Colosseum came out just a year later the 21 november 2003. They had to create the 3D models for each pokémons, including the special forms (Unown, Castform etc), so according to this I guess they started to create the 3D models before gen 3 came out and they based the color choices on the gen 2 (because it would waste time to change the shinies again). They also had to program a lot of stuff beside the 3D models.

God the Colosseum and XD shinies are so damn badass. Especially Quilava with that Green Flame.

Here is what presumably happened. Likely story is that for some drastically different shinies (like charizard) they actually made a separate palette, however for more most other shinies rather than waste space on multiple full palettes they probably added tints of the general shiny's true colors.

This was such a fun video to watch. I love these shinies so much. It's like they tried to recolor things correctly with a good number of them, but then with the others they just tossed those filters on all of the textures without even paying attention to what parts they were filtering at the last second, making a lot of the ugly shinies with even tinted eyes that we see here. I doubt they expected anyone to see most of these!!! Great vid, and I'm glad that the world is getting to see these. Also thanks for the shoutout!

Ugh, I remember transferring my shiny metagros to colosseum only to find out it turned into this disgusting pink color. Transferred it back instantly xD

Personally I find it really neat how lots of these differ from the normal look, but the ones where they just slapped a filter on it are definitely not very impressive. You should do a vid on the Stadium 2 ones too, some of those look insane

Shinies have been changing for years, Charizard was Purple before they changed him to Black, butterfree was Pink in Gold and Silver, plus they wasnt Gamefreak games so theyre allowed to have theyre own spin on things

A couple ironies here. First of which quite a number of shinies you thought were correct were still indeed inaccurate (Tangela's "shoes" don't turn blue and neither do Absol's claws to name a couple). And secondly, regarding the sheer laziness of the game itself, roughly a third weren't changed whatsoever.

A lot of these pallets are re-used from Stadium 2, so it may be that they didn't bother changing some of these from Gen 2.

I think you pretty much called it. Most of these look like they just lazily put a color filter over the regular textures. The sad part is, someone got paid to do these wrong. Someone else probably got paid to quality check it and didn't know or care as well. I guess they just figured no one will get shiny pokemon on here so why bother.
