It's a great project we'll done. As a motorcycle mechanic for over 40 yrs I'd like to point out a couple of things. The shock is losing around 30% of it travel when you sit on it. It should have sag but nowhere near that amount ( it's not a mtb) Whoever said the rake is to steep is right. It might be worth getting a frame designer it to take a look at it. Just my opinion Like I said before well done that took a lot of hard work to get it where it is.
@ladiandmargaret
@ladiandmargaret 9 дней назад
Thanks. What’s the solution for the rear shock? I’m not sure I understand. Is it supposed to be stiffer or the geometry is wrong?
@kinza999
@kinza999 9 дней назад
@ladiandmargaret to me it looks like the linkage is wrong but very hard to say how to fix it from just seeing a video of it. The ratio (lengths) on the linkage makes a huge difference. Look at Honda and Yamaha MX bikes for reference.
@ladiandmargaret
@ladiandmargaret 9 дней назад
But what is it supposed to do vs what it does now?
@kinza999
@kinza999 9 дней назад
@ladiandmargaret from the video it looks like it moves 30 + percentage when you sit on it. So if it has 180mm travel you're loosing 60mm. It also looks like it let's the swing arm travel at the same rate and doesn't ramp up. But this is all from watching, if there's a M/C frame place or suspension place near you it might be worth them looking at it. I could be totally wrong, it's just something doesn't look right

Are we talking about the front suspension? We already have shock with stronger springs. We are not aiming for this bike to be MX.

i love it, i think it's mostly perfect. id like to add my suggestions to the subframe assembly, specifically. 1- while still retaining your 18/21 wheels, have a Small Medium and Large subframe option. keeps the seat in the same forward to back position, just adjusts the up and down geometry by about an inch each. 34, 35, and 36 inches would be about right. use the same four mounting bolts for all for all three subframes. 2- extend the subframe out a bit farther, to have the ability for a small luggage rack behind the rider. if the bike is positioned as a commuter, you need to have the option to carry more than the storage compartment inside the subframe will offer. wearing a backpack on a bike sucks. this will also offer a bit better mud and rain protection when getting slung off the back wheel onto your back. 3- the storage box inside the subframe could have panels that attach to the outside edge of the tubing, vs inside, so you can take advantage of that extra space? 4- i would consider a slightly longer/wider/thicker seat for all day comfort. and possibly a bit bigger rear taillight for better visibility to cars behind you. experience: 2013 Honda CRF250L owned since new, 80,000 km ridden 70% dirt and mountain roads, street, trail, single track, enduro, mini adventure riding, moto camping, multi day multi week multi country rides
@marpheus1
@marpheus1 Месяц назад
Not sure if the shock can handle it, but a tandem seat would be nice (it could be sold as an option or an add-on). Another option would be a seat+rack option or a rack add-on). Also, for adjustability, you could add 2-4 extra mounting holes to all 4 mounting points of the seat (maybe with silicon plugs to use in the holes not in use)

As you move the subframe lower down the frame, you’ll increase the reach to the bars. They just need to offer subframes with different bends for different sized riders

The seat bracket can let you do so many custom options. A lower seat and some further reaching back motorcycle handlebars. Give a bit more of a bobber seating style. Probably want some sort of fender flares, also those wheels look a bit small compared to the bike. Overall this bike is so cool! Great videos :)

I absolutely love the minimal look and design of this motorcycle. But being heavier tall guy I'd prefer more vertical heavier rear support for seat. Seat could be lower and use blocks to raise seat or tall foam seat. maybe make it even longer wheelbase. OH and if at all possible solid mag wheels, no spokes. Probably not possible. Would radically change the looks, which is criminal. But I'm all about practical over looks. Your an amazing engineer!

Just manufacture different subframes with different seat heights and size them like one would with a bicycle purchase. The mounting points for the subframe would remain the same and you won’t sacrifice suspension travel or the advantage of larger diameter wheels. Cheap easy fix
@GingerPiston

Was going to say exactly the same thing, as it seems like the simplest and easiest option for shorter riders. There’s plenty of negative space below the current seat, so can’t see a reason not to go down the route.

@GingerPiston

@@ladiandmargaret well some do sell with thinner seats, but most don’t simply because the packaging doesn’t allow for it as there simply isn’t room for a lower position. Also most bikes aren’t built so that even a 6’2" person would struggle to flatfoot it like yours. You have acres of empty space underneath your seat frame, so you could make a lower seat frame as a cost option. Weird you can’t see that honestly. If these ever take off in significant volume, guarantee an aftermarket manufacturer would be churning out lower seat frames.
@nhodorek

my thoughts exactly. just have a Small Medium and Large subframe option. keeps the seat in the same forward to back position, just adjusts the up and down by about an inch each id imagine. 34, 35, and 36 inches would be about right. use the same four mounting all for all three subframes

You should move the controller towards the steering assembly. I would go as close as you can. Otherwise the wheel will kick rocks at it and damage those beautiful black fins. If you have it near the steering assembly, and still on the bottom of the battery housing, you'll still get a pretty direct air flow for cooling but the wheel guard will protect it from any rocks the wheel kicks up.

The frame for the seat looks simple enough, that it might have a "slide-able" extensions, to move the seat a little further, which can be adjusted on the go, depending on who's driving or what terrain they drive in.

Then could be easily lifted up and back for maintenance . Pivoting on spring loaded hinges...That's HAVOC!!!! Also couldn't you install solar strip on top of battery housing that charges a decent size capacitor , that in return keeps battery pack charged longer if ran in a series....Solar,Cap,Batt,Motor. Proper environmental conditions may be self charged. Game changer. I have designed. Contact me if interested.

Why is the seat height taller than EVERY large Adventure Touring motorcycle, including BMW R1250GS Adventure, KTM 1290 SAR, Triumph Tiger Rally, and Ducati Multistrada V4S? That's an insane decision. Why not build the seat mounts into conduit tubing, with lock-off for a huge infinitely variable range of adjustment, providing a unique selling point over an actual motorcycle? If you don't recognize (as per all the similar comments) that it is a problem, then IMHO you're in the Sales Prevention business.

@@ladiandmargaret The standard seat height of an R1300GS AHC is 820 mm. 130 mm lower, on the big 1300. It is a cool design, and I applaud what you are doing, I'm a big EV fan (Rivian R1T, Tesla M3P). But from a business sense perspective, I suggest you rethink the height, as it seriously alienates/precludes anybody less than 6ft tall from riding it. In other words, the R1300GS isn't the biggest-selling large-capacity motorcycle in the world for nothing.

Just a thought: Where the rear tire support attaches to the center of the bike; At that point you could attach the rear/bottom seat attachment point, which would provide a stronger seat support and less stress on the battery bank housing. Again just a thought as esthetically it may not be as pleasing to the eye as your current design. Still, it would strengthen your design.

Does the onboard charger have the smarts to connect to AC EV chargers (reading max current) (multi voltage 120, 208, 240)? What is the suspension travel amount for the rear tire? At what speed is the stated range of 75 miles taken? What about at 65 mph? Loving the project 👍

The storm you were facing at 10:06 had a wall cloud from a super cell storm called the Mesocyclone. A low hanging cloud in the storm that can cause rotation and tornadoes. Cold, dry air colliding with warm moist air creates instability causing wall clouds. In mountainous locations these results are less likely. With no mountains, in the plains the chances are higher for more wall clouds, severe storms. Gorgeous storms.

Great product. Seriously. Some small ideas for you. For seat adjustability: It seems that the seat is connected to the chassis by four bolt points. Couldn't you create some threaded holes at lower heights? If there is a structural limit for the attachment points, then an optional seat frame which slopes to a lower point. Since this is a bike for the modern age and beyond, it should have built in discreet cameras. Full 360 degrees and maybe even more, like helmet/rider POV. This will enhance insurance liability as well as theft control, so build in streaming to a cloud server or a social media platform. This and a LoJack will discourage theft. You're awesome, keep up the great work!

I‘d be interested in such a bike, but for that I would need it to be accepted to run officially on streets in G, CH or F. I bet it would require stronger breaks. And, lower seating position … this is even higher than my BMW GS … for no obvious reason. So make available two versions: one for 170cm (you do want to tap the women market as well!!) and one for 185cm. Keep going!

I don't get why you would change the tires and rear shock. You have a completely open downtube. Either put multiple mount points along the downtube so the seat can be mounted higher/lower or make the yellow seat subframe a hinged parallelogram that can be bolted at any angle.

I have built a few bikes ( well conversations really lol ) and bought a frey ex pro too , I love elevtric power ever since i converted my rc planes to brushless motors from ice. Im wanting to fet back into motorcycles now and seriously thinking electric is the way to go.. Built in charger is game changer imho, ebikes negate the need for range anxiety because we can pedal but motorcycles the anxiety is real.😂 How much is this going to cost to uk do you think? Obviously road legal is going to be an issue but imho that sort of worry is holding back progress so im willing to take a chance.😊

Details of how that was done would help. Also, in another comment you mentioned the chain has a guard but I cannot see one in the video. The chain is quite exposed. Not a deal breaker but could be for some people. I have to comment on the brakes. For such a light bike, the brakes don't look that impressive. At 70 mph and minimal protection, I want better brakes. This and suspension is where priority for improvement should go imo.

@@ladiandmargaret not the sprocket. The chain. But as I said not critical, especially for experienced riders. For inexperienced riders there are some risks to an exposed chain they should be aware of. That why manufacturers include a chain guard as oem. I'm more interested in details of how UK customers have made this road legal. Also a full brake test for me would add value as the one filmed makes the brakes look weak. ABS is not the be all and end all as this involves cost, weight and complexity. But I need strong brakes, especially if using this on road at max speeds.

Hi there, really nice content and great engineering! You thougt about building a street legal stremliner? Seems like noone dares to approache the concept of an "Streamlining" bike (which factualy has an amzing potencial). A disguised bike has so many benefits, comparing to an naked one: High end efficiency and therefore rediculous high ranges, with comparatively small batteries, much less wear, on almost every component of the bike and so on. I have dreamed for years, about building a bike, which radical streamlined design, allows it, to glide trhough the wind, like a bullet, but unfortunatly i dont have the specific knowlidge, or the resorces for such an project. Imagine how benificial such a bike could be vor so many people! I have so many ideas, but like i saied, i dont have the ressources and the advanced knowlidge, but if you should concider ralizing such an project, i would love to present u my ideas, if u would be interested. I would buy such an bike immediately!!!

Being customers will be charging from random locations, you may want to add a thermal/temperature sensor to the plug end in case of pulling more power than the socket could handle and automatically regulate amount of power being pulled from the wall socket to prevent fire or damage.

Which brakes are installed? Somehow i feel the braking power is not good enough for the weight. Go and try out motorbike brakes if you have not already. To convince better i think a gps top speed would be more accurate than reading from nucular as you can set it up however you wish. I love the extended seat, it needed to be done. I have built an super ebike style stealth bomber with 4,3kWh battery and ofc now a days it is running nucular 24F. I have magura mt7 pro and maguras floating disks mdr-p and the braking power is not good enough to be safe. Atleast on the front you need something big and thicc disk, and a system with DOT fluids. I am about to make a new build soon. Is there a way to get a frame only? Does the frame work with bike front fork suspension or motorbike suspension?
@ladiandmargaret

You are using bicycle brakes, that’s why you don’t have enough brake power. We only use motorcycle brakes and suspension. I’ve ridden motorcycles in the past. I had ninja 636 and gsxr 750. I’m convinced the gps can’t be as accurate as rpm reading.
