We were staying in Red River, New Mexico and made the easy drive to Antonito to catch the train. This is the longest and highest scenic narrow gauge railroad in America. It was a 63 mile train ride from Antonito, Colorado to Chama, New Mexico. The first half of the trip was with an oil burning engine and the second half was with a coal burner.The train crosses the New Mexico/Colorado border 11 times. It starts out in the lowlands and goes up to 10,022 feet at the Cumbres Summit Peak. Stopped for lunch in Osier in the mountains. We rode back to our car at Antonito on a nice tour bus.
