Riding The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad in 2012 

In 2012, videographers Kurt Jensen and Tom Dunn took a ride aboard Iowa Pacific's Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, which was based in Alamosa, Colorado. At the time, the railroad was operating former Lake Superior & Ishpeming 2-8-0 #18, which more recently had gained fame pulling trains on the Grand Canyon Railway.
#18 had her hands full, pulling trains over the grades of LaVeta Pass. This footage was filmed aboard the former Southern Railway open-air observation car Lookout Mountain, which was famous for bringing up the markers on Southern Railway steam excursions through the seventies and early eighties and today is owned by the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern.
