In this video I talk about the 300 WBY MAG. I compare it the 300 Holland and Holland (300 H&H), and also the 300 Winchester Magnum. I also bring on Reloading Weatherby to give his thoughts on this cartridge since he has the experience with it.

I like to see the cooperation of You Tubers. One thing that could be mentioned is the performance and record of cartridges in the hunting fields and the famous hunters that used them. Elgin Gates and C.J. McElroy of Safari International fame used the 300 Weatherby exclusively to hunt big game world wide. When I was a kid back in the early 1970s. The 300 Weatherby and Mark V was the ultimate hunting rifle.

This is my go to Big Game Round. I really like the 175 Federal Terminal Ascent and 180 Nosler Partition. Here is a testimony for the 300 Wby Mag. This year I shot an Oryx with a 175 Federal Terminal Ascent. He was about 175 yards. I hit him in the left front shoulder the bullet exited thru the other shoulder and he went down. Never took a step. It impressed the guide so much, he wanted to buy one. Told me he could count on one hand the number of Oryx he has seen shot that dropped immediately and almost no pass thru’s when hit in the shoulder standing. Broadside.

I have had one for over 30 years. I originally bought it for long distance shooting. I reloaded everything. I got a custom 300 weatherby Mark 5 with a 30inch barrel. I have taken every kind of animal in the US with it.

It’s a awesome caliber! Having been hunting for 60 years as well as reloading and collecting I have found that it’s not needed in most cases that being said with it you will never be lacking for knock down power! I bought my dad a 30-378 in the accumark when they first came out and a 300 Weatherby in the accumark for myself and having owned about 20 Weatherby Mark 5 before that I knew it was going to kick but in the accumark with the break it was a dream rifle! But being a rifle guy I am always looking for something new and better and regret getting rid of that gun! I have owned hundreds of rifles since but I can say it’s one of the best in the accumark!

Nosler Custom makes what I would consider hand loads practically. I've had very good success with Nosler Custom in 300Wby, 338-378Wby, 308Win and 30-06. When I was in my 20s back in the late 90s and early 2000s, the Mark 5 Accumark was "the" rifle where I lived. I handled one and immediately saw why. I've owned five of them and every one shot sub-MOA including one rifle I bought at a pawn shop for about half of retail. I didn't know if it would shoot or blow-up in my face. LOL. The greatest firearms regret I have is selling the Mark 5 Accumark in 30-06. It was almost a perfect rifle.

I wasn’t aware that Norma and Nosler made good ammo for it. Ya learn something every day. The Mark 5 and the 300 WBY Mag are just classic and quality!
@tacticalmattfoley

@@hopefulballistics I ordered direct from Nosler. At the time, you put in what rifle you owned and they sent the ammo direct in a very nice open-top cartridge box with my name and the load data on the box. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't much difference in cost than the factory Weatherby ammo at that time. It's become so popular that Nosler only does limited runs in a narrow window. At one time, I was buying Nosler Custom blems for far less than the Weatherby factory ammo.

To each his own. I bought my mark V .300 new in 98' it wont group nosler reloads for anything. Made them under, books specs, and hot.

I have one in a Win Model 70 SS. I never ceases to amaze me. I wanted something a little different than the 300 Win Mag. With R-25 and a 190gr Hornady Interlock BT it’s an elk killing machine ❤

I’ve been hunting Whitetail Deer for over 25 years with my .300 Weatherby. There are many fine capable calibers out there but I’ll never change from my Weatherby. I have taken deer out to 400 yards with it never doubting my shot placement and it’s ability to drop them in their tracks. The only negative characteristic is if you fail to get a good proper seating of the stock butt against the shoulder, it will result in a nasty case of “scope eye”.

Thank you for an informative discussion on the 300 Weatherby. And you couldn't have picked a better guest. I think this is a great cartridge and I believe it's ideal for putting longer bullets in and choke up a little bit on that lengthy free bore to help with longer shots. I hunt at ethical distances and I speak of long range target shooting.

@@ronlowney4700 No need. The bull elk he’s killed at 500 yards died just as dead as if they were killed with a 200 grain Partition or Accubond.

I got mine by accident! I needed a scoped high powered rifle, and I spotted one in a pawn shop. When I asked the caliber I was told "300 Magnum". Thinking I was getting a .300 win mag, I traded my Ruger Vaquero for it. Not until I got it home did I realize something was wrong. It was NOT a .300 win mag!

Weatherby rifles are quality. The Remington 700 footprint is tried and true. 300 Weatherby is a great big game hunting cartridge. Only downside is ammo cost and availability. The 307 seems like a winner to me.
@jefferywilliams7687
@jefferywilliams7687 11 месяцев назад
I own both. 300 Wby is far superior. Especially, when you load bullet weights above 180. I have killed Elk, Oryx, and deer. I just shot an Oryx on White Sands with a 175 Federal Terminal Ascent. I hit him right in the front shoulder blade. The bullet broke both shoulders and exited. Oryx hit the ground. I shot them at about 3,275 from a 24” barrel. No problem getting them to 3,300. However, given the BC, toughness of this bullet, no need. Groups are sun 1/4 MOA. I like keeping the pressures down. For hunting I load new brass, RL 26, Fed 215M, and either175 Federal Terminal Ascent or 180 Nosler Partition. I have shot a Whitetail with a 180 SST. It is a bit much for them; unless you big holes.
