Jimmy is an amazingly genuine and kind guy. I took my son to see him, and when sitting for dinner I saw him sitting on the other side of the club with another musician before playing. I asked the waiter if I could buy him dinner, and the waiter came back and said he already ate, but would like to come thank me. He came over to a complete stranger, said hello and thank you, met my son (who had just started playing guitar), and then friggin STAYED THERE TO CHAT. Self-effacing and modest, and down to earth. What a class act.

I've been playing guitar since the mid 80s and kind of pride myself on being aware of even the most eclectic of players in all styles. I am almost ashamed that I hadn't been aware of Jimmy until just a couple of weeks ago when Emil Werstler said he was a big fan. Suffice it to say that my world has now been changed. I think it's the first time I've ever said that about a player before ... well, maybe Wes Montgomery when I first listened to him as teenager after Tommy Iommi, in a guitar magazine, said he was an influence.

I'm not surprised Jimmy was happy with his Japanese Tele purchased from Ebay after replacing the guts of it. Apart from the electronics, Fender Japan guitars are easily on par with Fender US, but priced more like Fender Mexico. FYI, unless a Japanese Fender has TX in its model number (eg ST62-70TX), it's probably a basswood body. Those with TX in the model number feature Texas Special pups & alder bodies. Some models also have ash bodies. Fender Japan are awesome!!

"not an expensive guitar at all" I had to giggle at that a bit. I mean, yeah it's a reasonably priced guitar(especially if you're a rock star) but for someone like me, an American standard strat is definitely an investment.
@someweirdguy101
@someweirdguy101 8 лет назад
I agree about it being an investment for me too. An Am. Std. Strat is still less than half the cost of a Les Paul Standard or a PRS Custom 24, so I can see where he's coming from.
@garyguitar
@garyguitar 7 лет назад
Still, for a musician of his caliber this is a very inexpensive instrument. Awesome player, very humble guy. Much respect for him in every way. Of course we've seen him using PRS's too. A key to his instruments is the fact that he has a super technician working for him installing high end parts like Lollar pickups, custom fret work etc.

I think this is the best rig rundown ever. Usually it's just guitarists saying something like " yeah, this is a strat. This one is a tele. There is a Les Paul over there..." But you can see Jimmy is really into his guitars, even if doesn't remember what the second position in his Tele does.

I have a 2013 American standard Stratocaster. I removed the black trem springs because they didn't allow me to bring the bridge, back, flat against the body. I do not use the trem and I always bring it against the body. the flatter fingerboard sounds nice. the American standard is 9.5. the American deluxe is compound radius, 9.5 to 16 I think and that would be nice. I still get some fretting out on bends if I keep the action very low.

@@joeyatthebeach yes and thats not so easy to pull off UNLESS the sound engineer has got his shit together, because he has to give the group the vibes & grooves as if theres actually full sonic amplifications feel and all Without all the residual loose SPL flowing all over the place and easily causings "some" wild frequency feedbacks. This sitation is abdolutely idea for great vocalist especially utiizing high quality "in ear" monitoring!(@@)

Another idea is to have one volume pot on the guitar, then a blender pot instead of a 3-way pickup selector switch. This way, you can set the blend of the bridge and neck pickups with the blender pot, then control the guitar's volume with the volume pot. I saw that on Rick Vito's signature Reverend guitar.

Exactly! (Just proves without a doubt as what i've said to folks..most great guitarist that have some amazing chops & great deal of time getting fully educated in complete music spheres & tablatures..usually start in showing folks (meaning all us lesser human musicians) just how they are more superior to us street Cats (like Jimmy,too) and you can just feel the envy & jealousy and disdaine for folks like Jimmy & the rest of us Souther drawl Cats that can play...simply because they think we should be as sophisticated as them because their parents or family was wealthy and all they had to do is stay up all night & day practicing & recording interviews premium home studios and do have have to work a normal job and can actually get to sleep in and simply get up when they want and simply "rinse & repeat" oh yes ive been around alot of these type musicians from around the world.
