Still working on upgrades to get it where WE want it to be. In this episode Carla helps to install the #Torklift upper StableLoads and we assemble the #TorkliftFastguns so that we can haul the camper. Then, we take it to the #CATscales to weigh the Godzilla with the Lance 1172 on it. You will be surprised! Or, maybe you won't but either way stick around to see what our new rig weighs together with the Ford Godzilla and the Lance 1172.
As always, we hope you find the video useful and informative!
Thanks for watching!

Stable loads offer marginal improvement. The lowers work the best as the help spring is larger(thicker). Still a lot of money for marginal improvement.

I have a 2022 F350 4x4 7.3 gasser and it’s a beast. Not very good on gas mileage. But I didn’t give $12,000 more for a diesel .

Hey guys, I know this video is a year old but I will share what I did on my 2017 F350 with the 6.2 gasser to carry out Northern Lite 8.11. I did the upper Stableloads as you did. I also put on the Air Lift 5000 Ultimate airbags with the onboard compressor and WirelessAir remote. When loading the camper I set the airbags to where the overload springs just engage the upper stableloads. That typically is about 25-30 lbs of air pressure. That combination works great but the airbags are definitely more complicated. When I get my new truck I may just do the upper Stableloads and Timbrens instead of air bags.

Thanks for the video. I watched it for the second time today. I installed the uppers today on my 2021 F350 dually 7.3. I didn’t have a pickle fork and a long screwdriver wasn’t working. I then used a long pair of needle nose pliers like your pickle fork. It was a piece of cake. Drove a little harder; but not that bad. Waiting to try it with my northern lite 10.2.

Great video, nice rig all around! I'd skip the lower stable loads, tried the lowers on a similar set up with airbags and upper stable loads, didn't really need them. I found the sweet spot for airbag PSI for my set up and had a leveled rig going down the road, no squat at all. Recommend the airbags first and then afterwards if you really feel like you need the lowers then fire away! :)

Your videos are great. Thanks so much. My wife and I really like the 1172 and I was hoping it’d come in under the 7.3’s GVWR. A full 42 gal fresh water tank and 17.5 more gallons of gas is ~ 458 lbs. LiFePO4 batteries might save 50 lbs if you have deep cycle AGM.

I agree on the weight comment. I have looked into changing our batteries to lithium and that would save us 85 pounds which is a good bit. Maybe we’ll do that sometime. Thanks for watching.

We have a 2021 diesel version of your truck with a Host Crusade camper aboard. I enstalled the overload blocks as well as a set of air bags w/compressor. Very satisfied so far. We are a little over the GVW but the truck handles very well. We are considering putting on a heavier sway bar also. I’m picky like you Todd. It seems to pay off in the long run. God Bless

There is no doubt that is one heavy camper although that was not a surprise. Certainly the lower stableloads or equivalent will help both with supporting the weight better as well as the side to side stability. As long as your main pack overload spring has the hole in each end the stableloads are not that bad to install but will have to unload the camper and jack up the truck and use jack stands on the frame to allow the axle to droop so the full pack of stableload wedges can be installed, or at least that is what we found when I helped my brother install them on an older ford dually. I too have mixed feelings over the airbags, while the idea seems good it ends up causing more instability side to side we found with the unit and this was with prior adding two more leafs in the pack on both sides just to carry the camper as it was just awful before the leafs were added when he first picked up the camper from the factory. The downside is that with the added leafs the truck does not ride good when empty but since it lives under the camper that isn't much of a concern. It happens to weigh in about what yours does across the scale since his truck has the 6.0 diesel and is a steel body truck.
@RunawayRoses
@RunawayRoses Год назад
Hi Charles, I have an idea that I’m working on to control the lower springs so we’ll see how that goes. I would still like to get some airbags just because their nice to have if I need them. But I agree they don’t really help with the sway. Thanks for watching!
@charlesb4267
@charlesb4267 Год назад
@@RunawayRoses I'll be interested to see what you experiment with and how it performs. I have seen an outcome from another youtube channel where they took a Ram one ton dually they initially put their heavy camper on and had done no other spring modifications and it was obvious that was not going to cut it as it sagged horribly. So they installed a set of Timbrens and thought they solved their weight carrying capacity issues and stability, after all it "seemed" good to them. But given some use and the camper setup has more weight on one side then the other which was not making matters any better, both their Timbrens and certainly the one side it was leaning horribly towards as they had smashed down so bad they were failing. They took the truck to a shop to evaluate the situation and as no surprise they were recommended they should buy a set of spring packs that were rated higher as their springs were suffering from being overloaded as well as never having been up to the task to begin with. However, they did not want to spend the money on new springs so they installed another set of Timbrens to get them by. Far too much of the total weight is riding on their Timbrens and this is the same error made by some who assume installing air bags over the axle and pumping them way up will cure the weight carry situation. The problem is two fold, the spring packs that are there are now not doing as much of the work as they were intended to do as the air bags or Timbrens are lifting the truck up and instead too much of the total weight is being transferred to the frame right above the axle at that single point and this was never the design of the frame from the manufacturer as it was meant to have the load spread out at the front and rear eyes of the leaf springs to frame brackets. Sorry for the long explanation but the gist is that the springs should be carrying the bulk of the weight and air bags or Timbrens if used should be a smaller percentage of the enhancement to the over all weight carrying ability of the truck.

I run the uppers and lowers together, and the lowers are actually adjusted with a ratchet to disengage when running empty.
@charlesb4267
@charlesb4267 Год назад
@@boostedlss6450 On my brothers truck he hasn't had a reason to disengage the lowers and with the spring pack he had to modify as per adding leafs, it probably would not make much difference to the empty truck ride but I can see it helping some with a factory spring pack.

I have to agree with MJ Mohn..... Timbrens are a lifesaver for me....I had a 1995 Dodge 2500. I added a leaf, bottom stableloads, Helwig sway bar, and had airbags prior. In July found my Unicorn...1998 Dodge 2500 Extra cab Long bed 5 speed. I added just the Timbrens with a stock sway bar and I'm so far ahead on stability. I want to thank you for the recommendation of the Timbrens. As far as the airbags, I feel too much sway at any pressure. One other change I did was remove 5lbs from my front tire pressure, and gained some added stability. I feel I adde more tire on the road. Another great video... keep them up!!

In all reality this truck camper is too heavy for most class 3 trucks. Will it do it yes. Is it safe, not always. This particular camper is more in the territory of chassis cab trucks. 16,000 GVWR territory. For example, my 2022 F450 Limited only has a payload of 4850 pounds because of how the truck is configured with all the bells and whistles. This camper is too heavy for my application. I will purchase a truck camper but I will opt for a smaller one so that I do not have to do all these aftermarket mods to to make the truck ride level and stable. Currently I am pulling Grand Design Solitude fifth wheel with a pin weight of 3,600 pounds. The camper and truck ride perfectly level and barely touches the front and rear overload pads. That would be the weight I am shooting for when making my decision. what I do love about the F450 is the commercial tires, wide track front end. Much, larger brakes and larger half shafts in the axle. The wide track front end makes the truck feel much more stable with my camper than my 2020 F350. Also, the turning radius, is a game changer!
