This presentation features trams and trolleybuses in Riga, Latvia. Riga is one of the few remaining places where trolley poles are still used on regular service trams. Riga is a lovely city with an interesting tram system and also an extensive trolleybus network.

I was in Riga in total two times, when i was 4 years old and 7 or 8 years. And i still remember that one time when we ride old tram over train tracks and then back. That was the one and only time i ride tram in Riga. Also i remember that winding interchange with trams (5:20).I dont remember trolleybuses that well. Kinda sad that you didnt have any videos of škoda's , but pictures are good none the less. At least i can still enjoy riding skodas in VIlnius. where live. Also, videos of those trains, when it was taken? Does Riga still uses old electric trains or they got new ones now?

Hi Lukas LT, Thanks for watching and for your comment. I don't think there were any Skodas still running during my 2017 visit, but I think there still were some in 2006. Have a look at 43:35 in the presentation. As for the trains, I didn't concentrate on the trains during my most recent visit, so don't know what is currently running, but did ride one in 2006 to Jurmala Beach. I haven't been to Vilnius yet. @@tassiebaz aqui no Brasil, no caso São Paulo, em 1968 acabaram com todos os bondes da cidade e as demais cidades do país seguiram o péssimo exemplo. Ainda postaram uma frase: "rendo-me ao progresso"

Olá André, Infelizmente, não foi só no Brasil que isso aconteceu. Os Estados Unidos também fizeram a mesma coisa terrível nas décadas de 1950 e 1960. Muitas cidades nos EUA agora reiniciam os sistemas de metrô (bonde) e metrôs para combater o tráfego terrível que têm. Fique bem. Atenciosamente, tassiebaz. Hi Andre, Unfortunately, it wasn’t only in Brazil that this happened. The United States also did the same terrible thing in the 1950s and 1960s. Many cities in the USA have now restarted tram (light rail) systems and metros to combat the terrible traffic they have. Stay well. Regards, tassiebaz.

Riga looks to be a beautiful city, but did I see signs of a city that has brutal winters? The maintenance of the vehicles is top notch, as is the overhead! But, I was curious as to the paving stones usage on the streetcar lines. It must be a law or "custom". I did not see 1' of track that was not paving stone enclosed. Strange so modern a system would still use such paving method. Great video.

Hi Reg, Riga is a beautiful place. Sort of like an uncrowded Prague. Clean and safe. When you get a bit farther out of town, there are some Soviet-style apartment buildings, but in the inner city there are some grand old residences. Everything seems to work. I noticed the paving stones also, as they are not commonplace nowadays. Don't know if it is a heritage thing or perhaps another reason, maybe less road maintenance. Glad you enjoyed it.
