I could remember all of the words. Another wonderful voice of our childhood has departed. Thank you, Bernard for the smiles and occasional tear (the Railway Children).
This song will live on in my house! it was one of my grandads favourites he made us all smile choosing this as we left the church the day of his funeral. RIP Bernard Ribbins
Yes I remember this song , digging a hole, the Railway children and voice over for one of the wombles R.I.P. Bernard Cribbins , Brilliant talented chap
My brother and I burst into a rousing rendition of this whilst carrying the sofa out of my lounge. The two twenty-something carpet fitters were entirely perplexed.
@@johnbull9195 Great, having a sense of humour you can never go wrong, it gives you happiness in the good times and something worth sharing and protects you when things aren't so good.
@@jeffrey44 That would be easy to determine since there is a list in Wikipedia of those who did. See “List of people who have declined a British honour”.
RIP Bernard. I was lucky enough to meet Bernard a few years ago, and he was great. so friendly, and had me in fits of laughter! We'll miss you Bernard, but we will remember the good times.
Met him back in the 70's when he was compere/MC of a big folk music event in Oldham. Asked to fill in at the last moment we were low on the bill but he was a complete gentleman and total professional, treating us with great kindness and as equals. I'll always remember him fondly.
I use to rush home from school in the early 1970's to watch the Womble's on Children's BBC1 just to hear Bernard doing the voices . Always put a smile on my face . RIP Bernard
There are some people that are just part of our lives and Bernard was one of them. A truly legendary man who has been in so many programmes, films, comedy shows, dramas, and played so many memorable characters. He will be truly missed. 'Right said Fred' has also been a signature tune as well since we were small. We've lost a great man today. God bless Bernard. RIP mate.
for as long as I can remember, 'right said fred' has been a household expression. At least with me and those around me. Today I discovered the famous saying's origins. Bloody brilliant.
RIP Bernard Cribbins you played some of the greatest actors on TV with my personal favourite being Donna's grandfather. You will be remembered as long as Doctor Who will be which is forever. Thank you for your work.
Bernard Cribbins - a wonderful old-school entertainer - writer, singer and actor. I came here as soon as I heard the news to listen to the song again. Always remember "you never get nowhere if you're too 'asty".
why Bernard wasn't knighted is a complete mystery to me he is in the hearts of everyone.i remember him from my childhood and I'm 68 now he was a fantastic versatile guy 🙏 RIP
Aw. My mum who I lost young used to sing the line 'Right said Fred both of us together' I say it sometimes and just actually checked where it came from for the first time. Cheers Mum x
Sad to hear of his passing. Grew up watching him on the telly but I always remember him for this ditty. Think it might've inspired the Right Sad Fred guys for their name.
Sad day. The curtain closes on a wonderful 70 year + carer . He will be remembered for many things but for me it was his wonderful narration of a passion for angling. Rip bernard. 😢
The sound of my childhood. I loved it in the sixties, I love it now. Right said Fred is timeless, it will always be a great piece of music, because it will always bring a smile to your face, like the Ying Tong Song, another classic from my childhood. The world has lost a great man.
Just had to listen to this today. A song of my childhood that I loved and my introduction to the late great Bernard Cribbins. Thanks for all the laughter.
I've known, Bernard Cribbins, since Dr. WHO 2130 AD, I'M 60 The Wombles, Jackanory his Right said Fred, single in the 60s a absolute legend, movie star in the Carry on films in the 60s and 70s, especially when I came home from school back in the 70s and watched the Wombles before the news came on R.I.P Great Uncle Bulgaria. We'll miss you Bernard ✝️✝️✝️✝️
I remember this song as a kid, Bernard was a personality of my childhood and I always get a nice little warm buzz hearing his voice. RIP Bernard Cribbins x
This song and “The hole in the ground” are guaranteed to put a smile on your face as did the wonderful Bernard Cribbins himself with his acting and narration. His voice was everywhere in my childhood, even as BT’s Buzby the bird! I’ll never forget all the great TV and film work and certainly not his catchy songs. It’s no exaggeration to call him a great British national treasure. Sadly gone but never forgotten. Thank you Bernard for so many lovely memories. RIP.
I absolutely LOVE this song!!! It is SOO 1962...it SCREAMS the early, pre-Beatles 60s in Britain...the 60s when Cliff Richard & The Shadows were Britain's biggest pop stars...the 60s before they began to swing...the 60s when 'Hancock' and 'Supercar' were on telly. I was only about 2 years old when this song came out, and yet for me it evokes strong memories of early childhood. Bernard Cribbins RULES!! Oh, and my 8 year old daughter loves it too! 6 cups of tea in just over 2 minutes...classic!
I remember sitting with my Grandad listening to this on the radio 'Junior Choice' with Ed Stewart in the late 60's early 70's. I knew all the words then and still do now. Happy times....Thanks for the memories Mr Cribbins.
Rest in peace, a wonderful actor. He actually served in the parachute regiment in Palestine for National service. A National treasure and one of the true icons of television. Rest in peace Bernard.
RIP Bernard sad day and always loved this on Junior Choice Hope they can now bestow a posthumous knighthood on him Thank you for all the laughs Bernard we will miss you,
my old fella used to sing this and "Hole in the ground" to me and my twin when were young kids. makes me smile when i hear it. i sing it to my baby now
R.I.P Bernard Cribbens multi - talented and one of the last greatest performers that was still standing. A true gentleman who enjoyed a fabulous career.
Brings back memories hearing this on the wireless ( Radio ) love it, keep knocking off for a cup of tea 😂 and before you know it's time to go home. I wish there was more of this kind of thing around instead of silly love songs all the time. Bernard Cribbins was perfect for this. RIP Bernard Cribbins.
“Right said Fred, climbing up a ladder…” One of my earliest memories is my mum and I singing this song when I was about 5 or 6. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. We laughed and laughed together over the slapstick lyrics. Wow, what a golden memory! Brings a tear to my eye. Miss you Mum. Thanks.
One of the many wonders of the 50th anniversary celebration of Doctor Who in London was seeing Cribbins perform this as I was walking past the stage. Years later I met Bernard at a different London con and I must say, he was an absolute gentleman. BERNARD CRIBBINS 1928 - 2022 Gone, but never to be forgotten.
RIP Mr. Cribbins. You will be dearly missed. I loved this song and every time i saw you on Doctor Who. You were hilarious on the Buzzcocks. You had a wonderful life, and wish you and your family all the best.
RIP Bernard Cribbins who has died today at the age of 93. He will be remembered for his funny songs, narrating the wombles, Jackanory, Old Jack's Boat, Doctor Who and much much more. Forever a British Legend may he rest in peace.
Not only clever and funny, but the tune is very catchy. English humour from a bygone era a. Many chuckles and all with no swearing, a very rare ability for comedians these days.
