Yes. I was about to post a comment how I really only go to this channel to get game reviews. Rating the game based on the investment value is what we need to hear, as graded point systems don't really seem to translate well with a vast majority of the gaming population. And his execution.. You know it's good stuff when the actual game has no intrest to me, I just want to hear him break it down👌
Roger McKay Thumb the video down if you don't like his reviewing process or the reason behind his rating, but imo you shouldn't dislike the video because you find the game overpriced.
many folks don't understand the rating scale at all. If everyone believed the way some folks did only Monopoly would be worth any money because it can be played for 8 million hours. It is easily and sadly the most embarrassing thing about gaming right now. Time is only one of the qualitative elements of a title.
ACG I've noticed you take many elements into consideration in your reviews in quite a timely manner. I've only recently stumbled upon your channel, but your reviews have what channels like gamespot and ign lack; they are deliberate and the ratings don't sway to gratify popular opinion. Keep on doing you, man.
KAZER Angry Joe has sucked for years. I remember when you was releasing a single review every couple of months and most of the time he would bitch just to bitch, trying to capitalize on meme culture. It failed miserably in my opinion. ACG, on the other hand, kicks ass. I cannot remember a time when an in depth, lengthy review hasn't gone up as soon as a game's embargo lifts. The amount of content this channel pushes out just goes to show how lazy Joe is.
apples to oranges my friend, ACG's review is clearly divided, segmented and deliberate. Angry Joe focus (mostly) on the fun factor and personal feel, his reviews are generally more personal. if you noticed he does not at all shy away from judging the game in comparison to hype. again, ACG is professionally structured, AJ is personal. i love their diversity
Great work as always. I love the little comments like the Tequila works or Charlie Sheen one. It must be hard to keep writing comedy gold, even though many people miss your funny comments, and the awesomeness is multiplied by the sheer fact of how prolific you are. I mean you review over 10 games a month, but still keep the humor that make other reviewers hide in shame.
btw do you plan to review Tekken 7 when it comes out? It is on my most hyped list of 2017. Seeing how Nier, Persona, Nioh and Yakuza surpassed all my expectations, I hope Tekken does the same (and RDR2 later in this year).
Jesus, I knew this game looked good from the few screenshots and trailers I'd seen, but holy shit does it come into its own when you see extended gameplay footage. Definitely added to my wishlist (I've been buying waaay too many games lately).
Me too.. Just within this year I've gotten Gravity Rush 2, Resident Evil 7, Yakuza 0, Tales of Berseria, For Honor, Nioh, Nier Automata, Andromeda, Horizon, Persona 5, Bulletstorm Remaster, Yooka Laylee, Prey, Injustice 2, The Surge I also purchased a Switch and Zelda, Mario Kart 8, Disgaea 5 Complete, Fast RMX, Snake Pass, Shovel Knight and Fire Emblem Echoes for my 3DS This year is insanity.. Focusing right now on Fire Emblem Echoes but once this is finished Rime is probably my next target
As soon as I saw reviews were up for this game I had to check your channel for your review and sure enough you gave a completely fantastic, in-depth take on it. Picking this up for sure. Thanks Karak.
Great review. Though it needs to be said that, even though ACG says there is “no story”, the truth is, it’s one of those games that just seems obscure until you get to the end and then all is brilliantly laid out before you. It’s actually a very heartfelt story and every bit worth the effort to reach its conclusion.
I feel like $2.00 per hour is a fair exchange. a $60.00 game should give me 30 hours. This is just personal preference though and value is totally subjective. But using my formula this game should cost $12.00. But it's nearly three times that. So I will wait for a sale. Love your reviews!
You're not alone, but BOTW is certainly not the first game to employ that type of look, and considering how much the two games are different otherwise (RiME is much smaller in size, scope, and not least the budget and number of people that worked on it), I'd say the similarities are just coincidental.
I remember when I subscribed you had around 10k subs and your review for Rare Reply was arguably the best review for the game ever, Now u hit 300k + woooow I hope you hit 300 million subs because you are not biased and give games awesome reviews regardless of platform I respect you a lot please continue to be who you are and not follow the path of anyone else because you are unique and this type uniqueness separates you and it makes the awesome reviewer you are
IGN or Gamespot reviews will sway you in the wrong direction, THIS review nails it ,not based off of Karaks personal opinion, but how he reviews it based off of how he reviews it as its own entity. IGNs main gripe is how “other games do it better”. well, please define “it“. I really like how Karaks comparisons are lightly based and not compared to what makes a game unique. stellar job again ACG!
I am playing this game currently. I enjoy the music i love classical music anyway. Most players will not fully understand this game overall this game is a journey about grief and dealing with the grief process but you will not know this until the very end of the game after the credits, the ending is where you begin to understand the grief process a bit sad but enjoyable. I will re-play the game tonight.
With the whole RU-vid adocalypse. Thing going on I wouldn't mind you doing sponsored videos along with your Patreon. I love your videos. You have become the very first reviewer I watch for my game reviews. With all these triple A games coming out this year. Battlefront 2, WW2, Destiny 2, Assassins Creed: whatever edition. I'm gonna need you to start doing some accounting work and saving me money. ;D
Great review. I thought it looked good from the few gameplay trailers I've seen, but it sounds even better than I imagine. Much like ICO and Journey, it sounds like a game that actually lives up to its promise. Can't wait to play it.
It seems like forever since the last ACG video, especially after 3 reviews in a row. I was starting to have withdrawal symptons. Glad to see another review, would love to see another podcast soon, wink wink
I know the gremlins got you good a few days ago, but man I refresh my feed 20 times a day Hoping to see a podcast, dev interview, or a walking the walk. Your insight has definitely changed the way I approach and appreciate media. Thank you for your hard work Karak. The bearded shaman of gaming bringing you reviews at the speed of embargo!
hey just wanted to leave giant probs again today. its been a few years since i subscribed because I liked the reviews so much and you re still being incredibly consistent and thourough. indepth and always a reliable opinion. thanks a lot and keep it up buddy
The moment you said "Journey" and "The Witness" I was sold. I just hope the narrative also swings more into the direction of The Witness as it took itself way less serious and I think we need some lighter hearted puzzle/exploration/walking simulator games. And some more games with interesting 3D graphics and some style. Believe me, they age like a good wine.
great review as usual. (: Read an interview recently that one of the higher ups forbid the developers from playing The Witness until the home stretch, in December. Due to fear it'd influence or demotivate them too much. They also created deadlight, an interesting side-scrolling platform adventure zombie game with a decent amount of artistic flair, was one of the key sources of funding for this from what I heard. quite a decent title, that holds up pretty well years later.
Just discovered this channel - I'm a pretty casual gamer and after viewing the IGN review for this game, I was a little disheartened, as I was looking forward to playing this... but now I want to buy it! Many thanks, great review.
Hey Karak, I wanted to piont out that your channel and game reviews are way underrated. Your reviews are always funny and witty and overall entertaining to watch. Before I buy a new game, I always check out your channel first if theres any review yet. You should be at 3-4 million subscribers, imo! I'll spread the word. Cheers!
I'm picking this one up, because I find myself loving these games, but I'm going to wait for a sale as I think the price is steep for a small game. My only issue is that these games are too short. I wish we could have a world like this that is realy big and expansive.
Genuinely the only reviewer I watch now. Never let me down on a game purchase. Thank you! I remember when you first started this channel and decided to work so hard on it - hope it's paying you back!
and here i thought you wouldn't be able to get a review in for RIME cause of errors and whatever other problems you were supposedly having as of late with several upcoming game reviews. thanks for getting this one out there Karak.
yet you somehow pulled it off anyway. good on you Karak. sadly, this might be a pass for me (even though i loved Journey). i might give it another look at some point in the near future.
Comparing ACG to AJS is dumb. I like both channels but for different reasons: I base my purchases (IE my money) on ACG. i like AJS for laughs or a SECOND oponion (his channel seems different lately. it makes me sad) I am only one subscriber, but please dont go into movie, trailer, paid impressions reviews etc. A late congrats on 300k and keep up the fantastic work Karak
Thanx ACG. Some people aren't gonna like this game because it drops below 1,346 fps, you know this don't you ?! p.s. The sound of a Metal Ball rolling along a Stone Slab Groove always gets my attention.
+ACG Do you think this is the best year for video game music since the late 90s? Nier, RiME, Persona 5, ect., and we're not even halfway through the year. It's brought back memories of the glory days of VG music of the 90s.
*As far as the character **_dying_**:* I'm about an hour into the game, maybe 90 minutes [tops], and I was under the impression you were just *teleported* back by some magical force; _i.e. the cloaked figure, perhaps_? Because of the particle effects swirling around you when you start back over. Which I've been thinking was a clever attempt at sort of explaining the respawning (something you pretty much never get in other games). If that's the case, it's such a wonderful little addition to the magical atmosphere, and---at least for me---also adds to that feeling of being 'looked-after'. Does that make sense? ...orr am I just overthinking, loll?
Great review! At first you sounded like you where mad with Rime developers or the Rime creator, but in the end, it was very good information and opinion. Keep up the good work!
I definitely feel a Legend of Zelda Wind Waker/Firewatch/Journey vibe that the game has. I'm also getting a bit of a Last Guardian vibe as well, in terms of traversal, platforming and level design. The game seems like its very enjoyable. The visuals look pretty good and are vibrant. The puzzles are fun to solve. The music is beautiful. However, the one issue that I have with the game is that it clocks in at around 6 hours which is quiet short given its $30 price tag. Perhaps $20 or $25 would've been a more suitable price point for Rime. Other than that, I can see myself buying this game because its something that I would highly enjoy. Awesome review as always Karak!
I sort of get the feeling that this game would have still had more to offer if it weren't for the developer getting bashed on by some website because the people there thought hus game was stupid. I think thise comments kinda got to the poor guy. Hopefully he keeps his chin high with the release of this game and looks to make more beautiful mindbending games that he wants to make in the future.
I was looking forward to this on until they had some trouble, then I was just nervous it would get cancelled or suck, glad to see they managed to finish it and that it's good.
What I especially love about your reviews, Karak (apart from the phenomenal amount of research and the clever writing) is that I can enjoy your review without having to watch it. I'm one of those guys who REALLY avoid gameplay videos of any kind for a game I'm interested in, so I really appreciate that. You're the best and I'll keep spreading the word!
Awesome job for the review. $30 for a 6-hour puzzle game is worth it, but at the same time, it does sound like you sort of gave the Buy recommendation with a VERY slight asterisk, plus with my lack of timing being frugal overall, I'll probably wait until it does go down a bit when I can afford the time to put into a beautiful looking game.
This game looks like something I would enjoy, but I am so deep into Zelda still I am going to have to hold off for a bit. I wonder what the performance will be like on the Switch when it releases? Seems like a good Switch game.
Came here having finally had the chance to play it (thanks PSplus :D ) and having watched the GameSpot review by someone who seems like they've never played a puzzle platformer or indeed any game that doesn't hold your hand the entire way through. Your gripes, few though they were, were all fair, and things I had noticed but put to the back of my mind. Would have been interested to hear your take on the story and ending though (without the spoilers of course)
"The platforming controls take a while to get use to and you always feel like a bit like an interpreter, yelling at a electric car to turn left in some foreign language hoping it Google translates quickly enough before you smash into a divider. Running moving, leaping, lunging and carrying suspiciously radioactive looking items across the wasteland works fine which is a little bit surprising because the issues only rear their ugly head when you're hanging sky-scraper high of the side off a seagull shit covered ledge and the game decides that back is forward and left doesn't exist like it's in the midst of it's own digital stroke" DIED LOL Loved this review and so accurate. Thanks.
Loving your review ACG, this one convinced me to get this game for PC! You ever concidered doing any "retro" reviews? Well, mostly I just wanna see your review of Bloodborne. But i get it if you don't wanna go down that road. Keep up the good work!
best reviewer by far. does a far better job than anyone else in terms of range of genres and incredibly in depth in every video review i've seen. thank you
Just wanna thank you for your informative and excellent reviews. Anyone can tell that you know what you are talking about and critique and praise is doled out fairly and well motivated backed by a technical understanding that few reviewers possess while not forgetting to point out the fun factors and if it is worth our money as the game is today
