We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

I used a similar setup (pizeroW + battery bank) to take a photo of the sky every 30 seconds, then windows movie maker to stitch them together into a cool timelaps of the clouds rolling by. The 5000mAh battery bank lasted around 14hrs. Recently picked up a 10000mAh battery bank with a solar panel from B&M for £12.

@@TrollingAround The only way I would consider cloud based surveillance recording is if it's encrypted with no way for the service or anyone else to see the footage. I have cameras both inside and outside, and several of the ones outside only show what is on my private property. This is common for those that are serious about security cameras. Those who are serious also don't use "ring" or similar as it doesn't provide enough control and gets way too expensive.

As a pro cctv, intruder, smart automation installer, I trialled a number of doorbells to see if it was viable installer business, EZVIZ and Ring were rejected after significant testing. But after testing Eufy I have installed a few of these with cabled DC supply and WiFi with no customer callbacks. Viable? well you are up against people installing themselves for free (who by the way think they know what they are doing!), I decided to stay away from it. But I can recommend Eufy.

Not sure if you've looked into Home Assistant. I have been lately. Runs on the pi, so can be low power if it's left powered on 24hr daily. Just searching up "video doorbell home assistant" led me to some links of people who have apparently integrated the ring doorbell into home assistant with their videos being stored locally. I haven't done these things, but it's a project I'm considering down the road and thought I'd mention it. I don't think I"ll use the ring brand, maybe some doorbell that integrates more easily, but still researching. And what I've found has my interest piqued.

Same predicament with Ring, I’ve been looking at getting it to use my (paid for) web space, guessing it would simply be some kind of IP address and username - but that’s all hidden away within the Ring App :-( I’m sure someone will hack these things now the annual subscription has gone up.

A few comments: 1) I bought a Ring Doorbell 2 years or bit more ago. The subscription wasn't mentioned in the purchase blurb. Amazon apologized 2) I phoned Ring prepared to join just after 30days period. Small thing - as now, no option to pay by PayPal: only by debit/cr card. NOT very secure option online 3) Guy I spoke to said "I can see your videos here ... all is working well" .. that didn't engender confidence in security - that comment told they could see all my movements going fwd ! What if I'm away on holiday ? After all, under regn, they have my address 4) after feeling insecurity & not subscribing, the live doorbell function seemed to 'slow down' & phone notifications of live action occurred too late to talk properly with anyone at the door ... I put the Doorbell (nice quality itself) back in the box !!

Saying that - My last Amazon delivery of a couple of Iiyama monitors were delivered on time by DX couriers, only for some trigger happy DPD guy come and take them along with a collection of other DPD parcels that were nearby! i am pretty sure that in terms of your legal consumer rights, you already have more than enough evidence to file a chargeback with your bank or card company. based on breach of contract / terms of sale and failure to give proper notice. and if after that amazon gives you any stick for it you can email their cis customer accounts department after the fact. i think you should do this based on principle and to stand up for customer rights. of course your other 2 options would be to sell it on ebay. or to try and have it jailbroken, but its all proprietary soc and hardware / cpu. so that simply is not going to work. so more ethically speaking better to just file the chargeback i would say. (rather than lumber the same set of problems onto another consumer)

You will burn through the battery in no time with a Ring doorbell permanently recording. I was disgusted with the £10 hike from Ring for stuff I'm not even slightly interested with and bought the Eufy Duo you were looking at. The plus side to the Eufy is the picture quality is excellent, but notification isn't as quick as Ring's in my experience but regardless I'm not going back to them . Eufy do deals regularly so it's worth checking their website often. You should have spoken to Amazon's customer service and told them that you were unhappy that they have put the prices up (remember Ring is owned by Amazon) 9/10 they would have allowed you to return the order.

I wonder if there is a way to connect the ring doorbell/cam to the MotionEyeOS... maybe there is a firmware you can flash onto it that allows you to use their hardware (that you have already purchased) but on YOUR TERMS... I know this is popular to do with WiFi Routers... there was only one 'OS' back when I learn about this well over a decade ago, and now there are MANY router 'OS' choices you can flash your router's firmware to, so I would seriously think people have already done this to the Ring hardware, which is decent if you ignore the AWFUL night vision ghosting and artifacts that cause SOOOO MANY people to claim they are getting footage of ghosts... (NO JOKE!!! LMAO! I am subbed to A LOT of 'top5 ghost videos' channels and there are SO MANY videos of Ring night vision of someone that starts off looking totally normal but then the walk through a dark patch in the video and their dark clothing just 'disappears' when they walk out of that dark patch and then somehow the rest of their body sometimes starts to just disappear until all that's left is their dog and it's leash floating up in the air being held by an invisible person LMAO!!! - and people have this happen ALL THE TIME - and they STILL BELIEVE IT'S ALL JUST GHOSTS!!!!! LOL) Anyway... where was I? lol - Yea, it might be worth looking into. I am NOT a fan of all these 'products as a service' that charge you every single month just to user it. Kinda like how BMW will now charge you every month just to enable the HEATED SEATS that are ALREADY INSTALLED. Like it's already installed and the hardware is there in your car, so why do you have to pay BMW just to turn it on? It's getting out of control. I can understand Ring charging you because you're savin g YOUR data to THEIR SERVERS and that DOES cost money. But this has led to lower end companies with video doorbells and security systems that DO NOT WORK AT ALL if your internet goes out!! WHAT KIND OF SECURITY IS THAT?!?!?!? It used to be that burghers would have to snip your telephone line and your house alarm would stop working, but then the companies wised up and would call you asking for a 'password' that if you didn't know it they would send the cops out... But now if your internet goes out how can they call people that have VoIP? OR someone (like me) that gets TERRIBLE Cell signal at my house so I have to use WiFi calling... so the security company wouldn't be able to call me either..... And this REALLY hit home to A LOT of people when a 'paranormal video' had gone viral in the 'ghost video' community when a woman was home alone when her internet was out, and their was a strange shape of a shadow coming through the small frosted window next to her door inside of the door frame (meaning some ONE or some THING was standing at her front door) but wasn't knocking or even moving at all - just STANDING THERE. And because her internet was down she couldn't open her phone and look at the security camera feed to see who or what was standing at her front door! And what made this 'paranormal' in nature was that both of her dog, which she says are normally very jumpy and loud to anyone approaching the front porch or cars in the driveway, were both just standing still staring at this shadow in that frosted glass window next to the door. So she's filming all this on her phone, whispering to us that the cameras weren't working cause the internet is down, and she's terrified because the dogs aren't barking and she's home alone, etc.... and she stops talking and you hear her trembling with fear as we hear her breathing and we can see the dogs are very tense when SUDDENLY THE SHADOW ON THE GLASS MOVES AWAY AND BOTH HER AND THE DOGS ALL JUMP AT THE SAME TIME!!! But the dogs don't bark, and she has to try very hard to refrain from screaming out loud, but they all kept it together and soon after the video ends. So it was quite a tense video that wasn't technically paranormal but it did manage to convey that tension very well. And the first person to ever show this video started narrating again and was talking about how this could have all been avoided if those dang cameras worked without needed an internet connect just to look and see who (or what) was standing on the other side of that door..... And SO MANY of the the comments on that video were about how awful technology companies have become by charging these monthly fees to access the hardware you already have. And so I think this perfectly demonstrates the NEED for people to- take FULL CONTROL over their OWN, OWNED SYSTEMS. --- Sorry for the yapping, but I feel like this ring company was started with GREAT INTENTIONS, but now that AMAZON OWNS IT, not only are THEY trying to gain FULL CONTROL of YOUR security, but THEY ABSOLUTELY DO HAND THIS POWER DIRECTLY TO THE POLICE WHETHER YOU WANT THEM TO OR NOT!!! Remember their 'MESH NETWORK' they created that you had to SIGN YET ANOTHER USER AGREEMENT a few months ago??? (if you're a Ring customer) - Some of us may even know about this WITHOUT BEING THEIR CUSTOMER TOO.... Well that connected ALL THE RING DEVICES TOGETHER (meaning all the people IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD are connected TOGETHER and if they lose internet, you gave them permission to CONNECT TO YOU, THROUGH YOUR RING SO THEY CAN USE YOUR INTERNET... yea, that's part of what you HAD TO say 'yes' to..... WHAT ELSE DID YOU SAY YES TO??? Well from what I understand (I'm not 100% on the details, but this is what I could gather) They have given LAW ENFORCEMENT PERMISSION TO USE YOUR CAMERA FOR THEIR NEEDS... So if they feel like your neighbor 'needs' to be spied on, they WILL JUST USE YOUR CAMERA TO DO IT.... WHETHER YOU WANT THEM TO OR NOT... YOU ALREADY AGREED TO LET THEM...AND THEY DO NOT HAVE TO TELL YOU!!!! EVER!!!! Okay, now that I have caused you MORE FEAR THAN ANY GHOST VIDEO EVER COULD... time to go! LOL!!! :D Have a great week! ... Oh and this applies to the USA/// I have no clue about the rest of the world.... but it sounds like that is their goal....
