RING MALTESE RELATIVE STRENGTH TEST

In this video, I want to test my relative strength for the ring Maltese. There is a strong correlation between the isometric weight hold and the ring Maltese. It was found out that gymnast that can do a Maltese can push around 60% of their body weight in that exercise. That surely doesn't mean you can directly hold a Maltese, but it gives you a powerful tool to train progressively towards it with weights.

Fuuuarrrk, no wonder gymnast biceps look insane. I’d imagine this is gonna stretch the shit out my biceps when I do this

Yeah and will also strengthen the hell outta tendons

Do these really strengthen the biceps? I want to start practicing the progressions for some of these ring moves to get those crazy gymnast muscles, for example I know the iron cross gives gymnast those big shoulders
@Jeff_123
@Jeff_123 3 года назад
@@jordyramirez287 this is amazing for bicep tendon strength which will allow you to train excerises like planche, Maltese,iron cross and etc. with a lower injury risk as your bicep tendon is less likely to tear. Of course this doesn't replace planche leans,RTO support holds and other beginner skill progressions

What I like about this exercise is when you get to 60% learning the Maltese or planche is going to be easier to achieve.

This strength comparison stuff is interesting. I also heard “if you can do 20 full range of motion HSPUs at 150lb BW, then you can strict press 225”

20 reps are already an endurance set, that means that the exercise is too easy and not optimal to build strenght

Artem Morozov held 73% of his bodyweight. 45kg total and he weighs like 20 whole kgs less than you. Crazy! I wonder what Scarlux can hold as he has the most impressive straight arm strength I have ever seen.

Mr Schultz advice on training the front lever? Thoughts on doing negatives from the top to train it? Thanks for the video

I'm 5'9", 156lbs. I'll rep out maltese DB press with 40lbs each hand. I can maybe muster 1 or 2 reps with 45lbs, about 58% bodyweight. Because I haven't been training on rings, I can only just barely hold advance tuck planche. Actual maltese anything is so far down the road...

I also noticed that holding 30kg in lying down position is easier than holding the same weight but standing up, could this be a clue of why you can’t maltese by just doing that exercise?

No the difference is the loading arm on your shoulder. Laid creates less torque

awesome video. Yeah like u said specificity is key, probably a band assisted maltese, partner assisted, pulley assisted or even maltese leans might be better than this exercise.
