We have used several different ring mandrels over the last few years. We have decided to give our best review on each of the different mandrels. I am sorry for the audio! Some weird things were going on with my mic as I was recording and filming at the same time on this one! Thank you for watching, comment your questions!

I appreciate this video man. I just started my ring making journey and will be buying the CF mandrels This week from you. I bought the artisan chuck and am happy with it, but I agree that I don't have enough room. I also have your set of jaws as well as the boring tool knob in my cart also. What a great idea! Pretty badass that you offer at such a great price. Thanks a ton!

New at turning .. Thanks for explaining the collet chuck holder in the beginning. For that I subscribed !! It was extremely helpful. Question .. why might my wood ring not be the same thickness all the way around. It measures 6 mm at its thinnest and creeps up to 9 mm as I go around the ring ? Ty

Thank you! Happy to hear that helped. It could be wobbling on the lathe, or just cut crooked?

Hi there, I’m a novice machinist and brand new to ring making. I saw you indicating off the ring, I wondered for here at home, do you have a method for verifying if there is any runout in the ring itself to get a close idea of the accuracy of the fixtures themselves? I know in the case of this video you were going for relative comparisons. I couldn’t quite tell if your indicator had any preload, for some fixtures it appeared to have some and for others it didn’t. All the same, I appreciate the demonstration of what’s available!

Hey Daniel, I tried my best to 0 out every mandrel. For rings at home I'm not quite sure! If you find a way let me know. I've never really had a problem with the minimum amount of runout though. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

Interesting video. I’m actually in the middle of designing myself a new mandrel, because the runout I’m getting isn’t acceptable on everything else I have. I’m looking for fairly high precision, and I’m hoping for less than 0.003” of runout when it’s finished.
@DreamwoodRings

That would be amazing! Thanks for watching, If you get it worked out I would love to see the final product.

If you use the proper sized bushings on the artisan mandrel for the ring size you're turning, clearance shouldn't be an issue.
@DreamwoodRings
@DreamwoodRings 10 месяцев назад
Yes you do get enough clearance, but with sanding I like to be able to flatten out the sand paper to make sure I am not oversanding into the channel. And with the pieces on the edges it makes that difficult.

Very nice and informative. I have a question. not sure f it is your channel where I saw it. I have a piece of wood. quite special to me. I want to mount it on a 8mm inlay blanc. Not sure, if I break it apart (2 Pieces) how will i mount it? ow will i compensate for the loss of meterial where the break is. if you can assist, that would be great, or just point me in a direction please.
@DreamwoodRings
@DreamwoodRings Год назад
Hi I have a video on that very thing! Check under videos and how to inlay wood and antler. You just need to make your wood inside diameter around .1-.2mm bigger than the ring diameter for it to fit perfectly.

When you use the “Unimandrel” on your metal lathe, how do you attach it to the head stock??? Three jaw chuck…..Four jaw chuck??? Thank you
