The old chime will not work with the ring doorbell. The ring doorbell is a digital doorbell that connects wirelessly to a chime. You can use your phone as the chime or you can purchase any other brand digital chime that has wireless connectivity doesn’t have to be ring brand. You can share your doorbell with other houses hold members that way everyone’s phone will alert when somebody rings the doorbell. The person setting up the doorbell for the first time will be the “admin” and can grant limited access to the doorbell to any other phone.

You can, actually, but not with this specific model. The ring doorbell wired is, I think, the only ring doorbell that you cannot use with your house's chime kit. Infact, this doorbell, in order to work correctly, came with a jumper cable that you may attach to your chime kit so that it does not work as it's intended and your device doesn't get damaged.

Don’t need a subscription to use it BUT you need a subscription to store your videos. There is a 30day free trial after that you can only see live feed. With subscription ring will store your videos for 60days. I think subscription is $30/year.

You don’t need a chime your phone will at like a chime. The motion zones are highly customizable in my opinion so you can definitely set it up in a way that your neighbor will not trigger a notification. You phone will send you notification alerts when motion is detected and it will ring or act like a chime when somebody pressed the doorbell.

If you don’t have an existing doorbell you probably don’t have a power source (wires). You will have to purchase the battery operated ring doorbell or equivalent. Or if you are handy you can run wires from a 24V power source like a plug in power supply.

The required voltage is between 16 -24V. if you already have a doorbell system there should be a transformer that steps down your 120V to 24V. You can check the voltage at the door with a multimeter.

@@csabi770 i live in Sweden we have 220v but the meter when i check it shows me 12v so i imagine it’s what it’s I’ll have to try it but thanks for the response

You can also try to find existing transformer. Some transformers are adjustable usually 6v, 12v, 16v, 18v, 24v. You can also purchase the correct transformer from your local hardware or electrical supply store. AMAZON has them to , type in 887774401282011 into your Amazon search. Let me know if it worked.

You have to have a digital chime, it connects to the chime wirelessly. I you have an old style chime this will not work with it.

Your old chime will no longer work if installing any ring doorbell. you have to purchase the ring chime or use your phone as a chime. Not sure if you can get any other brand chime to work with ring doorbell. The doorbell connects wirelessly to your chime so you have to get a wireless enabled chime.

I did some more research and you definitely need a digital wireless chime and there are a number of deferent brands that are compatible with Ring doorbells.

I am assuming you are interested to know how far the chime can be installed from the doorbell. The doorbell and chime are connected through your WiFi Network. So if you have WiFi throughout the whole house you can install it anywhere.

It plugs into a 120V wall outlet but it only uses 16-24V. I don’t know if you can plug it in a European 220V outlet without damaging it.

You have to run new wires with a transformer that converts power from 120V to 24V. Or your other option is to purchase a different model ring doorbell that is rechargeable and runs of a built in rechargeable battery pack.

By installing the jumper you turn the circuit from a momentary circuit to a constant power circuit to power you Ring doorbell. I have a wiring diagram that explains it I will try to attach it .

@@MariaRios-ml3nb do you have wires at the doorbell? If you do, using a multimeter make sure the voltage is around 24V. If you don’t have wires at the doorbell you have to run wires if you want to install this model ring doorbell. Your other option is to purchase the rechargeable ring doorbell that runs of a rechargeable battery pack.

I agree , the microphone on my doorbell died after a few months of installation.

Ring chime is good and really loud. Your phone notification bell will sound before people even get to the doorbell.

Make sure you install the jumper between the correct points and that the jumper terminal ends are not touching anything else. If you still have your old doorbell installed make sure is not stuck, if the doorbell is removed make sure the exposed wires are not touching.

@@csabi770 I have it in contact with the trans and front terminals. I did make sure they aren't touching on the ring outside and the doorbell inside. For some reason it's still triggering a constant chime.

Make sure your transformer is not faulty. You can also disconnect the wires from front and trans, and connect them with a wire nut completely bypassing your old chime.

@@csabi770 On that thought if I have a front and back doorbell can I wire nut those and the trans wire (3 total) together and by pass the chimes? Thanks in advance.

No I did not. Most definitely not one of my brightest ideas, even thought I know it is low voltage I should have turned circuit breaker OFF.

Once I had the outer cover on it I removed the plastic. That was the last thing I did to protect the camera throughout the installation.

@@csabi770 nice. I just got my ring wired. What are your thoughts so far? The motion sensor works well just not as far as I hoped it would. It works best when someone is walking towards the door despite changing the settings.

My camera is sensing cars diving by on the street. To me it was to sensitive, my phone was going of every 5 seconds. I finally had to adjust it to only notify me if there was a person within the camera range. Make sure there is nothing blocking the view of the camera like bushes, branches, flowers.
