This is me singing with 3/4 of Ringmasters when they came to visit my college. This song is called "Blue Skies" and is arranged by Clay Hine. Martin was feeling under the weather, so I asked Rasmus to sing bass with us!
I have played in orchestras my entire life but this kind of singing fascinates me. The harmony is so cool and intonation is just dead on I can hear the beats. And the one guy that holds the note forever, fantastic!
I grew up loving (and still love) classical music and love singing classical masterworks, etc. But when I found barbershop, and the attention paid to close, tight, accurate harmonizing... I fell in love. I still spend time with classical, but have found this to be an extremely fun hobby, and a great community! There are barbershop choruses ALL OVER -- men's, women's, mixed. Find a chorus and try it out!
Honestly the most impressive part of this is rasmus at 0:28 bc he’s like 10 cents flat and then adjusts himself lmao like how do these people just know how to do that
wow! you have such a powerful and healthy voice! it’s impressive that you can hold your own with three aic singers. i hope your singing has only gotten better over the years :)
jbconnor3 you should definitely post some more videos of you singing! i’ve recently gotten ahold of the sheet music for blue skies and have referenced back to this video many times as an example of how this arrangement should sound.
@Physikhasse Rasmus won gold mixed quartet with Potential Scandal more recently singing bass and did win a medal with Stockholm Syndrome, but as a tenor. Ridiculously talented man. Directs Zero8 and they got the third place chorus medal 2019 , also directs Pearls of the Sound ladies chorus and they got fourth place medal at internationals this year.
This is crazy! I left this comment here completely unaware I would see you in real life 8 hours later! I didn't get the chance to meet you, but I'll make sure to shake your hand next weekend at the convention! ( and maybe sing some tags?)
@@jbconnor3 I just found out about this style of music a month ago and I'm so into it. There's something about barbershop harmony that's just so satisfying! I've learned a few tags (by myself cause I don't have any barbershop friends) and I dream of singing in a quartet one day. Now I'm looking for a barbershop community in Berlin, where I live, to hopefully begin my journey. Just dreaming about singing tags with my friends makes me so excited! Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with your musical endeavors!
@@jbconnor3 That's also the first impression I got of the barbershop community - small but friendly. I'm graduating high school at the moment, so there's a great deal of uncertainty in my life right now. This could be a great way to find like-minded people and connect. I might also start taking singing lessons to build my skill and (more importantly) my confidence, so that I'll actually have the courage to sing with people as skilled as the pros! I'm not very good yet at picking up a part very quickly, but I know that's a muscle that can be trained and I'm so excited to learn!
@@jbconnor3 That's so nice, thanks so much! I don't have any more questions right now (and I should really go to bed), but I'll make sure to message you when I have another question!
Hey, I live in Berlin and I know a bunch of people here enthusiastic about Barbershop harmony (including me haha). I sing in a choir (classical, not Barbershop) and we have a lot of Barbershop enthusiastic people there, so many in fact that we started a WhatsApp group where we discuss all things Barbershop and where we (during non-corona times) regularly scheduled tag-days to learn and sing new tags. If you're still looking for people to sing with, just hit me up with a message :)
@@jbconnor3 tight harmonies and overtones are simply amazing buddy...I know about them they are really mind-blowing but singing with them is really a honour Cheers
@@jbconnor3 I love barbershop so much I am glad I got into my freshman year in college. I sing lead but on occasion Tenor in our university's barbershop ensemble. I have a high tenor that's why I can sing both lead and Tenor haha
