The silver lining here is that Tolkien would probably be immensely happy to know that the works of literature he created made such a devout and loyal fan base that even 70+ years after his death they are fighting like fanatics to protect his legacy.
"Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!"
*ahem* 1. Galadriel and Miriel never met. 2. Galadriel never commanded armies. That was her brother and Elrond. 3. Galadriel never wore armor not wielded a sword. She didn't need to. She was a powerful mage who even scared Sauron. She's the reason he never attacked Lothlorien. 4. Galadriel was never brash and bent on revenge. She was wise, mysterious, and level headed. These are just a few of the changes the writers/showrunners made to one character. They made so many changes to the lore that so far ROP doesn't resemble anything even close to Tolkien. That is a major problem.
The problem isn't that ROP doesn't resemble anything like Tolkien, but that the creators claim it would. I have seen and enjoyed a movie called "Abraham Lincoln, vampire slayer" that didn't much resemble anything the real Abe ever did; that's the freedom of art. But telling me "we corrected some of the major flaws in Tolkien's work" (no citation) sounds like the ministery of truth in 1984 ...
Galadriel in the first age was not so wise and was more corageus, she made her part in Aqualonde. But it wasn’t for revenge, she wanted to have her land, to be a queen and to rule. Not to have armies and fight. Her arc was one about refusing power (and she completes it when she refuses the ring, that is why in the LOTR she culminates that arc and goes to Valinor), she desired power before. And yes... this has nothing to do with wielding swords or revenge.... this is why it is so bad, her character arc is totally replaced by another. The power she had to see the Will of people is one that she always had and is totally ignored in the series, and in PJ movies is totally mastered and well represented. I think they tried to represent the Galadriel of the 1 age, but the thing is. 1. Is second age. 2. The character arc is wrong.
@@Rezzatoni I saw "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" in the theater! I was able to suspend disbelief and enjoy the movie for one great reason: the filmmakers told the audience up front this was NOT a piece of historical work, this was a work of alternate fiction. Amazon, OTOH, is telling the audience up front they intend to "revise" the established canon "and you will be happy, or we shall call you razist a second time!"
@@Rezzatoni 🤔 Vampire Slayer was a spoof horror flick, so I guess I can sort of see this RoP as a Spoof fantasy flick? I could go with that if I watch through a comedic lens...
I hate the "Peter Jacksons movies also got hate until they were released". This is the same. No... No it is not. People gave Peter Jackson hate until they saw the product, because we lived in a time with far less promotional material and far less information. The internet was young in 2000. And media hadn't learned to use it. Thus the LOTR fans that gave PJ a hard time, did it because a) They knew little about what they would get. b) Everyone expected something bad, because it was the director of Brain Dead, AND because no one had seen a good fantasy movie. Fantasy movies was pretty shit before LOTR and not taken seriously. We know ALOT about Rings of Power by contrast. The amound of information is simply in different league. And we know what a good fantasy product looks like (PJ movies). So we are not worried about what they might do in Rings of Power. No, instead we are angry because we know how little they respect Tolkien, and we are sad, because we know how much better it could have been, had someone that actually loves Tolkiens work, as it is, had been in charge. It is not the same situation as in 2000.
Actually, what we know of the rings of power seems to be "we are diverse, look at this black elf, look at this black FEMALE dwarf. oh these don't push you to want to watch it? your racist" Ive heard little of a plot from these people
@@MyAramil i have heard a lot of plot (or feel like i heard a lot) from Nerdrotic. But ofcause that is leaks from an insider he knows, so it comes down to how much you trust both nerdrotic and his contact.
There is plenty I don't like about PJ'S movies. But NONE of those issues with PJ'S movies excuses what is happening with RoP. Just because I had a cold meal 20+ years ago and was able to finish the meal doesn't mean I want a shit sandwich now. And if I complain about the shit sandwich on the menu, saying, "Well you haven't actually eaten the shit sandwich yet, or you had a cold meal 20 years, why complain now," isn't a logical fucking argument.
@@Degarth but when they talk about how "PJ got hate until the movies comes out", they are talking about the people who ended up liking the PJ movies (because they assume that you wil like the RoP show once you see it), and not you who had a lot of problems also after the movies came out.
What people don't get is, this is like someone taking a Van Gogh painting, painting their own interpretation of it, and proclaiming it as the new Van Gogh. It's art. And they're screwing with it. That's why we're peeved.
Not only are they trying to paint a new Van Gogh, they try to paint it over significant parts of his original works. And they try to do it by using spraycans to graffiti their favorite smileys and symbols on it and then claim it's better than the original
Except, they would also keep insulting anyone who dislikes "the new Van Gogh" calling those people misochinists, racists, haters, not real Van Gogh fans and probably call them a whole lot of other insults for having their opinion.
Let me explain why 'representation' is bullshit. As a white male, I LOVED 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' 'Family Matters', 'Friday" and there were basically NO white people in those shows. Also "The Color Purple" Oprah Winfrey brought me to tears. I did not need whites in these shows. I do not need to see myself reflected everywhere I look. I can relate to these characters as HUMAN BEINGS. What we are and feel does not end at our SKIN COLOR. If you need to see YOURSELF in everything, you are shallow. I loved Blade, a black superhero, but I do not want Superman to be black, because he ISN"T. Stop changing established characters and mythos to pacify shallow babies.
I love how they made Galadriel "younger" even though during the second age she is well over 5000 years old. She was born during the years of the trees in which 1 year was around 7-9 years of time in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd age.
@@Han-rw9ev and at age 5000 + something, has the mentality of a 17 year old... I HATE whenever they make ancient individuals (in any story) act like teenagers. It is so disrespectful to the art of world building, and soo stupid
I loved the part where Galadriel shouted “avengers assemble” and Avada Kedavra-ed the patriarchy straight to Westeros. Totally one of the scenes ever made, couldn’t stop crying
I am a Tolkien fan, and I am Native American. I never thought that "the characters being white" was a problem. But now, I do have a problem with Amazon doing all that race-swapping bullsh*t. First of all, it doesn't help 'the Cause' at all, because they do it in stupid ways. If they want to make the show about people of colors, they should just do it about Harad or the Easterlings, and not do race-swapping lol
I am that kind of person who doesn't care about race swapping. Sure, have a black person play elf. But make them look like elves are supposed to look. Not this discount robin hood with cheap ear prosthetic.
the worst part about it, is you know they have hijacked issues for the own marketing purposes they dont give a shit out inclusion,, the give a shit about the marketing appeal for the demographic. it's like hijacking a tragedy for your own Greed.
I guess they mentally wrote off Harad and the Easterlings as "bad guys" (though I don't believe that's what Tolkien would say), so adding them to the show and hiring appropriate actors for the roles would be "problematic"
@@justwonder1404 It's obviously not what Tolkien would say. It is especially not the case during the time of the show, which is before the Rings are forged. Majority of the Easterling would came under Sauron's influence due to Khamul, the great king of easterlings, becoming ringbearer and later Ringwraith. This would be an excelent story to explore because we know quite literally nothing about who the Nazgul were. Want a story with representation? Cast Khamul as one of the hero good guys and make one of the plotlines his tragic fall. "What if Boromir kept the Ring" sort of deal. I just pitched a ten times better story that has representation without tokenism than whatever RoP is going to be.
I loved the part where the brainwashed Rings of Power fan said "I am the law" and Galadriellelle replied "LLLAAAWWWWW!!!". So much movie, so amazement, 10/10.
These people defending rings of power aren't fans, they are shills. They won't actually watch the show, but they will call you a racist if you say you won't watch it. They are npc's; wokeys.
So fed up with the "it's fantasy" argument. As if fantasy would not need to care for immersion, continuity or logic. What people like these also forget is that literature is a channel of thoughts between author and reader, and we're apparently not allowed to care for those thoughts or wanting them to be respected.
The "it's fantasy" argument, IMO, comes from people who first of all don't understand the influence of culture on every day life, paired with the complete ignorance about the culture - building power of mythos. Fantasy, I think, is what translates the archetypes of old, the great hero's journeys, the rites of passage into a language understsndable and relatable for contemporary societies. Sure, fantasy is not the only genre that does that, but it covers the part of the spectrum of old thought patterns that tend to be overlooked or frowned upon by the other genres.
The silver lining to this train wreck has been the unification of a global Tolkien fanbase who are not standing for this crap. Props to them; they're magnificent, all ages, skin colours, nationality and both sexes. We won't rest until this garbage is thrown in the trash heap and buried without trace.
Oh no .. you said "both" sexes. How DARE YOU!! You will get hate responses from the other 77 imaginary sexes .. or genders .. or fluid alien furry nutters
If they see you get hit by a car: why are you complaining? At least wait until you get to the hospital to see what happens then. Why can't you embrace the experience?!! 😅😑
I was blown away by the trailer. That bit where Eminem Sauron came out as non-binaroid and used they them pronouns reinforced what that superfan was saying "I can change him". It was so wholesome that I immediately cried for 2 months non stop and deliberately went to bed after hitting by knee with a hammer 22 times. It was also nice to see JRR Tolkiens recent tweet saying how Amazon have basically done what he could never do by writing something so much better than what he did. Thank you amazon and the cast for injecting activism into that nasty white racist homophobic bigots work.
So, we can’t dislike the show because we haven’t seen it, but we must like it because the people who haven’t seen it tell us to? And these intellectual bantam weights have the gall to claim ‘Tolkien was wrong’? Good grief…
Just a few years ago they all hated corpos. The moment corpos kissed their ass they love them. While STILL going off online that Bezos is a monster. They hate being wrong so much they'll shill for somebody they hate
How about the complete re-writing of second age history and making galadriel a warrior woman on a quest for vengeance and having elrond be a little soy boy who congratulates her for being given his title. A Tolkien fan would never co sign amazons show. So you are full of shit.
I am not a huge Tolkien fan and I am absolutely disgusted by what Amazon is doing. The cast sounds dumber every single time they open their mouths, and don't even get me started with the "writers".

4:25 he "made it up"? Tolkien crafted his work with meticulous attention to detail. He wove legend, myth and history into one fantastical universe. The argument "its fantasy bro" can only come from someone who is surprised by the fact that people actually have these little things in their minds called thoughts.
well, technically he made it up. I've read the Witcher books several times, 7 or 8, since primary school long time ago. I'm a big fan of this world and I know most of the details and easter eggs of it. When I first heard about Netflix making the series I was glad, because I knew there's a perfect source material filled with masterpiece dialogues (Sapkowski is a master of these) and all you have to do is read the books 2 times and turn it into a script page by page, you'd have at least 5 awesome seasons. When it became obvious that Netflix decided to fuck the source material and generally shit on the Witcher's world, I didn't hesitate to write on the Internet that the emperor is naked, using all the knowledge about the Witcher I gathered through the years, writing fucking essays in the RU-vid comment sections with great precision and attention to details to express my outrage as a fan. And it quickly turned out that being a fan that knows the universum makes me... leprous. I quickly became subconsciously ashamed of being a fan when interacting with people on the internet and I started to censor myself more. And that's what Netflix meant to do, that's what's Amazon is trying to do - to get to the point in which they can use the trademark, title and character names of great books and have freedom to "adapt" it in whatever way they'd like to, even completely shitty, because the actual fans are censored by useful idiots on the internet or are autocensoring themselves. No more. I'm a die hard fan of Tolkien's works and I will use all the little capabilities I have to make Amazon fail.
I feel your pain, fellow Sapek fan. Tolkien fandom has the advantage over the Witcher fans of several additional decades of forming and the massess of reader all around the globe, which kind of makes me less bitter about the somewhat scarce outrage about the Netflix 's "adaptation" (at least I don't see much of it on English speaking channels). Let's hope the reaction of Tolkien' s fandom encourages all the other ones to stand up for what they believe. (actually, since the Netflix series sparked wider interest in the Witcher Saga's translations, I wonder how strong this fandom gets several decades from now)
My one consolation is that we have the originals. No one can destroy these. When Amazon's mess premieres, I'm going to be watching Lord of the Rings again, instead. Quality endures. In 50 years, these classics will still be bringing joy to new fans, and the trash will be forgotten.
Elves with short hair , elves and dwarves of colour are Minor details when compared to Galadriel in a place she never went to , doing stuff she never did , canon characters with non canon stories, Sauron completely destroyed as a character. It is a joke . Harfoots my foot . Durin the 3rd and 4th at the same time which lore are we talking about and going back to book for . They are liers .
Let me tell you something about these ROP enjoyers, i was « debating » with one of them and the person literally told me, and i quote: « all i want of this show is to be good, being faithful is secondary to me ». From that moment, i knew this was useless to keep going. That statement alone makes it completely irrelevant to even argue with such a person about anything related to Tolkien. Being faithful to the source material is the most crucial thing in any adaptation of a literary work, let alone one of the most beloved and respected one. People like that person are the exact target audience for this show: doesn’t care about Tolkien, doesn’t see the problem with not respecting his vision that he depicted so precisely, just wants to be entertained, inclusion here and there just for the sake of it. If you’re someone like that, YOU, should not be allowed to open your mouth about anything on how WE justifiably envision this universe, and how this show should be. Because « as someone who finds being faithful is secondary », you have zero right to even argue with someone who deeply loves and understands this lore. And therefore have zero idea of what you’re talking about and do not deserve an ounce of attention from true fans. So this is it people, my fellow true Tolkien enjoyers, here are the ROP enjoyers: people who « just want the show to be good », as « being faithful is secondary » to them. An absolute disgrace.
i mean the show is not even good it is objectively really really bland and bad, even if it was a standalone fantasy series that had nothing to do with tolkien/LoTR it would still be pretty trash. i am pretty sure most of these RoP defenders/"enjoyers" dont even watch the show.
According to what you wrote, I have 0 rights to argue because I enjoyed RoP? What is the problem if I don't follow Tolkien and I just want for entertaiment?
When there was a Sky News article about Amazon putting the price of Prime up, there were people defending them in the comments on the price increase 🤣.

@@BillyTheBigKid82 to be honest it would make me sad... i actually really enjoyed Blade movie. When it came out. And i would not change a thing about it. At this point everything they are doing is just disgusting at this point. And dividing. I guess that is the main goal.
A studio makes trailers, issues press releases, and sends the cast out to do interviews to give the potential audience a feel for what it's offering and drum up excitement. This does not suddenly become untrue just because the effort backfires and ends up achieving the opposite. You can't have it both ways. Either we all get to react to what we see or nobody does. If the "super fans" get to wax lyrical based on what they've seen, those of us who are appalled can draw our own conclusion and make them known too.
As a Tolkien fan I only hope you will tear this abomination of a show there and back again. It might be best entertainment we get out of this sorry mess.
Yesterday I opened Photoshop on my computer to start working and... I saw the image. I couldn't help but think "this shit follows me everywhere, even if I don't want to think about it" Now I have to look into Galadriel's eyes every time I want to start the program. I felt that the universe cruelly mocked me. I was very amused that you mentioned the subject, I didn't expect it, I thought I was the only one who had been bothered even if it was minimally by that photo to at least comment about it. Anyway, nice video. It comforts me to see how fans defend the professor's work throughout the world even if we don't have the means and power of a company like Amazon. We must continue like this. Greetings from my little corner of battle in Mexico.
naw I agree with the fans of Tolkiens work I'm African American and I don't like all the pandering they are doing to get people like me to watch it I'm not the biggest expert on the lore and stuff but I've watched the films and read a couple of books and I understand how fans feel about stuff being inserted that doesn't need to be added and the constant disrespectful remarks made about that man I'm not feeling that shit at all.
The idea of Lord of The Ring is that it took place in ancient England, the elves were very light skinned people as were the hobbits and men. If you were to look on a map you would see England is in a very specific place far away from the lands of Africa. During these ancient times there were no dark skin men in England, there was a time on Earth when there was little to no diversity. Non of this means Tolkien was racist, non of these observation would mean Tolkien is a racist author none of these historical facts mean the Lord of the Rings is a racist work of art. Amazon and her writers believe Tolkien was racist as proven in many articles, many direct quotes and the fact they have changed the characters in Lord of the Rings "to reflect a more modern...". To me personally I really do not care, I am not going to watch Rings of Power, the show is not for me. The producers, the actors and the writers have stated this show is not for me as a Tolkien fan, this new show is for someone else. That's fine. They can change history, they can change the facts of the world, they can change everything to fit their agenda, that's fine with me. If I say anything against it then I am called racist, if I think the show is poorly made then I am called racist. If I notice they have the "first black female dwarf" then I am racist. IF I NOTICE THEY HAVE A BLACK FEMALE DWARF then I am considered racist. This type of racism is as old as it gets, I don't want to be a part of it, I am not racist. I love all people. Unfortunately the writers and producers do not want me to watch Rings of power because the colour of my skin does not fit their agenda. Amazon does not want me to watch Rings of Power.

Our criticisms are 100% legit. And stating them every time a trailer is released, or an interview, or article is released, is quite normal. They are trying to make their show succeed, and we are making sure it does not. We already know they are going to try to lie about the viewer numbers. They haven't been honest about anything to date. They won't be honest about that. When you have to attack fans, delete 10s of thousands of comments, turn comments off, hire image firms to combat the fans, bring in cringy old has-been people like Colbert to lie for you, advertise your show on candy bars and ice cream, bribe Tolkien "influencers" to shill for you...when you have to do all that, you know you screwed up, and your show is going to fail. The good thing is that it isn't a Tolkien story that's going to fail, because this story is not Tolkien...not Middle Earth.
Hey Jonny Law, subscriber #001133 here. I knew The Rings of Power would end up as a shit show, when Amazon failed to "adapt" Robert Jordan's the Wheel of Time. A 14 book series and their final product is what? Safe to say, zero hope for this money pit as well.
The Photoshop part got me lmfao- pretty ironic how a program that's supposed to help make pictures look better has the cheapest 1b dollar costume on it's opening tab.
Galadriel is the same age as Celebrimbor more or less they were born in the years of the trees while Elrond is a few thousand years younger and marries Galadriel's daughter who was born before Hollin is founded in the SA. She was already in Lindon first then became with Celeborn the ruler of Erigion in the second age as she was one of the rebel elves who left for middle earth (but didn't take part in the kinslaying) and crossed the ice in the first age. She then left to found Lothlorien leaving it open for Sauron to infiltrate Erigion.

I only heard about this through Reddit, and all the people I saw there were clapping and nodding in approval while also patting themselves on the back for getting the "racists" banned.
Galadriel actually never fought on any battlefield, even though she took part in a rebellion and a war. She was basically a support wizard, and didn’t have an active combat role.
Back during the age of Femtopia, women ruled kingdoms and fought battles, then things went to shit. Because women ruled kingdoms and fought in battles. Only then did they finally wipe out the evil of Sauron once and for all.

A day may come, my friends, when the Light of the West grows dim and the memory of this land is perverted beyond rescue. A day may come when the tales of our heroic ancestors are lost and the truths they fought for lie shattered and broken in the dust. A day is coming when none shall sing the songs of the Valar, and the only music to be heard will be the bleating self-reverential yawps of tiny men with weak minds and no imagination. A dark day, when the heroic tales that inspired our ancestors and drove them to seek perfection will all have been forgotten. A sad day, when themes of goodness and justice, chivalry, purity and sacrifice are ridiculed and perverted at every turn by those who would deny that such things still exist in the hearts of men. But today is NOT that day! A day may come when one cannot tell woman from man or man from woman, and when all love is a perversion of love. A cold, heartless day when the bearded are left beardless, the hole-dwellers rendered holeless and the whole of Middle Earth is left soulless, heartless and meaningless. A day may come when elves, dwarves and men will be judged not for the content of their character, but solely for the colour of their skin, the shape of their junk, or the intensity of their misanthropy. But today is NOT THAT DAY! A day may come when the rich and privileged can buy and sell the cultural heritage of millions for a few farthings, and the noble tales of our great ancestors will have become naught but triflings and tales to sell beer, pickup trucks and laundry detergent. A black day, at the world's end, when all that men turned to for inspiration will be broken humiliation, when the poetry of the ages will be stripped of its rhyme and meter, and placed in the mouths of mumbling sheep. BUT TODAY IS NOT THAT DAY! For all that is still good and decent in this world -- TODAY WE FIGHT!
Alright anti-Tolkien infiltrator activists, I promised I wasn't going to make this crossover comment but if Jonny memes this I'll be happy. I always get a kick from the people who say things like, "If you don't like it, then don't watch it. Why do you have to be mad?" Yes, because God forbid the fans of probably the greatest fantasy of all time go to defend it whenever people try to screw it up. What a dumbass argument. As if they've never had something they liked get ruined.
"It's fantasy" is the same kind of argument people who backed up the new Star Wars trilogy said. Something to the effect of "It's fiction". So are a lot of books. That doesn't mean someone didn't spend time to work and develop their work, like a painter or a musician, or even a programmer working on something. It's time and effort spent to create something. Disney and Amazon decided to ignore that effort, time and investment to make something up because they thiught their work would be better than the original. It's like painting atop a famous painting and say "Yes this is better."
"a certain detail" your reaction was awesome!! i cant understand people who write sth like this. Like u said its not a certain detail. the showrunner changed everything important in a bad way only for money. Thats so sad. At least we have the real thing the books :-)
The "It's fantasy"-argument is always so stupid. "It's just fantasy, so why do you care if it doesn't make sense?" Well, Harry Potter is also just fantasy, but if Harry killed Voldemort with a Glock, suddenly everyone would be upset. But hey, "It's just fantasy, so why dou you care if it doesn't make sense?".
It's the go-to argument for people who're creatively and intellectually bankrupt. Anyone with half a brain and a shred of imagination knows what a ridiculous argument that is.
Rings of Thrones Artistic Liberties - An excuse for the mangling of something where it no longer resembles the original piece that it was based on. Common in flim making and books when the author or director changes the storyline, characters, setting, etc. to try and draw in more viewers/readers. A derogative term in all senses. Already looking forward to the remake...
They are definetly stupid for liking it. I don't care if people have garbage taste in stuff. But I hate when they try to convince others it's okay produce garbage and try to bring down the standard to their level of stupidity.
Everything I've seen up to this point makes me think this Amazon series will be an absolute money grab sh*t show. Hope I am proven wrong, but I doubt that will be the case.
Funny how they can tell people who don't approve of it they haven't seen it yet, but they irrationally like it despite the evidence it's a political piece where they intentionally used whatever phrase even if it directly contradicted the one before it, to insert their opinions
People are crazy with this and I have never seen such amount of video posting and channels growing because of this even about johnny depp and company, its going to bad for them no matter how much they try shit is going to hit the fan.
It was once suggested that an infinite number of monkeys at an infinite number of keyboards would reproduce the complete works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this to be false.
I’m going to write down something that my mind came up from from that whole comment at like 4:30 that came as a funny and yet in the mind of someone who’s not the most sane a logical next step, “Mythology is technically made up so we can do whatever we want”
As for me, the creators of the rings of power want to create their own fantasy but are so uncertain of their skills that they are trying to use a very recognizable fantasy universe as their jumping off point.
If only people would focus on the importance of understanding the past on its own terms instead of projecting modern ideas and attitudes back into the past.
If Tolkien was alive, he would be cancelled or threatened to be cancelled and Amazon would just continue "adapting" his work. It would make no difference. It's the same thing they're doing to George Martin's work now. George Martin can't just say no, because he would be canceled.
So they mad for us not liking a show we havent seen yet, but say they already like show before watching it. Personally em going to give a shot, out of amusement and not under an delusion it's going to be good. In the end it's not going to change the books not matter what happens in Amazon's fan faction...i agree with Sean Astin's comment, that they can't change the source material, it's already been written after all
Where in the world did you find real comments? All I have seen is a tsunami of "I liked it when (something from another story happened) literal chills"
Fiction can change and be added to...but it shouldn't be perverted by darkness. Nothing Rings of Power did added to Middle Earth, everything there that I've been shown has weakened and denigrated it, diminishing it and making it look like the One Ring wasn't even needed to pervert people into twisted parody of themselves because they all already are that. There's entire cultures that could have been explored, regions so lightly touched upon by Tolkien that they could have gotten away with all of this and still gotten fan love, but they deliberately chose to go after iconic characters.
it doesn't matter if the show is good or not, the thing for me is that the story is not correct. if you want to change things at least have the chars have they own story line from the books, like every time Galadriel do something, i will think, she didn't do that, she didnt do that either, that alone, just ruins the story for me at least, knowing that she didn't do none of the things she will be doing in the show. dude the Name Galadriel was giving to her by her lover Coleborn, why isn't her name right now Telerin Quenya Alatariel ?.
Some common things with all these commenters that haunt the videos critizising RoP is that they are either repeating like parrots "just watch it", or straight up trying to tear down PJ's adaptation, without said adaptation every being mentioned. The second is an evolution of the first, mind you. They started shilling with enthusiasm, once they found the fans giving them the middle finger (don't even cringe watch or hate watch this shit. I'm serious, don't give them the numbers to boast!), they have changed the strategy and they try to pass as Tolkien "purists" who hate PJ's adaptation... and of course they never mention any other adaptation, mostly because they don't know they exist.
Lord of the g strings is a hilarious adaption where Gandalf is a drunk angry old man that bought a broken compass from a goblin and is way better than the rings of power can hope to be lol
LONG READ, BUT WORTH IT! I personally would like ONE intelligent perspective, by Amazon's Executives, Directors, or Actors outlining why it’s logical to insert modern day issues into Tolkien’s timeless fantasy world. All the directors and cast outwardly seem to do is twist their narrative and spew illogical, one way non-sense, mixed in with meaningless dialect, without ever once being pressed by the media in 1:1 in depth interview style formats to reach the truth, or at least ask them respectful, but in depth questions that force them to address their narrative. Simple questions, ones of which many of us, as true fans, could develop given just a few short minutes. Blindly clapping and supporting a diversity narrative, just for the sake of doing so, isn't logical. Read and research, ratios of 3 million + dislikes to only 100k likes are out there on the official trailers. In my lifetime, I have never witnessed anything like this, yet no one in the mainstream media can place these irresponsible directors, actors, or executives on the spot with a simple question like, care to explain??? What is your perspective on receiving a 97% dislike ratio on your official trailer? Are you not at all concerned this will result in failure? Are you only interested in entertaining 3% of an audience? How does this make sense for the fandom, or even business logic for self-gain? For example, can you specify how the insertion of black elves helps to support underrepresentation in Rivendale? Perhaps its due to the men of Gondor helping black elves reach a diversity goal? Would reaching this diversity goal result in less orcs populating the lands due to the black elves superior bowman-ship skills versus the fair skinned elves (you know, 100% of the correct elf population as specified by Tolkien)? I could go on, but this perspective likely makes sense to 97% of those of you reading this (smile -sarcasm). The seemingly endless pre-screened, and manufactured interviews, with the producers and cast, are only making matters increasingly worse. First, this is fantasy and it was Professor Tolkien’s life work, and his sole right to leave it such. Yes, his heirs have opted to sell part of the estate, so perhaps that’s Amazon’s business logic. However, besides that reasoning alone, there is little logic behind the decision to de-fantasize the novel. Second, when you look at the original works, one could argue the fantasy characters are actually, as Tolkien wrote it, much more diverse than we are in our reality. For instance, they already have multiple races, such as elves, orcs, goblins, hobbits, trolls, wizards, dwarfs, wraiths, dragons, skin changers, giants, etc., with many races within races. These few examples alone indicate many more cognitively intelligent species than in our human, earth bound reality. How then Amazon, is it that Tolkien’s fantasy world was not “diverse” enough already and needed YOUR HELP? Why does a African American need to “identify” with a goblin? Why then does Aragorn need to become black? At what point does it matter of a hobbit is LGTBQ? PLEASE EXPLAIN AMAZON!!! When any “ethnicity” states they have to see themselves in fictional characters, that makes zero logical sense on a very fundamental level. I would further argue that if one really wants to insert their personal, "earth bound reality” into middle earth, one could do so if they refocus and use their imagination. Anyone remember how to do that anymore - imagine? For instance, how is a hobbit not representative of a person with a (size) disability? They are half the size of men, and many other creatures in middle earth, leaving them open to great susceptibility. Aren't those who are disabled, in our earth bound reality, a protected class already? Furthermore, I would also argue that Tolkien himself set this up purposefully, to indicate that those of us with challenges, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant we are, can rise up and make a enormously positive impact to the world around us. Sigh…that said, how again Amazon are YOU making the world around you better, like Tolkien's message of hope did for millions of people? All your show is accomplishing is fostering hatred, segregation, and alienating a huge audience that loves and respects this timeless work. One closing thought for Amazon, why, in 2022, is it ok to destroy a non-American work of literature to begin with? In other words, if Hollywood truly desires diverse representation, spanning all formats, themes, and genres, then how can they purposefully promote and support non-diverse movies like Moana, Kubo, Captain Marvel, Ghostbusters remake, Black Panther, etc., all of which fly directly in the face of their exact narrative to support a diverse cast? If Amazon knows so much, why not just make a independent film series from scratch and it can be whatever Amazon desires? Out of ideas already Amazon, wow - that was quick (sarcasm)! My last thought is this, timeless works of literature, like Tolkien’s, should remain ethnically correct, and in this instance, northern Europe, and primarily Anglo-Saxon in nature and representation. If we as a society can accept, and respect that other historic works of film remain ethnically intact, such as Roots, then there is no reason the bend the rules for Tolkien’s work. Those who support Rings of Power, and other similar spin offs, are clearly unable to think for themselves, nor have the ability to comprehend or respect such a literary masterpiece, and are superficial, shallow, and are downright ignoramuses' that will never possess the ability to reach literary enlightenment, and I truly, truly feel abominable for them. I rarely ever cast negativity, but in this instance I will boycott Rings of Power, and every “diverse” spin off, with the hope others, in mass, do the same, with the end goal being a shift in Hollywood to reset the boundaries of what we, the fandom, will at least find palatable, let alone entertaining. I also hope this is a very valuable lesson for the Tolkien estate. Invest the money well for the sold Appendices, but please stop selling the rights. You owe it to your Grandfather to stop this madness, it was his life's work and legacy, and as a man of heritage myself, you should have some decency and respect for those who came before you, and try your best, going forward, to not allow these huge, soulless corporations to have access to sodomize any further Tolkien literature. God speed to all.
Amazon -" You used to love elves, but since we corrupted your precious elves and turned them jnto hideous orcs, you claim you don't like orcs. Why don't you like our orcs who were once those beautiful elves you used to love?"
In PJs The Two Towers movie (extended edition) there is a scene where Gimli & Legolas have a drinking game. Gimli gets drunk, and the actor, John Rhys Davies started adlibbing various lines, one of which is "Its the Dwarves who go swimmin, with the little hairy wimmin".
I'm not pissed at all about the show, I don't have to watch it, I'm probably more underwhelmed for ROP then I was for that Matrix reboot, I should have know that was going to be a turd and I half did. What would piss me off is if they removed all the books from the book shelves and burn them and release them with todays social toxic commentary written in to it and forced to re read it and forget the magic of the original books, one day that may indeed happen but not today, not on my watch. I understand the half feet were meant to have browner skin and I'm a Lenny Henry fan (Delbert Wilkins) but elves? (Although he does look pretty dam cool, if it was Dragon Age the tv show I'd be hyped) but this isn't Dragon Age or Skyrim although saying that know one seems to have any issues with unnecessary race swapping in Video games, why is that? I guess it's the fact they get to full immerse themselves in those games that a little bit of immersion breaking doesn't hurt. All in all I'm yet to see a social statement tv show actually have good writing, they Butchered the Witcher, now it's Tolkien's work on the cutting table. Race swapping works in video games coz they are great games and great writing, TV and movies are becoming a thing of the past.
