Thoughts on the second half of Amazon's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (specifically episodes 5/6). As we near the end of the season, it seems like the storytelling is falling apart (or maybe it was always like that).
Your storytelling is actually 100 times better than what the Rings of Powers show-runners could ever achieve haha! They are literally total hacks who wormed their way into a job they were grossly unqualified for. All they had to do was memorise some Elvish lines in order to convince Amazon that they were suited for the gig SMH. I genuinely think none of them have actually properly read the books.
why do directors and companies never learn that not sticking to the books will always end up with failure. It’s sad because this could have Been so populair and good….
This series feels like it's set in a computer game where you can walk from one end of the world to the other in less than an hour. The writers probably grew up playing those (I did) and are stuck in that ridiculousness view of fantasy.
But as soon as they said "back to the books" and still behaved this way, they lost all credibility. Even credibility about THEMSELVES, forget about their production.
I don't understand Adar. First he plots against Sauron and "kills" him. Then he has thousands of years time to perpare for their second round and he has raised an army. And then when someone says that he's playing into Sauron's hand by bringing him the orc army, instead of stepping back and looking at the situation objectively, he just goes "Nuh-uh, I don't want to hear any of this!". It's like his intelligence is evolving backwards.
Thank you. What you said is precisely what I thought watching it. One note on Valandil's death (guy killed by Pharazon's son). It was one of the modt stupid deaths I've ever seen. While this worked with the exemple of Zuko that you mentioned since there was no way for Zuko to prevent Zao from attacking, Valandil could have dropped that sword farther from Pharazon's son. That scene made him look like an idiot.
They could have made him drop the sword elsewhere, in the water, so prince brat would get a spear from a guard and kill him. That would be an easy fix, but the showrunners are too weak for even that. But, it's not like an absurd death imo. Valandil would not imagine that the new Prince would kill him after he surrender. So, looking at the rest of this shitshow, I give this scene a pass.
I think they have endings in mind for some of these storylines but no clue how to get there in an engaging way. The harfoot storyline? Settling the Shire probably. The stranger? He's Gandalf! Just treading water to fill out the season, it looks like.
I had to look it up lol but i think it turns out Eregion and Khazad-dum actually are right next to eachother. I feel like they could have told us that ages ago and saved me a lot of confusion! They keep using the map picture for transitions, but they never zoom out to actually show us where we are they just fly around
The show is devious - it puts you to sleep so you think you just missed something but actually you didn't. Yes. Miriel was outsted by eagle and put back by fish.
I don't know if that's meant to be Anatar's attempts at flirtation. I think she asks who he's talking about and he responds with "Lady galadriel - of course". There's no reason why "oh course" unless Sauron is fixated on Galadriel. If Temu Galadriel is basically a plot device then the point of the remark might be Sauron being besotted enough to betray his thoughts. So I just assumed it was implying that Sauron/Galadriel are still an ongoing concern and we're still doing the Reylo thing.
I'm still trying to decide if I'm convinced that Sauron has feelings for Galadriel.I was hoping the Sauron/Galadriel thing was going to slowly fade out of existence since they haven't really interacted at all this season, but I guess the showrunners are really trying to push it still.
@@JessInDreams7 If Galadriel hasn't been established as an incandescent beauty, then it would be an odd move to flatter the smith via comparison to someone else. So it seems somewhat logical that it's an indiscretion. However, trying to apply logic could be a mistake.
@@victorcates9330 It could be they're just assuming people already know Galadriel is supposed to be an "incandescent beauty" because of the lore (even though they keep constantly subverting the lore). They have been doing this a lot by making nods to the films (through quotes mostly) even though there's no reason to make nods to the films which aren't in this continuity (because the films were made by a totally different company). In addition, characters keep talking about how deceitful Sauron is and how Sauron has this pre-conceived big plan when we never actually see that on screen. Sauron's plans basically seem to be "haphazardly" thrown together, despite the fact that everyone seems to know that Sauron has some sort of "grander" plot. Again, feels like they're just assuming people know this rather than actually showing it on screen.
@@JaidynReiman If they're relying on the book or Cate Blanchett, it would help if the more immediate Galadriel's facial expressions weren't like there was a foul odor on the wind.
II can't remember the names of the second generation of Numenoreans, Ar-Pharazon's son, and Elendil's daughter. I just call them Phara-son and Missildur.
Sauron's storyline is good enough for me to keep watching. The dwarfs are good too. The Númenórean's is an actual complete disaster though. The hobbits are completely pointless. The dark wizard better be a blue wizard, if it's Saruman the writers really are as dumb as you say. Season 1 was bad. Season 2 is at least tolerable. Obviously Tolkiens middle earth is close to perfection. They don't do it justice at all. But even it being a fraction of a fraction of what it could be. It's still middle earth.
They should have written each season as a separate story, and then one season at the end to pull it together. The problem is the two showrunners don't have the skill for that, they don't have a story, so we jump from inconsequential sequence to inconsequential sequence... nothing matters, nothing has consequences, nothing ties together. It's just filler fan service and nostalgia bait, and they are not even succeeding at that.
I gave up with it too, managed ten minutes of the last episode. It's just not very good. I didn't say previously but the way they have got the Hobbits speaking Irish accent and the Dwarves Scottish and the rest unaccented apart from ridiculous affectations like the rolling R's is just a nonsense really. Thanks for your video again!
3:09 - There's been speculation that the Door isn't being used as a table but instead it's being worked on as they lace it with that invisible mythril stuff.
Honestly the best review of the series ive seen so far. Nerdrotic is a bit neurotic and everyone else just hates it. I actually wanted to hear the details of the show and judge for myself so thanks for this. Subbed.
I'm sorry you were so triggered, that your imaginary elves couldn't have eyes that look a little different. This show has no story, no logic, no flow, no pacing, no future, it has absolutely nothing in it's favour. The two white guys that are showrunning have no experience and it shows... but some of the elves have slanted eyes, that's where you draw the line. Please grow up
Scroll down any comments section about RoP and you'll start to think the writers are correct... just people regurgitating the exact same comments they read on the last video they watched
The show is complete garbage. Waited my whole life to see the 2nd age on film and they don't follow the lore at all and basically destroy Tolkiens vision. This isn't Tolkien it's modern agenda bs. It's just bad on all levels, acting, writing, everything about it. Every character including sauron make the dumbest decisions one after another. Nothing ever happens. 90 percent of the show is characters standing around arguing about things and not ever doing anything about it. Or the things they actually do are off screen. No sense of time. Can't tell it takes weeks for something to happen. It's like it's just a day when it actually took months. Or the opposite. What takes a day seems like a week. Elrond getting back to Lindon before the orc army getting to eregion is ridiculous. Durin goes back and forth from kazad dum to eregion multiple times but it seems like he's doing it so fast he's teleworking. Just horrible time management. Talking and talking and talking. It's so boring and again... it's a complete blasphemy of Tolkiens writing and lore. It deserves to be canceled. Period. If you're a true fan of lotr and Tolkiens works you'd feel the same. Horrible show in every way. Even the sets are small and unimpressive looking. Costumes look literally like cosplay. Every single thing is awful. I'm glad it's failing. Hopefully Amazon sells the rights to a platform that'll do it properly.
