Rings of Power Season 2 Trailer Hopes NUKED at SDCC 2024 

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 trailer was released at SDCC 2024. Alongside a full marketing push full of articles and interviews we find out a lot more about Rings of Power season 2. There are noticeably absent tactics from the marketing of season 1 missing from this, although sometimes the actors couldn't resist their natural inclinations. Alongside an Acolyte type push to make Sauron and Galadriel the thirst push of the season. This makes sense as the season is centered around Sauron, but is it what the viewers actually want? The hints and talk of strong independant characters are a warning sign, but also mixed morality and a psychological drama. While some of the things that were said I could get behind, it's still being made by the same people as Season 1. And so I can't have faith it'll be good, let alone actually respectful of Tolkien. How interesting that no one had any anxiety over cate Blanchette’s portrayal of Galadriel, who is an extremely powerful queen of the elves, a leader of a council of the wise, a strong “independent woman”, who was curiously enough, not an annoying, whiny, entitled victimized bint.

That "worldbuilding" line sounds hyper-rehearsed. It's like they all were given a piece of paper that said, "Just say this: 'WORLDBUILDING.'"

If someone tells me they get tempted by a villain that wants to destroy the world and everything good in it, just because he's hot, I know that person has absolutely no morals.

I cannot overstate my incandescent rage at seeing Celebrimbor, forger of the rings of power, staring straight at Halbrand (WHOM HE'S MET BEFORE) in a wig, and asking, "What am I to call you?"

Hot Sauron and Galadriel…. Poor, poor Tolkien.

It's so laughably obvious that they were given talking points. You don't get every single actor to use the phrase 'world-building' unless they were TOLD to say it. Everything about this is so laughably artificial and astroturfed.

"There's rings in this" is the new "they fly now"

God, even seeing a 5-second clip of these people is insufferable

I cried tears of joyful emancipation when Grand Admiral Galadriel assumed command of U-85 and shouted witch such conviction, "Torpedo eins und zwei, los!". Her glorious sinking of the vile minelayer USS Patriarchy was so stunning and brave I spontaneously transitioned for a 3rd time in my life.

Man... What would I give for the opportunity to just ask one question on panels like these. "Tolkien created the world with its mythology, fully realized characters. A story about eternal struggle between good and evil. He was a university professor and made his own language. And he said that evil can't create, only corrupt. You like to say that you improved upon Tolkien. What did you make in your life?" Look at all of them, english is my second language and I can use it far better to express myself...

"An evil, ancient and powerful, has returned." Yep. Sure has.

Rings of Power writers keep trying to turn a turd into chocolate cake and feeding it to people who call the rest of us who are grossed out hypocrites for not even trying the “chocolate cake”

There’s a reason fan fiction writers write fan fiction and not marketable fiction, and the amazing just demonstrated it.

Imagine you’re Bezos and these writers come into your house and take a massive, steaming dump on your expensive carpet. You throw it out and buy a new one and invite the writers over again. Who is the larger idiot in that scenario?

Funny thing, I grew up in a world where films and tv shows spoke for themselves. Actors didn't have to tell you why you should like it -you made your own mind up. Crazy, I know.

Why do you need "world building" if this show was made for fans of Lord of the Rings? Make it make sense.

The funnist part in the trailer is Galadriel, who is sbout 2500 years older then Gilgalad kneeling before him, looking like a teenager who was busted with her boyfriend in bed looking up to him and daddy Gilgalad asks her " who is this man" .I almost wet myself laughing, Galadriel all blushing and defensive.

So they've still got the ferret playing Galadriel. A face only Sauron could love. They deserve each other.

Cornishman here. The Wurzels are from Somerset, rather than Cornwall, and the accents are quite different. A Cornish accent for Tom Bombadill is still a terrible idea though. Our accent is best saved for ordering pasties.

Hollywood hasn't shown me anything that has me thinking they deserve my time, let alone my dollar.

I think the best part about these interviews is that in some case you can tell that these “actors” are fully aware that they’re in a shit show and it’s only a matter of time until Amazon has to pull the plug🔌

No one is “cross” at “powerful women”. They are just disgusted. It’s a very different reaction.

I’m still astonished there is actually going to be a second season of this “show”.

Tbf, Halbrand/Sauron was actually one of the better received characters of season 1, since they accidentally made him more based than Galadriel, and also because Charlie Vickers was one of the few capable actors. But I can certainly see the showrunners misunderstanding the response to him, thinking it's because he's a hot bad boy. I mean, there's little chance they realize how bad to mediocre some of the other actors are, or what an insufferable harpy their version of Galadriel is.

Not since 1945 has such a nuking been observed.

Imagine a guy creates an entire world, then writes a story that is absolutely amazing and goes down in history as one of the greatest, if not THE GREATEST, fictional stories of all time. And then someone comes in and goes... hey, let's make a show about it and change everything 😂

Got a pizza last night and fired up The Fellowship of the Ring (extended edition, obviously...haven't seen the theatrical versions of LOTR since, well, their theatrical releases) for the first time in maybe a year or so, and the level of quality is so shockingly high compared to ANY PART of the trash that Amazon is vomiting out on the screen in this fanfic garbage that it really provides a striking example of just how far Hollywood has fallen. They've very clearly fired all of the talented strait [sic] white men who were capable of writing, directing or producing something that is even CLOSE to the same level of quality as the LOTR trilogy, and they've replaced every single one of them with mentally ill, laughably incompetent, shockingly unintelligent and wholly undeserving DEI hires who aren't even intelligent enough to write the warning labels that are printed on every single new trash bag telling you not to let your kids play inside of one, let alone dialogue that is on the same level as what appears in every single second of the LOTR trilogy. From the first SECONDS of The Fellowship of the Ring, Cate Blanchett's voiceover is more intelligently written and beautifully delivered than LITERALLY ANY of the dialogue that appears in the entire season (and soon to be two seasons) of Amazon's fanfic trash. The drop in quality is shocking, and it doesn't just herald the decline of Hollywood. It heralds the decline of the entire Western world.

Immediately comes to mind listening to the rehearsed propaganda that is the authorized talking points from the cast, "Season 1 was mainly world building!"

Still didnt understand why they did not just call quits on this one. From what i heard is one of the most expensive mistakes from the last years.

As a working actor of 10+ years - I often find myself depressed at the thought of hitting a big gig, and falling flat with terrible writing. On one hand, you want to work... the other, keep your soul in tact. I've chosen soul. It's a slow go building a career with integrity.

So the message is that a particular guy with a particular island wouldn't had made anything wrong if he was hot enough? I see...

Bronwin isn’t out of this season due to her activism. Amazon and the media tried to push that impression with the initial announcement but then she immediately threw them under the bus with her statement that yes she was focusing more on activism but that decision had NOTHING to do with her choice to not return for the second season. She could have let them have their fantasy but was like “F that, no.”

More of the same. People who defend it with "but the orcs look great!" Yes, but you had a billion dollars. That's like having a billion dollars to build a skyscraper, and the best thing you can say is, "The door looks nice." The Elven rings being created first was so dumb. For reasons the writers will never understand. There's a reason that Sauron left those three for last. He knew the elves would he the ones to catch on quickest. They needed to be approached most cautiously. By the end of those, it was too late. These are the dumbest elves ever for 16 more rings to be distributed through the land and one ring to rule them all made without them having a clue where and how and to whom they'll be given. I believe "exasperation" would be the word we're all looking for.

Powerful women do NOT make people cross. Stupid characters on the other hand…And the show runners realize that Galadriel is supposed to be married at this point, yes?

Just like the writers of Star Wars now a days, Rings of Power suffers the same problems. Having people in charge who don't actually like the universe and actively work to destroy everything that made that universe dear to many peoples hearts. These same people can absolutely not comprehend how time/space works in either universe. They have no concept of scale or how travel works. Honestly, outside of representing people based solely on their sexual preferences, I doubt these writers have any real coherent thoughts.

I am still mad about Celebrimbor being portrayed by an regular looking elderly man, and not a dark haired elf looking like Feanor. I mean do the show runners understand nothing? Who wants to see a bunch of scenes with hot Sauron moving in with grandpa?! When the scripts is shit at least make it pleasing on the eyes.

It would be so great to just once pin these fools down as an interviewer. Even if they fire me on the spot it would be worth it. - We are all gritty, and struggle with morality - What do you mean, are you really unable to tell right from wrong?

The Guyladriel of Rings of Power is not a strong woman. She's closer to a punk, than strength. However, LOTR's Galadriel was/is a strong woman. Wise, graceful, and spiritual in a righteous sense. Everyone loved her and seeing her give gifts to all the men and dwarves and Hobbit's going off to destroy the one ring was legendary cinematography. We're not afraid of strong women, real women. We just don't like the fake ones.

Hey, they actually media trained their actors this time. Yeah, probably should have given them a few more things to say besides that the first season was about world building, but it is an actual improvement that Disney could learn from, to not insult the potential audience. Not that it will save the series since we are well aware of the competence of the writers and producers, but keeping the actors from acting like Rachel Zegler is at least one smart move. I am assuming they will be back to calling the audience bigots when it fails but at least one person did their job this time.
