I'm not going to lie, I've been contemplating getting rid of mine and getting a mk2 or early 3 even though I'm not a fan of the ecoboom. However.... Mine has 78k miles on it, to some it can be considered as poor body work due to scrapes, scratches and dents, 1 big dent and about 4 small. But something in me is saying no, something is saying bodywork, cambelt, battery and some touch up and it can be considered as a pride and joy again. Mine ain't as rusty as some of these rusty ones you've shown today. Interesting episode pal. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

I'd keep because it's always possible to stay ontop of thepaintwork long-term where as rust, on a MK1 it can spread quickly and effectively write a car off and be a potential danger if you were to have an accident, just something to consider... and at that mileage it's got so much life left in it!

Another great video. I always avoid Facebook marketplace like the plague. Definitely dodgy ads there especially the 2019 focus

I think that was the first one but strangely some decent classics were on there...

In Sweden most of the later MK1s and basically all of the MK2s are Flexifuel (Petrol/E85) models. This exploits a reduction to tax for environmentally friendly vehicles although very few ever uses E85 in their Focus. I have even seen one with a green "Focus Flexifuel" decal on the front doors which probably some demonstrators got. Did you get those in the UK?

@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
I've heard of them running on E85 in lots of countries, it's almost pure ethanol! Yes we had a 'flex-fuel' model only on the 1.8 petrol for a few years. It wasn't popular and there are less than 30 left. I've personally never seen one!

That 2019 car its either a typo on the price maybe meant to type 13k or a scam
@usuallyfixingtinkering

potentially, although I'd say a scam more likely

The mk1 now is at the stage as in the year 2 000 i was buying mk3 escorts for 250 ish quid. Tou couldn't get a mk 3 now for under 5 k in decent condition .😮

Spot on. I always use the price of escorts as an example of what will come full circle, again.

I've noticed the really good examples are now £2500 plus on auto trader. Damn maybe your predictions may happen sooner than we thought. Big shame that people neglect them. I had my thermostat and the housing replaced the other day, bad coolant leak happened. Oh and got the air con regassed, so glad I got it done, it helps a lot in the heat.
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
Great timing to have air con done! There are a lot, nice examples should be around this mark or just lower but... most of these adds are dealers and they are selling with a mark-up in mind so probably not entirely reflective but really positive to see.

Would be very careful when buying desirable modern cars as a lot of them are being clocked between mots, without no way to tell apart fron general wear on interior may look more used than the milage would suggest plus the price is always lower than it should be. Thats not to say all bargains have been clocked, just that all clocked cars are priced cheaper than expected. Also any vehicle with a digital millage can be clocked through obd port without no signs of being clocked, be carefull people as scams are quite popular unfortunatly
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
It's difficult to clock between MOT's but it is something to very aware about!
@DaleGeorge-t8n
@DaleGeorge-t8n Год назад
It takes a laptop and an obd2 port tool connector, and how its done is say the car had 10,000 miles on clock on mot then they run the car miles say to 40,000 miles then clock it back to 15,000 miles on clock put new mot then do the same again each year till its time to sell if that makes sense
@usuallyfixingtinkering

That makes sense!

Like I said always mk1 in two years will be gone from streets. Now time that rusting and people don't want do anything and after two years next batch will be gone from people who tried do something about rust. After that there will be almost only good examples left

I think so, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking at another one while I was making this bit for one thing... I just see pure money pits and lots of them because of a total lack of maintenance over 18+ years. This is a Shane because these have been great cars through their life and I can understand why many don't want to invest a few thousand in any example worth half that.

Blocking the registration is VITAL when selling a car. The chance of joe public in your area cloning your vehicle. However people online can easily find your car and colour by searching it. Id love to discuss my story with you give me a message. As indeed have been a victim.
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
That's horrible I'm very sorry to hear this! Sadly it does happen but there's nothing you can do to stop this happening, blocking out your registration can stop one way of opportunists doing this but your car can be cloned in every form (online, media or on the street or driving in traffic). You just need to provide proof that it's not your car which most can. It's very sad that we have to watch-our backs in this way.
