The guests on this album is some cats with slept on albums as well! Krumbsnatcha - "Snatcha Season Pt. 1" (one of the most underrated hip-hop albums ever made) Bumpy Knuckles (a.k.a Freddie Foxxx) has the album called "Industry Shakedown" that its another slept on album... Scarface (ex. Geto Boys) has the classic album "The Diary" that its a must listen for all hip-hop heads... The album you reacted is one of the albums that i've listened the most in my life... a friend of mine recommended thus project for me just when i first started my journey thru' the hip-hop history, and instantly the song "Work" had me stuck and my life was never be the same after this album! Preemo is not my favourite producer but this man its at least top 3 of all time, and Guru is one of the most disrespected rappers by the public, ever! I'm not saying the people don't like him or whatsoever, but people dont show the love and respect he REALLY deserves! Hip-Hop saved my life and will always save the people next door of yours in one moment if they allows it I am a youngin just like you that really felt and is passionate about hip-hop culture... Guru never really has been in any top-5 of anything conversation. But till this day he remains one of the realest MCs ever. Straight political, conscious, a message always involved, one of the most unique and recognizible voices ever. And one of the best discographies in the history of the whole genre. Plus he pioneered jazz-hip-hop subgenre which is very important for the roots of this culture.

@@SutekhDaSteemroller Guru got his own style plus he was never supposed to be a superstar because they always stayed on independent labels where they could work and make music their own way without any instructions from a label. As Preemo said, Gang Starr never had a platinum plaque but what they did have is the platinum respect across the culture. From the East all the way to Cali. From spending time with D.I.T.C. members, Pun, Biggie and Wu members to partying with Pac and Treach.

I'm hooked again on the power of Gang Starr. Wisdom, Strength, Focus, Smoothness, Realness.... This album got it all, in my opinion. Primo on the beats, this is a masterclass of production and Guru, like you said, the commander, a general on the mic. King of monotone. Was, is and will always be in my top 5. Nas, Pac, Guru, Masta Ace, Andre 3K and on it goes. Always a pleasure watching your reactions. Keep 'em coming, them classics that paved the way.

Tracks like “JFK 2 LAX” spits some of the most realest stuff ever, as well as the title track and “What I’m Here 4” - the best verse to bump on this album is Guru’s 2nd verse on “Make Em Pay” straight fire 🔥🔥

This album is truly the “Cream of the Crop.” Great review, Ahmad. Before this release, Gang Starr hadn’t dropped an album since 1994’s “Hard to Earn.” During the four-year gap from 1994 to 1998, both Guru and DJ Premier pursued different projects. Premier continued to craft high-quality, top-notch beats at an elite level, while Guru worked on Jazzmatazz Vol. 2, an album blending hip hop and jazz. Given the four-year hiatus, it could have been challenging for the duo to regain their groove. Such breaks can sometimes strain the relationship between an artist and producer, but Premier and Guru proved they hadn’t lost their touch. It’s also worth noting that Guru was dealing with a legal issue involving a gun charge during this time. If convicted, he could have faced up to five years in prison. This led to a lot of back-and-forth between the studio and the courthouse, which is why the album cover features a courthouse background. You can sense Guru’s frustration in the track “Moment of Truth,” almost as if he’s declaring that no one can take him down. Despite the challenges, this album is a classic from start to finish. It was also Gang Starr’s first album to go gold.

You should try Big L he’s on par with Nas Lyrically, he has 9 albums with only 2 on Spotify (rest on RU-vid) he has “Lifestylez ov da poor & dangerous” “The Big Picture” “return of the devils son” “139 and Lenox” “the danger zone” “devils son ep” “harlems finest a freestyle history” “harlems finest a freestyle history - volume 2” “the archives 1996 - 2000” it’s a REALLLLY good listen

Kc & jojo( jodeci) are the ones killin it on royalty.Real hip hop heads know gangstarr is one of the greatest duos to ever do in hip hop.imo this album is on the same level as illmatic, the chronic, ready to die,all eyes on me 36 Chambers ect. There isn't a bad track on it and I think it's their best album they ever put together. Plus guru was going through possibly facing jail time and drinking way too much booze and they took about a 8-month hiatus about 3-4 songs into making the album cuz guru had to get sober and finish up his legal troubles. And they put together a masterpiece!

The natural progression from this is Jeru the damaja wrath of the math album. Another Premier produced joint. You covered come clean but his next full album was a true gem. That frustrated N goes so hard.

One of my fave albums, incredible production by Premo at his peak IMO and Guru came through with the lyrics and voice of course. This is probably their best album.

Apparently both Deck and Guru walked into the booth not knowing what each other was rapping about in Above the clouds. If that’s true, best rap song made to date.

Guess you're going to have to review DWYCK so that you can hear where that 'Sure Shot' sample comes from.

Ahmad, there is an alternate version of "In Memory Of" (the last track) called "Illest Man" by Guru. It samples "(You Are My) All In All" by Joyce Sims and appears on the soundtrack for The 6th Man. Worth a listen if you have the time.

@KingAhmadTV Who's better Gang Starr or Eric B & Rakim? Personally I like both but if I had to pick one Gang Starr because of Guru's Rhymes and Premo's phenomenal production.
