This happened to a few people I knew on 9/11. I was supposed to be doing a job interview down the road from the Pentagon and saw the plane fly over when I was stuck in traffic. They called me and told me not to come and I bought this album on the way home right before the malls closed down for the next few days. It didn't save my life but I was sure glad I had it that week. The Hov/Nas beef kept things from getting straight up depressing during that time.

Most of the tracks on this album produced by Kanye West and Just Blaze were originally meant for Ghostface Killah, but when Jay-Z heard them beats, he basically told them “nah, these joints is too 🔥 for me not to spit some shit on’em.” I always imagine what would have become of those tracks if Ghostface would have gotten a hold of’em, because those soulful beats were Ghostface’s chamber right there. That era Ghostface would have fit right in with alot of those tracks too. Him and Just Blaze hooked up later tho for some fire shit.

People's Court is hard AF. The way he flipped the beat from the TV show and all the metaphors is insane.

I hadn't heard that Jigga song in i don't know how long. Now i remember why. What was he thinking? And why'd you have to bring it back? Still a classic album. Great job reviewing man! Keep it going!!!

I agree with you; Jigga that N was the only bad spot on the album. I definitely wish that wasn’t on it. I’m from the U.K. and we had “Girls, Girls, Girls Part 2” as a bonus track after Lyrical Exercise. I don’t know if that was the case with other releases, or may have been removed due to sample clearance, but it is a dope track!

The Jigga My Nigga track was a mixtape and street banger when it came out, It dropped months before the album came out and was on a Rough Riders compilation album because it was produced by Swizz Beats he added it as a bonus.

This is definitely a classic album. I had the extra benefit of this coming out my freshman year in college. It leaked like a week or two early, we all had access to high speed internet (probably for the first time in our lives), and we hit the file sharing apps heavy. So it was the soundtrack to my whole first semester. You picked the two songs that most people didn't like. I actually like Hola Hovito, but a lot of people didn't. We all agree that That Ni**a Jigga should've been left off the album. Idk if you plan on going through Jay's whole discography, but the You Don't Know remix with MOP on Blueprint 2? Just Blaze somehow managed to make that beat even better. Fun fact, RZA said You Don't Know was the one beat he wished he made himself. Also, Renegade was originally Eminem & Royce da 5'9". You might enjoying reacting to that. Em's verses don't change (besides when he mentions Jay at the end of the first verse), though

Eminem was a producer on renegade as well and Jay's second verse on that song was outstanding. Nas is my favorite rapper but we all know he was exaggerating on the diss and it was an effective diss

Bro I’m from Detroit too and when this came out it was super debated. When I was younger I thought Em got him but when I got older and listened to it I felt it was way closer than I thought. That second verse from Jay is my favorite verse from him on that track. This whole album such a classic. You right though I was never a big fan of Jigga that Nigga lmao Much respect lil bro I just discovered your channel but I’m fuckin wit it. #JoyRoad
