Drogue chute not drone chute. It is a parachute meant to begin slowing the craft and stabalizing it for the main chute to be able to then open saftely. Pretty much the same kind of chute you see used on drag racing cars to slow them down after a run.

KSP is one of the best teaching programs for orbital mechanics ever made. It turns real world rocket science into something that's fun and entertaining. My son figured out what he would have to do to get a rocket into orbit by the time he was 6 or so.

I can't clap for Jeb. He's suffering a fate worse than death. Getting his flight reset to launch over and over again until finally every Ksp 1 Player has switched to Ksp 2. And I can't wash my hands of this sin, for I have also reverted the flight back to launch.

The physics are real, just with some of the pointier corners sanded down. For examples, Martincitopants mentions that the home planet is MUCH smaller than Earth, and you don't have to account for the weight of astronaut poops. Otherwise it would be so weighted with hard maths that it would be as approachable as doing your taxes.

Yes, the physics are programmed to follow real-life physics. Also, I believe it is pronounced: Martin-seetoh-pants.

to elaborate on centrifugal force, it technically DOES exist, but only as what is known as an _inertial_ force - meaning that it only applies to objects in motion, and a specific kind of motion at that: spinning. this is not the same as a fundamental force, like electromagnetism - so some people have taken to referring to such forces as "fictitious" or "pseudo" forces. the problem is that gravity - which is almost universally referred to as a force - is also inertial, as it only exists as a result of the curvature of spacetime, as described by Einstein in his General Theory of Relativity. this being the case then, to quote Isaac Arthur: "saying that centrifugal force isn't real, but that gravity is, is a bit like saying that a person's shadow isn't real, but their reflection in a mirror is."

Proxima Centauri is the closest star system to earth, not quite sure if they've found any exoplanets around there yet... apart from that *^shrug**

Proxima Centauri B does apparently exist thou scientist are bickering about it if it exists or was that D

2 confirmed, and 1 possible. One of them (Proxima Centauri b) orbits in the star's Goldilocks zone and has a mass just slightly more than Earth's. Before you get excited: Proxima is a flare star, and probably bakes it with radiation quite often. Also, its orbit is so small (1/10 of Mercury's) that it is almost certainly tidally-locked.

so centrifugal force is the force of the planet. so you have the force from centripetal but also the path of force. so when you spin a bottle on a rope you would get the feeling like the tea cup ride but if you let the bottle go it wont go straight away from the rope it will go slightly in the spin direction. this is the real force the force that would happen in a vacuum. the force that launches the bottle straight away from the rope is from the planets gravity not the rope and bottle. keep in mind I may be wrong about this as i learned this from hearing my uncle talk about it (a physics prof) so there many be a way space changes it that wasn't talked about or i misunderstood what he said but that's my take on it.

KSP´s physics is not exactly "real", that would require computing power that is probably beyond any machine you could own, relativity is apparently hard to calculate in real time, or something. So in the end KSP uses, I believe some newtonian approximation and thanks to modern computing it is accurate enough to make the game work and feel right. But "real" physics is not on the table at the moment for any of our sim-games. Still, KSP is good enough to make you understand the basics of orbital mechanics, even if you know exactly nothing about the topic, so that´s a pretty good achievement, if you ask me. Oh and also, in the base game without mods the planets are far smaller in mass and volume than the real life planets they are conceptualy based on. Kerbin for example is about 1/10 of our lovely earth. This is done to simplify gameplay a bit and also if you scale down everything you probably dont need as much computing power.

the Kerbol system as a whole is smaller as the game was initially developed with all the floating/double/single point whatever the hell for physics and range and shit centered around Kerbol, in fact, if our solar system was superimposed on top of the kerbol system, everything would fit within Earth's orbit and Jool would be roughly the same size as Earth

In terms of orbital mechanics, centripetal force (the force pulling the craft down) is, of course, gravity. Centrifugal force is imaginary - there is no force pulling spacecraft up to counter gravity. In order to maintain a constant altitude, they have to go sideways fast enough that the ground falls out from under them at the same rate that gravity pulls them down.
