Henry David Thoreau was a libertarian, this band had outspoken socialist leanings, they would have had polar opposite views of the role of government lol
@@auklin7079 If I would be born as an american this days I would also hide my mind. Never know who surveillance you if it's not your'e own contry. Love from germany :).
Rise Against songs always have these deeply ethical discussions in the comment section. Good to see that people can discuss some things in a more decent way.
Except it's the spoiled losers rioting instead of people who are actually downtrodden. The poorest people in the U.S. are still richer than most of the world.
Because of the message. No one wants to hear about how fucked our governments are, administration after administration. Some stupid mother fuckers today just want to bury their heads in the sand and twerk.
I've gotta say that punk is not about having a mohawk, earrings or being an "Anarchist"... Punk is standing up against something that wrong! Thank you Rise Against for opening my eyes!
@@skullthunder3181 being an anarchist means being against the all systems of hierarchy. That's why we want to abolish state as an oppressive tool. It's not just about "abolishing the state" though, that kind of shallow thinking is what breeds stupid shit like "anarcho" capitalism. Bunch of idiots. So, at the core of the thought, I believe, anarchism means being against everything that's wrong. That means being against patriarchy, capitalism, state, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, ecocide, and all kinds of wrongs caused by social hierarchies that are oppressive and and destructive. Anarchism is not chaos
"those who make a peaceful revolution impossible make a violent revolution inevitable." -JFK In 2021 it's so more true than ever. I started listening to these guys from a friend at age 12, his name was Collyn. THANK YOU for sharing this song with me. I heard it for the first time over 11 years ago now. Hope you are well if you ever come across this comment and see it.
To the sound of a heartbeat pounding away To the rhythm of the awful rusted machines We toss and turn but don't sleep Each breath we take makes us thieves Like causes without rebels Just talk but promise nothing else We crawl on our knees for you Under a sky no longer blue We sweat all day long for you But we sow seeds to see us through 'Cause sometimes dreams just don't come true We wait to reap what we are due To the rhythm of a time bomb ticking away And the blare of the sirens combing the streets Chased down like dogs we run from Your grasp until the sun comes up We crawl on our knees for you Under a sky no longer blue We sweat all day long for you But we sow seeds to see us through 'Cause sometimes dreams just don't come true Look now at what they've done to you White needles buried in the red The engine roars and then it gives But never dies 'Cause we don't live We just survive On the scraps that you throw away I won't crawl on my knees for you I won't believe the lies that hide the truth I won't sweat one more drop for you 'Cause we are the rust upon your gears We are the insect in your ears We crawl We crawl We crawl... all over you We sow the seeds to see us through Our days are precious and so few We all reap what we are due Under this sky no longer blue We bring the dawn long over-due We crawl We crawl We crawl... all over you
I think many people misunderstand the meaning of the video. It's not encouraging terrorism or chaos at all, rather it's saying that government negligence, corruption and other bullshit could eventually lead to the tragic ending of the video, a situation that no one wants. Basically telling the government to sort their shit out before things get to this horrific and extreme example.
Totally. It's highlighting all the fucked up things we'd rather spend money on: the military, saving companies like Exxon, and lining the pockets of the pieces of shit that ruin this world. It's a call to action; for peaceful protest and civil disobedience.
It's crazy how this song is a decade old and still completely accurate of the situation of poverty and injustice in American ghetto's... I don't understand how not a single person in a position of political power hasn't been pressured enough to fix anything
It's pretty simple..."what's in it for me?" The vast majority of people are selfish. Figure out how to sell them something that they need or want and you'll lift yourself out of poverty.
Simple answer. It is not someone else's job to fix it but your own. If you are counting on the government to fix it that is the same as a cow taking in more feed before they become steak. Nothing has ever been earned the easy way. Strong people create good times. Good times create weak people. Weak people create bad times. Bad times create strong people. This has been the way for all of history.
They should release a re-cut of this music video where everything is the same, only the statistics are updated. The disparity has done nothing but grow over the past decade.
That would be neat, though there's probably some risk of getting in trouble now if you release a "new" music video that appears to condone domestic terrorism
well yes that´s true, and unfortunately in these crisis times (Corona-Pandemic, Climate-Crisis), it´s not only the rich getting richer, the poor becoming poorer, BUT the whole bloddy thing just accelerated. poor people are worst hit by the crisis, while Bezos and Co. gained unbelievable amounts of profit. Capitalism is at its end and it won´t change through reforms and voting! For a social revolution worldwide!
While I agree with the song and MOST of its messages some are unfortunately scientifically refutable and there is evidence that supports some of the analytics displayed in this video are either flat out wrong or completely fabricated. The earth had five previous mass extinction events by various means most by things humans had no hand in creating or making worse meaning they were a natural event. We are not immune to a sixth mass extinction event we just had a bigger hand in this one. Current global government is a problem no doubt but as a group we citizens far outnumber them they have purposefully divided us on the key societal fault lines ie race religion gender culture ethnicity age politics geographical location and financial class to our own detriment, we allowed the governments and all media to minipulate and influence us not only in division but our ability to communicate our issues peacefully amongst ourselves. So who is really to blame the politicians and global industrialists or ourselves for ELECTING THEM and giving too much to the interests of the wealthy industrialists to control EVERYTHING. There's plenty of blame to go around but it will not stop the inevitable future that WE are ALL complicit in bringing down on all the species of earth. Like the dinosaurs we had our shot and we blew it, big time.
@@jericho1-4 the problem isn't that cycle occurring. The problem is humans affecting the process so badly, we've reversed course, and then accelerated it 100.000% I wish that were an exaggeration, literally 1000x as fast as it should happen, which means none of the organic life affected can adapt.
***** With a good education you'd know that smugness and name calling do not an argument make. These "facts" are easily twistable statistics speaking in broad generalizations.
That's why i listen to them and Linkin Park, too :) I hate the songs, which are just about sex and the other good things in a relationship. But i dont like that the have to destroy everything in their videos... Lucks a bit like "Kill everyone who does that" to other people, who dont listen to the Lyrics (not me, but the most other, i know)
I'm starving for change everyday. I'm Navajo and live on the reservation. But I can't live the life I want to, where I can recycle and buy fresh vegetables... I work full time at the hospital. It just, sucks.....
I hear you. It must be hard to be working in a hospital right now. Cases rise as the state does fuck all to stop the spread, especially in poor and Indigenous communities. Solidarity ✊
@@KelikNSG2 It's super stressful. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't. Especially on the reservation. We just recently went back to Code Orange. It just sucks....
Rise Against taught me to stand up to those that make the decisions and fight back against those blind of truth. Thank you Rise Against because of you I am not one of the sheep in a herd.
Human. A little earlier in the song, he mentions how the wealthy elites, corporate media and politicians make it out to be that we the people are the fucking leeches "we are the rust upon your gears, we are the insects in your ears, we crawl all over you".
I am completely and utterly convinced that humanity is going to destroy the world if the majority does not change their ways. I'm trying to change my ways myself, when I start living on campus next year I'm taking on vegetarianism, I don't drive, I have sworn off violence unless it is self defense, and I support human, and I mean all human, rights. I want to go into activism, I'm just not sure how.
damn! hearing this as a teen it's not the same until you grow up and experience it for yourself, it hit different today in 2023!, Thanks for being our voice!
You sometimes don’t really like a group but sometimes you hear a song that really hits and now you want to go back and see what I was missing. Am a fan now and look forward to the new stuff!!
This band truly is amazing. I've been looking at the modern pop music in today's music industry for a long time, as in, ever since Bieber and Manaj came in. Their repetitive lyrics and music always drive me over the edge to considering how it just seems to fuel my generation's ignorance. I'm thirteen and this is the type of band I've been looking for for a long time, ever since I gave up on the newer LP songs. This song alone shows the reality of how not only the U.S.' politicians and people are falling into their own inevitable destruction, but of other nations. I'll really be looking forward to listening to these guys!
It is kind of about that. More it's a critique of capitalism and how workers are just exploited as pawns for giant corporations and their owners. This can be very soul draining, speaking as someone that has worked in factories before. But anyone in the working class can feel that really. It's also about how capitalism is literally destroying the earth and leading to mankinds doom. Pollution, over-consumption etc.
Say Who? Really liking your feedback. In my view, Rise Against is like the next generation Rage Against the Machine. Not as aggressive as Rage Against the Machine was, yet they do write similar songs with similar material.
This song is relevant now in 2024 more than ever. WE THE PEOPLE need to stand up and stop letting corporations, billionaires, religious zealots, and downright awful people who don't care whether we live or die have control over major aspects of our lives. THEY CAN'T STOP US IF *US* IS *ALL* *OF* *US* !!
This video has so much power. I love Rise Against and hate how few people can accept reality and not look away. If only everyone would do just a small step in the right direction so much could change.....
If you knew anything about communism you wouldn't be posting that communist fist. Communism will only lead to an already oppressive government centralizing MORE authority over the population is that what you want? Don't be ignorant, I fight for the freedom for the right for man to govern themselves, not for an authoritarian regime. If you didn't know that, study up on the Russian and Chinese Communist revolution and get educated
Sweet Jesus this actually motivates me to do something in the world. Hell, when I am older and have money I know I can make a difference. As a 17 year old girl living at home with no job, I'm not sure what to do... i wish I could meet them and just have them help me on figuring that out.
This is the sort of video that my friends and I discuss a lot while we're hanging out. Its definitely a bad idea at times but I'm glad videos like this one exist.
Always loved this song, first time I saw the video. Now I love it even more lol. Kids are gonna find this in 30 years and be like, you guys knew this was happening and didn't do anything?? sigh...
People always talk a big game, yet when the time rises no one does anything and that pisses me off. People blame shit on something or someone instead of trying to fix it. Instead of everyone in the comments hating on the U.S. or whatever, WHY DON'T WE TRY TO CHANGE IT?!?!?!?!? That's the point of this song, is to make a change, yet people still do nothing, and if they DO do something, it's very minimal. Rise Against is right with this song, so I say we take these facts that they've put into this video and use this as a refrence point to MAKE A CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish we could but to the Government we are just a number. They don't give a shit about anyone but there goddamn money and themselves. Oh yeah and making us regret our lives. I wish we could but they could just kill us. Honestly they could make us disappear and make money illegally and get away with it, then give it to the people to say we were never born and bribe everyone. We're not even the USA WE ARE THE UNUNITED STATES OF EMBARRASSMENT. *I think that's how you say it* people try but I wish we could. If there was a way I would LOVE to know...
+The Fabulous Nadia it makes me cry and i try to help the people because there's nothing else to do... So I keep my friends and family alive by keeping them happy. I mean society is a piece of shit and it makes ppl depressed and that's what I help with. Yes I get depressed but I try and try. So I guess that's all what we could do. Even famous people like them tried... You know what happens? People become MORE SANE because they understand what the fuck is happening... So there. *plus Eminem makes stuff like this but in a different genre so it's in all genres so more and more ppl find it
Theresa Presley The corrupt government is the problem. We have the Bill of Rights and the Constitution and all of that so that we can keep the government in check, and that's our job. So let's DO OUR JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This band is brilliant and too see the lyrics play out is crazy, this song literally is telling us "watch the government is gonna fuck u"and it did!best band ever hands down they're lyrical geniuses in my opinion
"Anarchy wears two faces, both creator and destroyer. Thus destroyers topple empires; make a canvas of clean rubble where creators then can build another world. Rubble, once achieved, makes further ruins' means irrelevant. Away with our explosives, then! Away with our destroyers! They have no place within our better world. But let us raise a toast to all our bombers, all our bastards, most unlovely and most unforgivable. Let's drink their health... then meet with them no more.” Graphic Novel original of V for Vendetta by Alan Moore
Everyone commenting about how it's crazy how this video is still applicable... Of course it is. Nothing has changed. Nothing has gotten better. The ills spoken of in this video are inherent to the current political/economic system. None of the reform you've seen put into place has ameliorated these problems - and it won't. This is how the system works, and that's the point of the video.
Ok...pretty much the only thing I've been listening to for the past week or two was Rise Against. I think the only way I can get out of this is by finding another band that I think is better...but...I don't think I can...
How about A Perfect Circle, I know same singer as Tool, but also very deep songs and svenne is right you're not listening hard enough if you don't like Tool.
The dairy industry is STRUGGLING now. People are waking up! The numbers may have gone up, but the demand for dairy has gone WAY DOWN. They only survive based on every increasing government subsidies that steal your taxes to artificially and communistically keep a dying industry alive. Join the fight now and stop the unjust killing of animals for our tastebuds! The dairy industry will fall before any of the others, much thanks to movies like "Dominion (2018)" and "What the Health" that target people's false perceptions and educated people about what's really required to produce dairy products. Buy OAT MILK or RICE MILK or any of the dozen milk substitutes instead. No cruelty involved, MUCH lower carbon footprint, MUCH cheaper to make so the price will fall much lower than dairy as demand increases etc. Also it's better for you!
One of the best songs and videos in youtube, I love this shit. btw why the hell there's even a censored and uncensored version? I like this version better.
It's not like Rise Against is the greatest band today....oh, wait...what am I saying???? They ARE the greatest band today. At 55, I have seen a lot of bands live. From The Eagles, Grateful Dead, Thin Lizzy and Blue Öyster Cult in the 70s to Linkin Park, Disturbed, Motörhead and Volbeat in recent years, no one, I mean NO ONE is as consistently great as Rise Against. (okay, Thin Lizzy was close)
***** Thanks fopr the tip. A bit more pop than Rise Against, but definitely worth listening to. Plus, they have several albums on Amazon Prime so I can listen for free.
midnight_storm_(vǫrðr) Your reading comprehension is shallow. Do you even read the posts before you post? Think about the fact that not every piece of information was in a post? Think about the fact someone could have a favorite genre although listens to other genres? I was probably listening to "classical music", as well as show tunes, opera, and folk (to name just a few) before you were born. The fact you differentiate and list several different obscure music genres, yet still refer to "Classical music" without mentioning the various genres, indicates that you are ignorant that there even is a difference. Compare Albinoni (Barock) to Mahler (late-Romantic) to get an idea of just how different "classical" is.
Gerard Way is life when it comes down to it their are so many ways to create it so perhaps it will cost perhaps it will create jobs either way the worlds fine in that aspect were just lazy fucking cunts
i am so in into your songs, its like your letters come into my mind before i know you rise against. i listen to your songs last year first time :) you have soul in all songs i feel it....
Just in case anyone's sceptical, I'm a marine sciences major with a concentration in conservation, and this is all true. What you tend to see on the news are conservative (descriptor, not the party) estimations, but without immediate and radical change we will see irreversible damage to the world around us, and we'll see it from the death toll. Hell i mean, we've already seen it, we just have such a short collective memory we know that we've seen it. The west never had a Fire Season, they had summer, and occasionally had Bad Summers where fires happened. That's how the conifer tree life cycle works, after all, but mind you, those trees had time to grow to Maturity and to seed before they burned. That doesn't happen now. Fire rates and intensity increased so slowly over the past hundred years that no one outside the area saw a different. Like frogs in a pot in became the new normal. And the east? Well noreasters *used* to be intense storms that dropped a lot of snow. They're still intense, because they drop more trees than fucking hurricanes, but now if you're within 50 miles of the ocean you'd be damned to see more than a foot or two of snow all winter. Like, pre-industrial revolution the Hudson River would completely freeze between Manhattan and Brooklyn every year, and the ice industry there Thrived, mind you, thats brackish water, do you know how cold MOVING brackish water has to be to freeze? The answer is VERY. But these days, if that river freezes its treated like it must be an unbearably cold winter, a freak event, rather than one winter out of a dozen where the temperature is where it *should* be. This is our world changing before our eyes, but we still can't see it, apparently.
