Omg this is the best one so far. I really like what you did with not making Lucus 2 not a full-on clone but a connected second version of Lucus. That was awesome. Oh man listening to these makes me feel more and more that you should be righting adventure books for kids. This is better than any of the Harry Potter or Percy Jackson books, in my oh so humble opinion. Actually no, nvm, this would get any parent hooked along with their kids. This schadenfreude, which seems so alien and abominable when we see it in others often feels “natural” and even “justified” when we experience it ourselves. My reaction to the screams of the Black Eagle soldiers was not a pang of empathy, but a relief that bordered on exhilaration: relief that the townspeople would no longer be harmed by them, and also a certain satisfaction that they themselves would experience what they had inflicted upon others.
I had to stew on this episode for a while because of my mixed feelings but ultimately this is another solid 8/10. Let's be fair, 1 point lost for Merry Weather again being teased but hasn't reappeared. The rest of the plot followed what I thought would happen with them using the paintbrush, but in a "accidental" way. There might be a bit too much railroading going on, which is good for pacing, but nott good for actual character development, but there's already a set up for a much bigger conflict. I do trust the author, so I'm going to reserve judgement on how I feel until next chapter. I am starting to be concerned that the author might not how to write interesting female characters, because the ones that show up are pretty stereotypical but serviceable to the plot.
I really thought the princess was going to turn out to be Merryweather (sp), that her purple hair had been a disguise of sorts, and that somehow the changes of puberty coupled with the change in hair color had fooled even Lucus's discerning artist's eye, perhaps because he was distracted by being chased.
20:00 fat man broke my immersion.. like as weak as the other prissoners were.. he wasn't just taking the food from Lucus but all of them.. he can try occupy a Korner for some "safty" but would need to sleep. I just saying that he'll be blinded or dead after the second sandwich.
Same, the fat man in a crowded cell would've been flooded by a bunch of hungry and desperate people. But I also get that the people in the cell might've been afraid of being killed by the black eagle if a fight broke off inside a cell at that proportion so I'm not 100% sure if it doesn't fit
