02:33 Why I’m not worried
04:51 Ways to improve efficiency
05:14 Why to ditch the stitch count rule
06:08 Final thoughts
We begin this episode by breaking down the main reasons why the price of thread has increased so dramatically in the past few years. Henry discusses everything from rising inflation to supply chain issues, growing demand for custom apparel, and everything in between. Along the way, Henry also examines how much the price of thread has increased, so you get a better idea of how much you'll need to spend moving forward.
Afterward, Henry explains why he’s not worried about the increasing price of thread. He supports his belief with data about how much the increase actually breaks down to per 1,000 stitches of thread. He talks about how thread and other input costs for embroidery are relatively negligible compared to other apparel decoration methods, which is part of why it’s such an attractive business.
Then, Henry discusses other, more effective ways to save money when running your embroidery business, like getting better or faster equipment. This allows you to increase productivity and profitability. He also reminds you to ditch the ineffective stitch count rule when pricing your embroidery, and provides you with a more effective pricing formula. To wrap up, he gives some final takeaway thoughts to help you understand the rising price of thread and how it might affect your business.

Doing the math doesn't make it any easier for some of the little guys, since they need the money, first, to get enough of the materials before seeing the profits. The price hikes affect the really small businesses, start-ups and/or hobbyists, who used to be able to allocate enough money to purchase, say, 20 cones/colors, but now can only afford to purchase 8-10 of them. Yes, the profits are still there to make; it's just getting the cones, to start being able to see those profits. We don't EMB yet, but this goes for any industry.

Yes if I have a fixed expense then you are right. But in real life if the trash increases by 40% so as bobbins backings employee expenses and most important of all cost of living.. which at that point that 2 cents per thousand stitch it becomes very painful.

I absolutely agree for basic colors yes, the cost is justifiable but if you run a multi head and have one off customers who want unique or rarely used colors it adds up to be a substantial burden fast. Thread goes bad and having to buy 6 cones at ten dollars a piece plus shipping eats the entire profit of the job. Colors like pink rarely move in our shop.

Love the way you broke it down so we don’t worry BUT 🤫 keep it down, these manufacturers & suppliers will find another reason to bring it up in price per cone with your figures given to the public like that 😂 sooooo shhhhhhhhhhhhhh please!!!!

Excellent content. Your other video on how to price your embroidery is the best out there. It has helped me to reassess my process and pricing. I bought my Ricoma MT 1501 one year ago. I love this machine! My investment was made for the future potential not for current business as I’m just getting started and learning. I appreciate all your tips and sharing your knowledge. My future goal is to grow my business to get a 2 or 3 head machine from Ricoma. Support is the best and the machine was very easy to learn. Thank you so much!

HI Henry, I just watched your video and noticed as well an offer from Otto for embroidery thread at a 1.75 dollars less than ISacord of mdeyra. My question is, how can we better integrate these suppliers into Chroma Lux? I looked up Otto on the color chart and it is not there…. Can i request this feature?
