Risking my Life in Puerto Rico's Most Abandoned Water Park (and a little q&a)

AHHH - my family spent an afternoon at the beach next to that park in late October and a sweet beautiful rust colored mama dog came right to us and spent the afternoon with us! She was clearly nursing pups. Whenever anyone walked from the beach toward the strip in front of the water park, she'd run that way. I followed her one time and could hear puppy whimpers, but didn't want to spook her by getting too close. I'm sure she's the same one you saw. She was so sweet - wish we could have done more than give her a snack and fresh water, but we flew back to NJ the next day.

Hi there Lau. I'm nearing 70 years. Just to tell you, I used to go there, when it was only an olympic swimming pool, with diving boards in the 1960's. There is also Las Cucharas Prison in that area. Be careful, and don't forget the chinitos ice cream in Ponce's main plaza. Try the Parcha, and Almendra. Delicious.

Omg I went there in 1984 that was so much fun. And I know seeing this video and in the condition it is very hard to believe. So sad such a fun family place ❤

I think it's possible that one of the cell phone or communications companies is renting space there; that could be the reason for the generator and the airconditioners, which are probably keeping the equipment cool. I noticed in two parts of the video a tower that looks outfitted with communications equipment. Before moving to Puerto after Hurricane Maria, I used to live on St. Thomas, my home island; my neighbor there got into repairing and collecting generators after hurricane Marilyn. He had a friend who worked for AT&T, and sometimes he'd visit some of the tower sites, which had always generators because of the towers' locations and how often the power grid would experience power outages.

The power is powering the antenna which is probably a radio antenna or something like that, it’s locked because that area is under the antenna.

At 40:00, that used to be the wave pool. That's where most people went.

Spent a lot of time there because of the race track (drag strip) that was part of that complex, which sits right behind the water park, it also had a hotel next to the track. There were plans of taking the waterpark out after it stopped operating and using that space for the drag strip. I remember that story of the person falling off that slide, there was also a murder I believe in 2010, while a race was being held. The drag strip was the last thing that was being used from that complex. There's a bunch of versions as to why it closed down, I'm not going to post that on here, too much to type anyway. I was at least able to be there for the last race that was held there, that was I'd say 2014 - 2015 I'd have to look at the dates of the photos I took that day. Lot's of cool memories in that place! The place also had an area that served as a pub, not sure if that's where you went in first, hard to tell since everything is so torn down. It's unfortunate that the place ended up like that because when it first opened the expectations were very high, it was a very ambitious project.

Thanks for another great explore I really enjoyed it Laura, however you did give me a slight panic attack on that last slide, I'm not afraid of heights as I used to do rock-climbing and other dangerous stuff, you wouldn't have got me walking on that sketchy concrete though!😱😂, I'm glad you made it down safely in one peice😅, The other tower with the telecommunications system on top is for radio and WiFi signals, and I assume the air-conditioning is probably for data server's to keep them cool, there maybe even an emergency broadcasting system in there too?🤔, it had a n FCC sign on there so who knows what else they're upto probably collecting all our data?🤔🤣😂, Anyways glad you made it out safely takecare Laura!😊💜✌️

People are driving slow because they just opened this new beach there called "Isla Sea Park" and its hard to get to and since its new people are looking for the entrance. My grandmother live next to that area in El Tuque the largest barrio in P.R. I also live in Ponce but now in La Cachete.

Just a little bit of advice, when you use your spirit box app on your phone then you should turn your airplane mode on on your phone because your phone listens to everything you say that’s why you get all advertisements for stuff . But if you turn on your airplane mode, then your phone cannot listen to you.

Part of slide flew off when the hurricane hit first Maria then Fiona plus the earthquake. My daughter studied in Ponce in that time and we had to go by there every day

Hey Laura, Love your videos. BTW that bldg with the antennas is a telecom comunications bldg(painted diiffrent color), Cell phone service. The generator supplies power to the bldg. The lights on in bldg is an active workshop of some sort, porto-potties. You're there on Sun, probably active Mon-Fri. Be carefull out there. You are a gutsy lady. Al - Ocala Fl

Really love that abandoned water park! It reminds me of the abandoned water park I wanted to check it out in California on my way to Vegas several years ago. I did tried to go there once but ended up the car being stuck in the Sandy hill for a minute. Then I decided to not risk it in a hot weather and continued heading to Las Vegas 😂 Great video!

The accident of the abandoned water park was caguas. I used to go years ago to the racetrack. It was very nice because it had a beautiful view and fresh air. So sad it’s abandoned. The owner is from Lajas. I go through that part of Ponce twice a week. I heard about the accident, I think someone drowned the problem is that when things like that happen the insurance goes up really high and it’s not cost efficient to keep the park open. That happened to plaza acuática to that’s why they closed

La torre tiene antenas de celular, los equipos nuevos que viste en el piso de la torre, son antenas nuevas que parece que van a montar. Eso parece una nueva instalación de red celular y por eso hay electricidad y hay generador 😎

Please don’t go alone to those places in PR. Take a friend. You’re brave, we know it…but don’t be naive. And also protect yourself with jeans, boots, sunscreen and off ( mosquito repellent) . You may also have some water and snacks with you. Bring also a lighter and some pen an paper)

Laura i am 15 minutes away from that abandoned water park and I never thought that someone had the courage or daring to do what you did especially in the last water slide what you did was amazing I tell you as eng but please don't do it again. Saludos, el parque acuatico abandonado donde asesinaron dos jóvenes es en Caguas, el antiguo Moisty Water Park, hasta donde se ahí gracias a Dios nunca ha pasado algo así, es una pena que El Tuque esta así, tenia parque acuatico, pista de carreras de autos, hotel y un balneario. Todo un desperdicio

I've never seen that place! Is very big! The communication antenna pays $10,000 monthly to the owner of the place for the installation there. There are many in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

That antenna is being use as a cell phone tower. You could get fried approaching too close.

Ahí en Ponce en los 70 un vecino mio murió ahogado desde entonces cerraron....trataron d abrirlas para los 90 ..pero no prospero...

Like I mentioned before in you Chanel I grew up in Ponce,when I left in 1987 the water park was not there, they had just re opened the beach and the swimming pool were we used to go after training at El Coliseo Gym, haha you know we were in our late teens so we used to get a pump and then go show off and try to pick up girls at the pool hahaha! When the water park opened I was already living in Los Angeles for a few years.

i’m sure someone commented. The tower is a cell phone tower that’s being powered by a generator has nothing to do with the waterpark. The owners of the waterpark are renting space out to a cell phone company
