Mewing is a facial exercise that involves positioning the tongue against the roof of the mouth and mimicking sucking or swallowing motions. Proponents of mewing claim it can improve jawline definition, reduce wrinkles, and achieve a more youthful appearance. However, there is little scientific evidence to support these claims, and some experts warn that mewing could lead to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, headaches, and even teeth misalignment. If you are considering trying mewing then be aware of the risks, what you can use instead and what to look out for so that mewing doesn't harm your teeth.

Is mewing really all it's cracked up to be? While the internet is buzzing with claims of a sculpted jawline and a magically transformed face thanks to mewing, there's a surprising lack of scientific backing. Could this trendy mewing technique actually be doing more harm than good? Here's the million-dollar question: are the potential risks of mewing, like TMJ pain or messed up teeth, worth the unsubstantiated promises of facial remodeling? And how long would you even need to mew to see any kind of results, if any at all? With so much conflicting information swirling around, is there even a safe way to mew, or is the whole practice best left avoided altogether?

Is mewing dangerous or potentially harmful?
Could mewing backfire and cause jaw problems instead of fixing them?
Is the pressure from mewing strong enough to actually move teeth, and if so, will it move them in a desirable way?
Are there any risks associated with improper tongue posture during mewing?
Can mewing lead to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction and headaches?
Is there a chance mewing could negatively impact speech patterns?
Since there's limited research, is mewing more hype than actual benefit?
For those with existing dental issues, could mewing exacerbate those problems?
Is any potential change in facial appearance due to mewing permanent, or would it disappear once stopped?
Are there any age limitations or health conditions that make mewing inadvisable?
Who should you consult with before attempting mewing to ensure it's safe for you?
Mewing itself likely isn't inherently harmful, but there are downsides to consider:
No Proven Benefits: There's no scientific evidence that mewing actually achieves what it claims, like jawline improvement.
Potential Risks: Improper tongue posture from mewing can disrupt tooth alignment, worsen existing bite problems, and lead to jaw pain (TMJ).
If you're looking for ways to improve your jawline or facial features, it's best to consult a dentist or orthodontist. They can recommend safe and proven methods based on your individual needs.

Mewing is a posture, not an exercise. It doesn't take extra time. I started mewing at 54 years old and noticed positive changes in my facial structure after a year. Four years later my facial structure has continued to improve. I look better and my facial muscles feel like they are attached differently to my face from before.

If you exercise any muscle it will reshape and alter posture but this doesn’t mean the underlying skeletal structure or here arch form can be altered the way orthotropics purports it to do
