Former Dixon, Illinois comptroller Rita Crundwell, the woman responsible for the largest municipal fraud in American history is now back in the community she stole from, according to sources.
Mayor Of Dolton Is Doing Something Similar Now Signing Everything By Force. She His Spending Money Like Crazy And Nobody Is Stopping Her Before She Spend Millions Like Her
She was the city's comptroller. The town was facing bankruptcy and she falsified the expenses and making the financial reports. Nearby town leaders were saying something is up as we are doing well financially with similar income and expenses.
The brother and the boyfriend probably received millions of dollars of money and are beholden to protect her. He was driving a nice brand new truck kind of makes sense. The sold her property of course and all the things she claimed to own but there is no way to prove the brother or boyfriend received stolen goods so they got to keep theirs.
Seems like those two came from a real quality family.(dripping sarcasm) A decent person would have simply said "No comment." He has no shame, just like his sister.
Sure who said crime don't pay and if that no good old Pres. Drumpo where still around with his MAGA fanatic supporters who knows, she and her kind would probably still be back on that high horse with newer better schemes to swindle more of the towns / countries money.
She could thank the Chinese for Covid because of that and don’t tell me she doesn’t have assets hidden somewhere gold coins, whatever diamonds, easy to wash money with golden and diamonds.
$54 M fraud in a town that size perpetrated over 20 years is an unbelievable feat. I'm a retired auditor and I would love to sit down for an hour with the auditor/audit firm. I just don't understand how that could have happened without the head of the CPA firm being part of the fraud.
It's amusing that in one of the news clips in this video, the anchor describes it as "little by little over 20 years". 2.7 million per year is not "little by little", especially in a town of 15,000 people. She likely didn't start right at 2.7 million, and instead only took 10's or 100's of thousands for the first few years. Meaning that in later years she was taking far more than 2.7 million. How in the world does that go unnoticed in a town of 15,000? What even is the budget of a town that size? I could see someone getting away with a couple hundred thousand at the very most, but 54 million???????
She began working for the city right out of high school. She didn't come from a wealthy family and wasn't receiving a large salary yet no one questioned where all her money came from. The small town good old boy mentality. She had no remorse and would have continued stealing because her lifestyle was nothing but a big money pit with taxpayers money.
She'll serve about 8 years for $54 million and yet a black man who stole a $150 jacket gets life without parole because it was his third strike, all very minor strikes like this- no wonder people complain about a two tiered justice system.
White collar crime is not meant to refer to skin color. Financial crimes do real damage also. Man mentioned may well have had NEED for the jacket. What NEED could this woman have. Disparity in sentencing is shocking indeed. I wouldn't doubt if financial crimes carry far lesser penalties because those making the so-called laws are more concerned with those more like themselves.
pedophiles always get far lesser penalties because those interpreting and applying the "so-called laws are more concerned with those more like themselves?"@@albertfinney1328
Looks like arrogance and unrepentant behavior runs in the family. This thief is anything but repentant or sorry for her crimes. That’s clear by her protesting of the sentence she received, and her feeling that it was too harsh. The only thing she’s sorry about was getting caught. In her mind she probably knew she would eventually be caught, but expected it would be a slap on the wrist. Which further indicates her arrogance, lack of remorse, and premeditation. She’s a criminal. A convicted felon that stole from every single taxpayer in that town, then flaunted her ill gotten wealth like she was the one that earned it! She should be behind bars working off the proceeds at $3.00 a day until her time is served.
Sure who said crime don't pay and if that no good old Pres. Drumpo where still around with his MAGA fanatic supporters who knows, she and her kind would probably still be back on that high horse with newer better schemes to swindle more of the towns / countries money.
Yeah it seems like a family of sociopaths considering the behavior of the brother. I always wonder why fraudsters always have such horrible taste in terms of decor, clothing, architecture, etc.
@@CoolHand273 Right! You notice when they showed the inside of the home, and the items up for auction? Calling it “tacky” is being kind! Lol The place looked like a warehouse for western movie props. 😂😂😂 And those clothes? Yikes! 😂 If you’re gonna be a thief, at least have a little class.
Yep. Can you imagine someone stealing 54 million from a town over the course of 20 years, putting in a personal pool while the towns children get none and then calling it her "mistake". The absolute arrogance and lack of remorse is astounding and her family seems like lowlifes as well.
The idea that crime only happens in urban areas are delusional and that’s one of the reasons why she did it because she knew the community would trust her. Thieves are everywhere
This part, but they don't wanna acknowledge their crimes, instead they would rather entertain generalized stereotypes to take the focus off of crimes being committed elsewhere
Well if she isn’t where she told the judge she would be that’s against her probation. Monitor or not she’s given quite a bit of $ to family members for later. What a piece of work. I truly hope they call her back to prison for the rest of her sentence.
Lived in Dixon many years ago. Speaking against her was a sin! Where's the auditors I asked several times after seeing her gaudy house, ranch & was told she was the most respectful person in Dixon & I wasn't a local, so I had no say. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 It' a pretty area but, as you can see, very naive😨
Same. I showed horses with her. Once asked what she did for a living and when I heard she was a small town comptroller, I knew something wasn't right there. She was always very generous with donations and sponsorships, very good to the youth associations, etc. so of course nobody pushed too much and if anyone ever did ask 'oh how did you get so well off' she would say something like 'my checks clear don't they' which I guess is the Dixon, IL version of 'fo get about it'. People would say her money was in the 'family land' but vacant land in the middle of nowhere doesn't buy you $2 million dollar motor coaches. People just chose to be ignorant.
It’s funny that the man who coined the term “trust but verify” actually came from Dixon. And became president of the United States. That’s one native son they should’ve listened to!
I live in the country but in a nearby college town several years ago the sheriffs dept was caught running a prostitution ring, you know, helping college girls pay for college ! Several deputies indicted by a grand jury, somehow it was all dismissed and NOT ONE charge, they all remained on the department!😡 and there’s more…..it’s a disgrace!
I have a friend that owns a massive Ford Dealership. He and his friends were caught with some local cheerleaders. He has massive wealth and paid the girls off. And the Good Old system took care of the rest.
@@rnupnorthbrrrsm6123 this is why I keep on saying, most cop's are corrupt, watching " Betraying the badge, family of the Mafia" then one sees how corrupt cops are,but it's world 🌎 wide,
Geez...the fact that she asked for early release because her crime "didn't warrant" her punishment tells you all you need to know about her lack of remorse.
Her family is so wealthy that they were able to buy her property when it was auctioned. Being released to live in an 80 acre ranch space is not punishment buy like getting sentenced to live in a luxury health farm.
Wall Street pitched so-called quality stocks with high profitability and low debt, as a kind of insurance against whatever the economy might throw at you. Quality stocks have underperformed the S&P500 this year, My $400k portfolio is down by approximately 20 %, any recommendations to scale up my ROI before retirement will be highly appreciated.
For the average citizen, the tactics are rather demanding. In actuality, most of them are effectively completed by experts who possess the necessary knowledge and skill set to carry out such occupations.
I'm grateful for this advice. Finding your coach wasn't too hard. I researched her well before arranging to speak with her on the phone. Considering her resume, she appears competent.
A 20 year sentence for stealing $54 million. A better place would be to make her work it off for free! Public humiliation is way better than prison. Rita's relatives are real fine pillars of the community!! I am sure they all benefited from her capers!
Sure who said crime don't pay and if that no good old Pres. Drumpo where still around with his MAGA fanatic supporters who knows, she and her kind would probably still be back on that high horse with newer better schemes to swindle more of the towns / countries money.
Ain’t no way she stole that large of amount of money by herself…54 million in over 20years..somebody else knew something…TRUST ME .. SHE GOT SOME MONEY PUT AWAY
It's not hard to do. Rockstar Sting's accountant stole £13million before anyone noticed. A PA at the London HQ of Goldman Sachs investment bank stole £12million before anyone noticed.
You can believe that all you want but that’s mostly emotion talking or some people are fed miss information. First, from the founding of this country it’s always been that accused criminals have rights. You’re sending them to prison so you’re supposed to make sure you get it right. Second, respectfully I can tell that you are not very knowledgeable on criminal law. Because if you talk to defense attorneys and prosecutors or even go observe hundreds of trials you will notice that prosecutors often have the red carpet rolled out for them because of all the judicial rules. But defense attorneys have to fight twice as hard to maybe get half the power if they’re lucky.
Sure who said crime don't pay and if that no good old Pres. Drumpo where still around with his MAGA fanatic supporters who knows, she and her kind would probably still be back on that high horse with newer better schemes to swindle more of the towns / countries money.
Umm, i’m not sure what you really mean by that. But you know there’s tens of thousands of people from all types of communities release the exact same way.
How does a small town not notice, when all those things the money is supposed to be used for just don't get done? I've no doubt she socked away millions and will now be able to enjoy it. And to come back to the town where she caused so much destruction, that's just sociopathic.
City council did an extremely poor job, no one ever followed up on anything, and she was allowed to essentially supervise herself. I wish they had pursued some sort of punishment for the council members' dereliction of duty. They were too busy playing VIP and sounds like everyone was allowed to have pet projects based on personal preferences & goals, they did nothing to prevent this & then played victim. God bless that whistleblower.
@@iMatti00 A sentence should be a sentence that sticks when it *should* stick. There are probably innocent people in that prison serving similar sentences for petty marijuana possession but because they’re not… (insert the obvious here)… they don’t get the option to get out. Heck, if she’d been a (white) man, she’d have been out years earlier. And we all know it.
From Wiki article on R.C.: "In 1983, Crundwell was appointed the treasurer and comptroller for Dixon, working in this capacity for almost three decades. Crundwell acquired a sterling reputation; in 2011, one of the city commissioners praised her stewardship of city finances, saying that "she looks after every tax dollar as if it were her own."
Small towns/counties have one grave problem--long term employees with unsupervised authority. Unlike larger cities, there is often little or no outside oversight to government or public employees. No real press, no larger companies to question what is going on, and this leads to ill informed voters. It is not their fault, but we all have to do better than to be uniformed in an age of always available information.
Does anyone doubt that she converted some of it to cash and squirreled it away and is just waiting for her probation to end so that she can scoot on over a couple of states, change her name and go back to living like a queen?
This may answer how she managed to get out of Jail time. The Crundwell family name was found in the USA, the UK, and Canada between 1880 and 1920. In 1880 there were 9 Crundwell families living in Texas. This was about 69% of all the recorded Crundwell's in USA. Texas has highest population of Crundwell. Looks like she had family in high places that made this happen.
She's being treated awfully well and seems as if the community doesn't hate her too much. I wonder why? She ruined the trust of an entire town. OH WELL life goes on and no town is still safe anywhere in the world.
If she had embezzled $54,000 I would understand how she got away with it for so long. But $54 million? Officials in city hall should’ve been asking a lot more questions a lot sooner.
They Will Never Take Any Actions. Those That Are Trying To Report Her Always Get Fired. Mayor Of Dolton Is Doing The Same Stealing No Action Is Taken. She Fired People That Are Complaining. She Is All Over The News With No Actions
Let's do the math. The reporter said that Dixon got back MOST of the money. Rita soul 54 million. The government says they sold everything that they know she owned. Dixon also got a settlement of $40 million from the accounting firm. So 40 million plus selling everything she said she owned still doesn't quite come up with the 54 million dollars that she stole. It seems pretty likely that she has a lot of that money stored away someplace. I'm really look at whether her family members have mortgages on their house or how they're paying for it. She might have served 9 years in prison but walked away with 10 or 20 million in cash or assets that are hidden. A lot of people with trade 9 years of their life away for that.
Thats just what they recovered from selling assets. A lot her stuff was sold at a loss and you gotta remember she was also living a lavish lifestyle so its not impossible that she spent it.
What a nasty family. Supporting such a terrible lady that doesn’t deserve so much damage to that city. These types of people are everywhere amongst us.
Keep in mind. Elected officials come and go, and most work another job.. so plus very few have the necessary skills to understand financial details. This lady had 20ys yrs experience and had enough moxie to down talk anyone who asked questions.. I’ve served on multiple youth sports boards, and I discovered that almost every program has had at one time fraud.. here are the main reasons; trust in the person, frequent turnover, and lack of accountability…
@@clemclemson9259- Get away from trumps waist line while you’re down on your knees praising him. You sicko. Your savior Trump has pulled the wool over your eyes. He’s nothing more than Hillary Clinton on steroids.
Evidently, not all accounting firms are able or willing to perform an accurate audit. Now, that firm should pay back all the fees for the "audits" they performed those past 20 years.
Sounds like a problem of oversight. City counsel has some splaining to do regarding who is in charge and the responsibilities of the position to maintain civil duties such as spending taxpayers monies.
Looks like a win, win for everyone? The city of Dixon got almost all the money back and Rita got to enjoy 20 years of her life in luxury, surrounded by her beloved horses and horse people. I always thought horse lovers had a screw loose and this case proves it.
She refers to it as her "mistake". A mistake is something minor that you do unintentionally that has negative consequences, this 20 year robbery of a town that she perpetrated over and over again, robbing people while actually taking a salary to rob them is despicable and the fact that she calls it a mistake shows her lack of insight and remorse.
US Marshall auditioned off all her stuff bought with embezzles money including really expensive horses; she had a room entirely filled with ribbons she won at quarter horse competitions
That woman did a great documentary on this subject called “ all the queens horses” she herself has a Phd in accounting I believe. I saw her do a presentation and she showed the documentary. Super smart. Great in depth documentary
The sad music really impresses the tragedy that is so COMMON in urban Chicago and not quiet rural communities like Dixon. People can and do deceive no matter WHERE they live. A reputation for good upstanding citizens and families in a particular area doesn't stop these same people from committing crimes and getting away with it.
Sure who said crime don't pay and if that no good old Pres. Drumpo where still around with his MAGA fanatic supporters who knows, she and her kind would probably still be back on that high horse with newer better schemes to swindle more of the towns / countries money.
I believe you can always regain the lost trust, this can be accomplished by having genuine remorse and apologizing openly to the public for the misdeeds. Someone who scammed $54 million, who can easily repay a healthy amount of it to somewhat “silence the recipient” for the time being, had plenty of time to speak out and apologize, that speaks volumes, and now she can enjoy the comforts of home confinement (with “exceptions”). Paying back the stolen money (one aspect of regaining trust) and not admitting her mistakes to the offended is like taking only a pain pill and NOT addressing the ROOT CAUSE. Was Justice served?
This is how African countries are run. The leaders are fithy rich while the countries run out of money for services. Rita would not have gone to prison in Africa. She'd be looked up to
Yep with all of it's oil, Nigeria should be the richest country in Africa. Same for the Congo and its wealth in minerals. Instead they are as poor as any of the others. Neither country even has a road network to get around.
Its appalling this lady was ever released at all. She should've been confined to prison for life giving all the lives she destroyed as a result of her actions. She may think she's free today, but the reality is she has to answer to God and the whole of humanity when she leaves this earth.
