that is what is what I say.......... this solo SUCKS. but Blackmore is so over rated it doesn't surprise Me, His solos like this always suck Compare this noise with Eruption, WOW EVH is so much better
@@tomdaniels3392 woa, if you generalize all his stuff with this specific solo, then, sorry about that, but you're a huge moron. Can't help you but just go watch 95% of his solo in live performance where it's full of great impro, and then dare to say something like that...
During the first show on 12/31/69 in New York, Jimi Hendrix did the entire show like this (overly extreme tricks and noises, etc...). Legend has it that prompted promoter Bill Graham to say to him between shows "Yeah, that was great JImi. How about going out there now and actually playing music."
He is trying to communicate with aliens i guess Edit: For all the butt hurts trying to defend Blackmore. This is a Joke and Blackmore is like one of my top 5 musicians of all time! So pls get a sense of humor and stop trying to belittle people on internet! For those who like Thanks for the likes
Ritchie no doubt one of the most influential rock guitarist in the world and best wt ideas from the 60s to 80s all the album. Today guitarist take him as a reference as a great talented musician
@Piano Yes, born in the 60's kid. Music was the best in the 70's, and some in the 80's, unlike the trash that people listen to these days. Run along child, your lip-synching heroes await you. LOLOLOLLLLLLLLL
@Piano 57 yrs young kid. I am also a guitarist. Everybody ages kid....unless you are immortal..and you are not. Go play in traffic kid....don't forget to cry like the good little Millennial whiner does these days, Bwahaa
@@TheOnlyHollywood1 it's sadder when a bunch of commenters who've never heard guitar played like this think he's doing this cause he's bad. Clearly if he's played guitar like an expert before, he's playing like this on purpose. A guitar is a hunk of wood with strings on it. You can play it artistically or you can beat it to death. Watch this Butthole Surfers at Lollapalooza Festival ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xYlcxBE5dh0.html
@@ejsrocket I know he's a great guitar player, it's just odd that he's playing so erratically and not playing as well as he normally does. I'm not trying to spread hate on him, I'm just pointing out how odd it is that he's not playing as well as he normally does
@@TheOnlyHollywood1 you misunderstand what he's doing here though. He's not playing conventionally. It's like there's no wrong note because he's not playing with a note at all. Just guitar feedback and noise. It reminds me of free jazz saxophone players. Go check out Albert Ayler and you'll hear the same type of style that Ritchie does here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uQzJsGAHsVM.html
Considering all of the exceptional live playing Ritchie has done over the past 45 years, it's a little bit disturbing that this footage would be titled in such a way as to invite ridicule from those who aren't familiar with just how brilliant this guitar player actually is. I suggest any 'haters' check out the rest of his incredible career before passing judgement.
Some of the best feedback ever, only compared to Jimi Hendrix. The feedback on the start of 'Highway Star' on the Made In Japan album is sublime. Many have attempted and failed, some real big names which I will respect and not mention. This man makes magic with a Strat and Marshall.
Finally someone that knows Blackmore. He was just messing around on this. Yes Ritchie is one of a kind. He has created more Original Music than anyone else in the Business never repeating himself. I just watched a Concert that he did late in Rainbow with Doogie White on vocals and Ritchie was absolutely amazing. Fast and clear. Every note so clean no matter how fast he played. And his touch has no equal. Absolutely outstanding. If people would take the time and educate themselves on Ritchie they would mesmerized by his talents.
I saw this tour, he was making crazy effects like Jimi would have done. Sounded much better at the show, it panned in stereo but only hearing one side here, that's why it drops out.
He proved a billion times that he is a master of his instrument. If it comes to improvisation, jamming or songwriting, he's much better than anyone in his generation. This 'solo' should be taken as an experiment. It should have pleased the audience with its bursting energy not with its non-existent melody. (Kinda like techno music, in my opinion.)
@@enriquemendez1507 interesting retort, clinic's are a place for hands on education. Lest we get stuck on the word 'clinic'..Richie a teacher for people who have the made to step up and to step with these outrageous guitar....
The ultimate Mr. Blackmore video would be Him going to Guitar Center grabbing a white Strat off the wall and playing Smoke on the Water, putting the guitar on the counter and walking out.
@@Mr007Zeta old people think metal music sounds like a mess. You just like George McFly listening Eddy Van Hallen. It means not music is bad, You just cant understand it coz of lack of education and experience/
Seeing this reminded me of all the "Shred" videos that came out many years ago. I think they may have been the funniest things I ever saw on youtube! Thanks for posting this!
This was at that very short lived magic era on the MK2 regroup when Blackmore was being a madman again, & everything was firing on all cylinders for a very short time. The PS tour was awesome to see !!
@@timothyapwisch7652 MK2 would be the 2nd line-up of DEEP PURPLE (most iconic) of Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Gillan, & Glover, from 69-73, 84-88, & short lived 25 yr reunion from 93-94 when Blackmore left for good. The MK1 lineup was short lived with Evan's & Simper with Hush in 68, MK3 in 74-76 was very successful with Coverdale & Hughes in the band, 1 of my favorite lineups!!
I saw that incredible tour. In 1985, here in Madrid. I was there... Always a fan of them, mainly, RB, and all his works. A genius guitarist and songwriter.
Rockin Roy - I hope you are kidding my brother. Are you saying this was a comedic performance because I am laughing every time I see this. This was atrocious to say the least!
Hell no....!!! I saw this same performance Houston TX 1985 or 86. It was total crap. Sounded like a more messy version of Vinny Vincent. Never have I been so disappointed because it was because of Richie I picked up the guitar in 1975 at 12 yrs old
@@supertal6074 ...totally agree....I saw this tour.....Houston TX. It was horrible. I think Blackmore was coked out or on something. I was embarrased to even be in the audience that night. Shamefull
I saw him do this on this tour and walked out with a big question mark hanging over my head. Ritchie had heard that Trevor Rabin solo on Owner of a Lonely Heart (by the band YES) and was very impressed with it. Said it was the greatest solo he had ever heard. So he started playing like this live. In retrospect it was a great experience, the band bloody tight but some of the solos were god damn awful. Cheers 🍺
@@inatorquoisemood93 What you hear is a completely different thing. Ritchie is a god, not just because he plays insanely but he also feels what he plays, that solo was an example.... I'm obviously not saying this with any offence It's just some facts. Have a nice day! :)
I never got to see purple live in the USA...but thanks to u tube and u guys..I got to see how I missed out on one of the greatest bands live...from what I've seen here they turned up the live shows performance s....to like 15 on a ten scale solo and improv asation
@@96slavko This performance only represents one side of Blackmore. The side here is his "wild side." It doesn't rear its head often, but when it does, things get crazy. For example, at the end of the Deep Purple California Jam concert in 1974, he smashed three strats and blew up his amps. The other side, the side I personally love about Blackmore, is his melodic, neoclassical style. It's evident from his guitar solos in "Burn" and "Highway Star." His neoclassical side became more evident with his next band, Rainbow. Without Ritchie, Yngwie Malmsteen wouldn't be the neoclassical metal shredder he is.
This is blackmore’s essence, the heat of the moment, just the band, his sound and everyone together as one. Forget tech and scales, please see beyond first layer.
@Cero Z B B King was very good in playing blues harmonies and pentatonics. In contrast that, blackmore can't play harmonies, he doesn't know about pentatonics during to his performance. However in 70's blackmore played some harmonies but that which he had been taught by John Lord. After that, for example in 80's his guitar was very poor and main rhytm of fuzz was played by Lord, blackmore only walked on the stage
You have to see the whole show, because it was stunning. Fresh, brutal and also they seemed to have very much fun on stage. Everybody is doing a very good job. This part is taken out of Space Truckin'. And I think his job on it is better in Knebworth '85. But he is the one and only. And he is allowed to do so. Just watch the show from '72 Kopenhagen, also the Space Truckin' part. He is crazy, but that is good.
He is absolutely the greatest guitarist EVER.Not even Hendrix is so creative and imaginative as he is. There's many of great players, but Ritchie is some other planet, for all of them.
Fantastisch!
Back when I still thought I could play , people would ask me: "Can you play solo? So low I cant hear you?" And : " Can you play tenor? Ten or fifteen miles away?"
Yes he can play classical metal very good, but that really sucked! It's his trying to be flashy that ruins his playing. Jeff Beck can hit one note that's classy, and Blackmore hardly hit any in 4 minutes.
@@Juno58 Watch some videos and you will see exactly how great he really was. Google Rainbow Munich 77. He had just got out of jail before that concert so he really just played. Also Cologne 76. Those are with Dio. Wring That Neck. Burn live at California Jam. Black Night, Child in Time and Speed King BBC 1970. Listen to The Greatest Live Album in History Made In Japan. No one played like Blackmore in 72. Also Rainbow in San Antonio 82. Blackmore is different every show and he range in styles is phenomenal. You won't regret it. He was just messing around trying to please the crowd. You can watch Blackmore Videos from Deep Purple and Rainbow all week long and never watch the same one. He was the Original Shredder. Hendrix called Ritchie Mr. Speed. Ritchie also has sold millions of Albums of Acoustic Guitar. Name another Hard Rock Guitarist that has done that.
If I would play this on a guitar and film it I would get 90% thumps down in RU-vid... Blackmore is definetly a Guitar God, but this Video is a wrong example I guess...
People calling this "crap" because it is "just noise" need to understand that it's not like Ritchie relied on playing this way all the time. He is one of the best technically spot on players of any generation, here he's just trying to do something different and creative. Music (especially rock) is not about playing beautiful ear stroking melodies all of the time. As far as Smoke on the Water being "primitive".... first I would say try playing the solo, second I would say compose an equally "primitive" riff and change the music scene forever and third (as Ritchie says) like Beethoven sometimes simple and easily recognizable riffs are the best. People are far too critical for my taste...that's my criticism.
