The E8 was the production version that sold diesel. The FT closed the deal. The earlier E units showed the viability of diesel. E7's showed mass production was possible. E8's showed reliability and ease of purchase was the standard. E8's also standardized the nose, electronics and power plant for all E/F units. FT's sold diesels into frieght service.

Thank You. I have a old E8 needs a little clean and repair, and I couldn't get it apart. Type exactly that in and, Thank You for the video. That wiper on the axel might be a good trick with some other pickups. Little extra weight might even that out a little. What's not to like for three dollars.

Super. My railroads management (Me) has never bought (?) or received as a gift any five or six axle streamlined passenger locomotives ever. Interesting considering how many people buy trains as gifts for me, and how much I like all of the big passenger locomotive designs. No EMD "E" units, no FM 5 axle C-Liners or Erie Builts, (The CPA24-5 is nice) no Baldwin BP-20 Passenger Sharknose, (My favorite) or Babyface units, no EMD SDFP-45 or SDP-40F locos, no ALCO PAs or DL-109s, no Black Marias or any experimental locomotives, no modern streamlined (P42, F40, F125, etc.) units, and not streamlined, but no GE U28CG or U30CG or EMD SD45P locomotives are owned by my railroad. Instead, I have a fleet of EMD F7 units, FM CFA20-4 C-Liners, Baldwin RF-16 Sharknose, and ALCO FA-2 locomotives, both A and B units, that take care of my railroads passenger trains. Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. 💙 T.E.N.

My second train set as a kid was the Rivarossi UP passenger set. I think it was an E8, Coach, and Observation. Maybe also a Diner. I am thinking of rebuilding it, since I do not have it anymore. One thing I remember is that the loco is powered with reverse polarity from my 3rd train set a Tyco F9 loco with freight cars. Is yours opposite polarity on the motor from your other locos?

Been a long time since running this loco, but I don't remember the polarity being different.

@@VintageRoadRail I got mine in about 1970. I expect someone in the factory made mine special by wiring it backwards. 🤣
