Riven was very Intriguing, lots of mystery and spooky moments. And say what you like about the moose bro reading "too" much. The new gen of gamers often forgets that the deep dive experience of these games is to read the story and sink in, and moose reads it well. 🤙
I actually like the fact that Ian reads it, cuz occasionally I look away from screen/use these to fall asleep 😴 So it’s nice to not have to always look at the screen!
Thank you so much for uploading these VODs! It's so relaxing to watch and Riven is one of those new-age-vaporwave-feel-but-more-aquariumcore-feeling worlds, I tried playing it in highschool but never got far. Watching you play it now it all makes much more sense to me, maybe I'll pick up the remastered version just to look around and vibe and get my brain tickled every once in a while. Looking forward to the next one!! Also I was able to concentrate on this for 2 hours straight, usually watch VODs in shorter stretches lmao
I have been waiting for you to play Riven for years. Ever since we got to see you play Myst last year, I was very eager to see what the next chapter of this game series would bring and wow! I am in for the ride, especially since we were going on many rides (my favorite part). The graphics, the lore, the mystery, the sounds! So excited!
More interesting than Myst so far to me at least. A bit funny how Ian is like "I don't like how most games just tell you the story" and then proceeds to read a literal journal for over half an hour that directly explains the story and the villain's own monologue and thoughts.
ahhhh yay!! Riven is one of my All Time Favorite Games and my brother and I just played the remake together and loved it! So glad you're streaming the OG one :)
So dismaying to see people in the chat paying literally no attention to the reading and then going 'I'm confused, I don't get it, I'm bored' lmao. Maybe listen, or read along? just a pet peeve of mine tbh, and that's why I couldn't be a twitch streamer.
Yeah same, i couldn’t be this kind of content creator either. I think people forget how much it truly takes and that content creators are humans too! I love that Ian reads it cuz then I can listen along! Or like you said follow along myself 😊
Yes and I find it surprising to see because I feel like Ian's streams don't usually attract that kind of viewer...? I definitely feel you on it being a pet peeve! I actually love learning about the lore especially for a game like this where there's so much depth
to be fair this game is one where it can be reallllly long and boring if you aren't figuring out the puzzles. it helps Ian's played this before but I just watched someone else stream it and it was rough. i watch/listen intently and still miss a lot.
To play Devil’s Advocate, I feel like I understand the impulse. Ian’s streams don’t usually contain such extensive reading, so a new viewer could feel confused by these text-heavy games. Some folks don’t think games should be books. You’re right that they could just click off, but I think the viewer’s level of investment compels them to complain. It’s still bratty behavior if it’s meant in earnest, though.
thanks for playing these. i'd always see Myst at the store and considered getting it, but these aren't my style of games. i appreciate being able to watch Myst and Riven so far!
11:10 I love that Ian has a guide! I miss the “official guide book” days. I still have some of my favorite games that I would flip through. One of my random favs is my Pokémon Coliseum guide! As a kid it was hype looking at them and feeling like I had special secret knowledge
So so cool to see you playing Riven (and Myst) after hearing you mentioning wanting to for many years. I never played the games but I love the premise, and while I enjoyed your Myst playthrough there's something about Riven that's really drawn me in so I'm super excited for the full playthrough and I'm sure it'll end up on my rotation of series to rewatch
"I'd be so tired climbing up all these ladders" The remake lets you climb each ladder manually in VR mode if you want. There's an option to teleport though.
I was eating a hot dog when I watched this, since you specifically included that as a sandwich, pimento cheese and pickles on it did you ever go back and play kyrandia after you played it in one of the bingos?
im not a huge fan of the original riven, not because its too "slow" or anything like that, but too many "behind the door" puzzles. i am a big fan of the fmv though.
