The River to River Trail is located in Southern Illinois and winds its way 157 miles through the Shawnee National Forest from the Mississippi River at Grand Tower, Illinois to the Ohio River in Elizabethtown, Illinois.
I decided to try and do the trail in 7 days and I cached food and water in two different spots along the way. The caches are roughly 50 miles apart and help me to carry less food each day and also I won't have t leave the trail for any resupply.
I've had my eye on this trail since 2014 and am very happy to be able to have this experience and get one more trail off of my list.

It’s good to see my favorite hiking RU-vidr back on trail! I might never get around to hiking this one so I’m super glad you got to do it so I can see what it’s like. You’re looking very fit for this hike 😀 Also, which shoes did you wear?

Thanks for checking it out. I know it's not as exciting as some trails you have done recently it's actually a pretty cool trail and harder than I anticipated. I didn't mention it in the video but I actually pulled the hell out of my right calf muscle stepping on a tall root the wrong way and it turned into an extremely painful hike for the last 4 days. I wore the olympus that I had left over from the AZT and it will definitely be the last time I hike in the Olympus, I had way more foot pain than I had on the last several hikes where I used the Lone Peaks. Also, the Hypershellz waterproof socks stopped working on the second day of wearing them on this hike and I really needed them on this one. Thanks for checking it out!!!

Thnaks for checking out out. It is a pretty obscure trail. I think If I hadn't lived in St. Louis for awhile I probably wouldn't have known it was there. I was looking for a trail I could hike relatively fast and I had been looking at this one for a long time so it just seemed like the right time. Thanks for checking it out!!!

The area around Alto Pass is where my love and appreciation for all things outdoors was kindled as a kid. I hope to do this trail in the next few years. Thanks for sharing your hike!

I was hanging out this morning and looked at my subs and There you were, somewhere on the River to River Trail ! Sure is nice to see you this morning. I'm hanging out between rounds of trying to season a titanium plate I have to use for a UL frying pan. I've never even heard of this trail but I'm glad I have now. It really looks nice out there. I'd love to check out one of those caves. I always thought it would be cool to spend the night in one. Hope all is well with you and yours and I'll be looking forward to seeing you next week \O/

Thanks for checking it out, I know it's not a popular trail but it was one I had been looking at for several years and the time finally came where I was able to get up there and give it a shot. I originally was on a very long Summer hike but was forced off the trail due to a medical issue so I didn't release any video from that. I'm planning on making a second attempt at it next Summer so I'm just going to sit on that video. This is a great trsil and doesn't take too much planning or time to complete. I'll admit it was harder than I anticipated, I really thought I was going t do 25 mile days and knock it out but I don't think I ever did one day at 25 miles. Still worth it! Thanks for checking it out and it's great to hear from you!

Man, it's great to see you back on trail again. I've never heard of this one. I really love the rock features you passed by. Later in the year with leaves on the ground it's easy to get off trail. That's happened to us all. I enjoyed watching this section. ✌

Hey it's great to hear from you!! I didi a really long hike over the Summer but I was unable to finish due to a medical issue so I'm going back to finish it next Summer. I wanted to have some kind of hike for this Fall so I finally got this trail off the list. It's actually a pretty cool little trail and I was able to drive to it and get back relatively quick. I get off trail a lot more coming up and there are some really crazy rock formations coming up later on. Thanks for watching and I hope you're doing well!!!

Thank you so much! I had a blast hiking and filming this one. It was kind of a last minute plan since I was hiking another trail this Summer but wasn't able to finish so I drove up to Illinois to knock this shorter hike off the list. thanks again for checking it out!!!

I used to live near Springfield and also in St. Charles, Mo and I never did this trail or the Ozark trail. There is a lot of good hiking in that area, of course the weather has a lot to do with it. I wish I could have spent more time n the Garden of the Gods area, it looked amazing. Thanks for checking out the video1

Wow, thank for watching and also for watching the AZT hike so many times!!! This trailis definitely the most road-walking I've ever done on a hike but it was still fun overall and I'm glad to have it off my list of hikes. The forest sections were really great when you were in them. Thanks or checking it out!!!

I've heard that trail is poorly marked in places. I'm anxious to see how it goes. He's going eastbound. Most folks go westbound. Interesting.
@somewhereonthetrail
@somewhereonthetrail 2 года назад
It was marked fairly well. I think it was about as good as most trails I've been on, really good in some places and not so much in others. I also had the 28 page mapset from the RivertoRivertrail.org and I used those with the Avenza app so it was really easy to navigate and also a lifesaver for getting off trail. I love going the opposite direction on hikes because I get to meet everybody and share real time information with other hikers. Thanks for checking it out!

Any GPS coordinates on your camping spots? I plan to go E to W in Map 2024 so any input would be greatly appreciated.
@somewhereonthetrail
@somewhereonthetrail 6 месяцев назад
I'm sorry I didn't keep track of my campsites at all. Most of them were just last minute places I could find. I hope you have a great hike!!! I did think cacheing the trail was worth it and I would do that again if I were to hike it again, I would probably do 3 caches just so I could only carry 2 and half days of food at a time.
