On August 16, 2024 around 12:45 p.m. this afternoon, Riverside Police Officers responded to a home in the 9100 block of Indiana Avenue after a woman reported she had been attacked with a knife by the father of her young child. The man pulled the child away from the woman then barricaded himself inside the home. The victim was able to escape the home to arriving officers. The suspect refused to comply with officers’ order to surrender the child. The Riverside Police Department SWAT Team and Emergency Negotiators responded, and following lengthy negotiations, the suspect put the child on the front porch for officers to rescue. The suspect eventually surrendered to SWAT Officers almost two hours later and was taken into custody. The woman sustained minor injuries and the baby was not injured.
