Just a little history lesson regarding yankeetown dock number 22. It was purchased by US Steel Cumberland Mine and repainted in the 2 tone blue to match Cumberland’s #1 SD38-2. These locomotives are still hauling coal today in southwest, PA. I drove them before I retired and loved every minute of it. Might be worth doing a run of them the next time you tool up.
I hope someday a manufacturer will run these in N scale. A certain company in the mountains has made a lot of promises with no results. I can’t speak for all N scale modelers but I’d like to say I think many of us would be happy to see the SD38-2 and other locomotives produced in N scale even if it means not being able to capture 100% of the road name specific details Scale Trains goes to great lengths to include on the HO models
I definitely want to get some of those SP units but those L&N units are looking pretty cool too! Definitely would love to see those in family lines paint!
The BC Hydro unit looks great as it arrived a few weeks ago. BC Hydro units (Southern British Columbia then to SRY Link) used an copy of CN Rail style Ditch lights on the 38's that we're used in the late 70's. As of today the 38's are not in storage and in use mostly on the Valley job to Abbotsford BC or to Chilliwack BC. These are better suited for pulling up the grades to the valley than the SRY #900's Sw900 that are on the current roster.
I really hope the plastic handrails from manufacturers can get ditched and take on the approach rapido has been doing with the B36s , RS11s etc and most recently RS18Us. Rapido has their flaws like anyone else but I do appreciate those handrails.
Hi Drayton, I hate having to correct you on this one, but the the Southern Railway of British Columbia aka SRY...the SD38-2 units are NOT in storage at all, they run 24/7 for all kinds of duties. Of the 3 remaining , #381 is not a -2..its an SD38AC but the two SD38-2 #382 & 384 are running actively in duty never been stored. The #383 SD38-2 was wrecked many years ago and eventfully scrapped. Just a product suggestion here, many guys who bought the BCH units would love to see a rerun but in the 3 other popular Washington Group paint schemes. I'd like to see the latest scheme called the Meatball. Oh yes, best part is for your manufacturing side, No changes to be made, on the shells, just the paint.
Wow, you guys hit it out of the park with these fantastic paint schemes! I'd love to have the SP SD38-2 but it's 8' (13%) longer than my SD9's. What is the minimum radius for these locomotives, the AC4400 I bought is too long for my layout and derails.
You are wrong about the current SRY Rail Link (formerly BC Hydro Rail) roster @ 8:19 concerning operational locomotives on SRY Rail Link. "Haven't been used in several years." - I know this short line all my life. In fact I was just down at the head office this summer. The SD-38's have never been "collectively" out-of-service." They are currently active along with their new SD-35 from MRL as well. Here is # 382 with # 385 in 2023! ru-vid.comq6u6BSM_7oc Cheers. 😁
