RJ, these designs are hits right out of the ballpark. I recommend that you prioritize R3 ASAP. With the right price, that car is a winner for so many different market segments, right down to what has been abandoned by the Bolt withdrawal from the market. The "hot hatch" crowd will love it with a tri-motor chassis, while people looking for a small practical less expensive SUV will too. You are guiding your company to be one of the new "big three" auto companies of the electric era. I wish you and your company the best.
Can we talk about how nice it is to see a ceo out and about just chatting to people. Not to mention, knows how to speak. Dude really cares about this company.
Doesnt care about his workers. They're some of the worst treated in the industry. He only cares about money. Dont let the smile and nice persona fool you
My Dad ran into RJ at a Whole Foods in OC a few months back. He told me that at first he just thought he was some dude with a Rivian T-Shirt on and started talking to him since we have a neighbor who works there. It turned out it was RJ who is the CEO. He made a good impression on my Dad and from this video I can see why. He seems very down to earth and passionate about Rivian!
This wasnt my target vehicle, but this absolutely nails it. Once I finish school, this will be my first new vehicle purchase for myself. So many of these vehicles are massive, but a 5-seater is perfect. The packaging is excellent, and the haptic wheel controller is genius.
The way the CEO doesn't talk over marcus is a great thing. HE doesn't go into some rant about how great something is. Hes just like "yeah we did this because of xyz" - great communication.
@@swishahoops2103 I could see how he comes off like that too. That kinda thing is always going to be dependent on the culture whoever his judging his actions & product grew up with forsure. A hard thing to do well & appeal to the majority with.
This is the best R2 reveal coverage on RU-vid. Super informative, loved the "why" behind the design and numbers, awesome to have RJ's comments. This is the adventure EV I've been waiting for, I reserved one after watching your video. Well done!
It's incredibly refreshing to see a CEO who is actually qualified and passionate about their product. The guy has a lifelong passion for cars and got a doctorate in mechanical engineering from MIT. You can tell both of those facts from the way he talks about his cars in this video. Incredible how passion can translate over a video. Got a customer out of me, and surely out of many others.
Can't wait until these come to Sweden, looks amazing and RJ seems like the perfect mascot / spokesperson for Rivian, unlike other CEO's around. Really hope they make it big in the EV space.
looks really easy to bump it accidentally. I drove manuals for years, one handed palm steering is a habit that it does not look very compatible with. Otherwise it does look pretty cool, I could see a lot of different applications for it, not just cars.
I am so excited to start seeing these vehicles on the road! I love how Rivian kept their now iconic design language and brought in a more traditional hatchback shape for the R3!
As usual so thoughtful in your interviews, identifying key features most people would ordinarily miss. RJ and the Rivian team will have great success with these lineup.
I love this CEO. He seems really passionate about the company, knowledgeable about the tech and I really like how transparent he is about everything. Cant wait to see Rivian grow in the next few years.
And also battling multiple allegations of workplace sexual harassment and lack of worker safety in their factories. I like their vehicles and I want Rivian to do well, but not at the expense of it's worker's wellbeing. So, if the allegation hold any weight, I sure hope he shows as much passion in fixing the worker well-being issues as he does for innovation and design.
I've been wanting a rivian for so long. Invested in the co since the beginning, so this makes me happy that I will be able to afford one in the near future.
As someone who grew up in a 1st generation Honda Accord (forest green!) I have to say, oh yeah definitely! Looking pretty great. Too bad it's so far off they don't even give a year though. :( If only it released in 2025 at the latest - it could be so successful I feel. Europe especially is screaming for EVs this size, and it looks great with excellent attention to details. Here's hoping they do include the bluetooth speaker with all their models though, that'd be so sweet, and would lower price per unit as well due to larger production runs.
Really? It looks like a brick to me - something designed for someone who wants a Range Rover sport but smaller. I know they claim it has a good CD, but I really doubt it. I guess at least it's got a small front profile unlike their other behemoths? I doubt it's CD is even close to a modern hot hatch. America really just needs to get over the Xover craze.
@@lennyvalentin6485I live in Europe and I can totally confirm this. Rivian would completely blow the competition away with an R3. Myself being among the first buyers. Great looking 80s hot hatch vibe. I'm surprised that Marquez didn't pick up on this. Rivian is, to this day, probably the only solid competitor to Tesla with great built quality and excellent UI.
That R3 surprise got me stoked. My dream daily driver now. Love the aesthetic. So vintage and simple but with all the latest tech. I really hope the best for Rivian.
@@alatmancave7093here is a secret. People like different things. I love the styling of the R3, especially the back. Don’t tell people what they shouldn’t or should like. Makes you look like an asshole
ioniq 5 N is most exciting EV to me, but i love R3. love the design and it's something i can see myself driving. just not sold on the brand yet though.
@@joec.5009The 5N is really a looker, isn't it? Rivian really seems to know what they're doing, too. They've got their corner of the market pinned down.
Don't believe they can use the rear light design on the R3, but hopefully I'm mistaken because I think that's gorgeous. What's the law? Brake lights aren't allowed to be on a movable piece of body work?
@@tier1detailingif they could just wrap the tail lights around the back door like the r1s but also keeping a similar design I think that would make it legal
@@tier1detailing More accurately, there must be brake lights on a piece of body that can't move. The 2017-2020 chevy bolts switched to the lights on the bumper if the lift gate was open. It looks like the R3 has itty bitty lights in the bumper.
RJ seems like a genuine cool and nice guy. He's not awkward like 90% of CEOS are, and he comes across as really passionate (almost geeky?) about his cars. Cool to see that for a change!
RJ is the reason I bought an electric car. Unfortunately I couldn't afford his product, but listening to him is what drove me to make the jump to an EV.
My dad meet him and his ex wife, he said they were really nice people. My husband works for rivian and said he seeing him at the factory here and there.
I noticed that as well. He's not Elon awkward and weird, and he's not like some major brand CEO that has clearly rehearsed all of the talking points with marketing before the event. He seems like he is very hands on and very much a part of the team, and fairly humble and reserved. I am beginning to become fond of their brand. Something about what they are doing here really resonates with me, from the clean software, to the physical controls, to the unique look that combines clean lines and unique colors with something sporty and adventurous for a reasonable price. I'm impressed. They are definitely at the top of my EV list when I upgrade from combustion in a few more years.
That R3X looks like an absolute blasty-blast... I'd love to rip around on some trails with that thing. Instant electric response times, loads of torque, low center of mass, wide wheelbase. I can dream... ...but with a 6 month old and perhaps one more in the future, I'll have to plan for the R2 if anything 😅 they all look pretty sweet
@@KenDotCom The Jeep Renegade has diminutive dimensions and I see quite a few of them in grocery store parking lots. Gen Z is delaying having large families, so smaller more affordable vehicles may make sense. I see what appear to be retired boomers driving Renegades too. It seems like a good opportunity for the Rivian R3.
@@thenerdshowno, they look stupid. Too big, like a toy. The idea of a wheel that you can move from the back or the front is cool, but the wheels are too narrow and too big
Love these! I would get R2 or R3 really, leaning towards R2 right now. I really like that Rivian is coming down-market so that more people can afford them. Very cool cars!
I don’t normally care much for the EV market but I’m not gonna lie… I REALLY like that R3X lol. I have a GTI currently and the design of the R3 gives off the vibes of an 80’s hatchback and I love it. The Tri Motor is just icing on the cake
I'm really fond of this CEO; his humility and enthusiasm for his product are incredibly refreshing. He's deeply passionate about his work. The entire interview came across as a conversation between two gentlemen who are both genuinely excited about the technology, engaging in a relaxed and enjoyable chat. Super like !
@JHunter_ love the thing. My only issue with Rivian is the absurd wait for repairs and the cost if it's not something under warranty. A friend of mine got rear ended in a parking lot...hit and run. It wasn't that much damage but almost nobody would fix it and he waited 3 months for a repair(insurance paid) that would have taken a week for a Ford or Chevy
The contrast between Rivian leaning into Marques and Fisker whining about Marques could not be more stark. Kudos to RJ and Rivian for leveraging Marques here. Brilliant PR move.
@@dustybaguette The thing was Fisker is their software just needs work, needs more time to get bugs fixed and mature. Rivian is notable for having great software already, that is a strength for them. Fisker comes across as just not quite finished and needing a bigger team to get it all tweaked.
The R3X back design strikes me as something that will become a sought-after style. Really interesting blend of vintage and modern design elements. Like how the makers of Back to the Future 2 would have an old VW Golf look in hovercar times.
my initial reaction was that I hated it. I thought it was trying to look retro in a way that didn't work. I can see myself liking it more with time though
I'm a GM guy and I love that Rivian is pushing boundaries and forcing the other companies who've gotten complacent to act. These vehicles are pretty damn cool.
that’s what I’m saying the car industry milked the consumer for decades for old technology. Imagine if they pushed for innovation we would’ve been miles ahead now. I’m glad companies came to have them clean up there act in terms of innovation
I will be forever grateful to you, you changed my entire life and I will continue to preach on your behalf for the whole world to hear you saved me from huge financial debt with just a small investment and I got a new RIVIAN R1T very sweet truck all thanks to you Veronica Hoy
Wow. I'm a bit perplexed seeing her been mentioned here also Didn’t know she has been good to so many people too this is wonderful, I'm in my fifth trade with her and it has been super.
She is my family's personal Broker and also a personal Broker to many families in the United states, she is a licensed broker and a FINRA AGENT in the United States.
As someone who prefers small sedans and crossovers over all the big giant ass SUVs. R3 was a massively pleasant surprise. Really glad to see Rivian is going to have something small in the future if they can make it long enough to be profitable.
@@jake-ly yes, we are going to be in the market specifically for a Crosstrek later this decade when our Outback is about toasted, and I wanted to get something electric for our around the town car. This seems like it would be a great option, if the price is right.
The impression I got from the CEO was more like "I just bought this car that I am super psyched about". Rather than "lets sell some product!!". Very refreshing!! I look forward to these cars but mostly the R3 being a fan of small hatches.
That R3X is freaking sick!!! That’s just what my next car is gonna be I already know it. I love hatchback wagon things, and that thing is just so cool looking! R3 I genuinely feel like will become their “Iconic” car. That design is going to be popular, it’s got this futuristic vintage look that just works so perfectly. And with them all having 300 miles of range! I’m hooked and I’m sold!
I agree, but considering the R2 isn't coming out until 2 years from now and they don't even have a date for the R3, I'm concerned that it won't come out or at least won't come out the way you saw today. I mean, when is it coming out? 2027? It's too long!
R3 or R3X (depending on how significant the price difference is) looks fucking rad. Really dig the lines, the more compact everyday driveability, the colorway (particularly on the R3X), and the more reasonable price tag. Definitely enjoying what Rivian is doing here.
I really appreciate that Rivian is actually trying (and doing very well) to make cool/interesting/fun EV's. I really hope it becomes a successful brand.
Wow! These are some incredible cars! I would be extremely happy with any of these models, but especially that cute little R1. It's giving trekking over Europe in the summer vibes. 😍
Wow R2 really looks like a miniature R1S. The steering wheel controls look awesome and the fold flat front seats are genius. Also that R3X is giving rally hatchback vibes, I dig it.
@@arion9696 I'm loving the recent trend of more small "crossovers" getting closer and closer to classic hatchback styling! Ioniq5, Mazda CX30, Volvo EX30, and more are essentially hatchbacks in proportions and styling. I think the extended wheelbase of EVs are one of the reasons the EVs in particular are resembling hatchbacks more than the ICE crossovers. When you push out the wheels farther to the front and rear, it naturally seems to lend itself to the hatchback shape with proportions resembling the early VW Golfs and similar cars.
I can't believe that Marques still film these himself. Running the #1 unquestionable tech channel on RU-vid... Still humble keeping the experience as if a buddy of yours just sent you a video of something cool they just found. That's amazing, FANTASTIC JOB!
While it is quite nice, have you looked at the first video of this “Auto Focus” channel? He said he wanted to do this channel in a way that helped show people who wanted to start off their own new channels that they can do it with their own stuff, they don’t need the awesome equipment and setup his main MKBHD channel uses. That said, it is definitely appreciated to see he still clearly creates quality content while going to a more “basic” setup… even if it is being shot on a top end mobile device. 🙂
I did a shoot at the Rivian plant and got to meet RJ. He's just like in the videos. Super nice guy who's really excited about making awesome electric vehicles. He's smart and knows how to put a great team together. I expect big things from Rivian.
The UI style of the central screen is really impressive and unique, especially the dark mode theme and wallpaper, love it! the whole has it own design language in exterior and also interior
So happy to see Rivian put out new more affordable products. One thing I don't see people talk about is the decision to place the chargeport where they did (rear passenger side). I understand reducing the HV cable run to save costs, but why not place it rear driver side to make it more accessible at Superchargers? Owners of these cars will have to take up two parking stalls at a Supercharger because charge cables are short and can only reach a port that is located front passenger or rear driver side.
This is amazing! RJ looks like a guy from Illinois for sure haha. I love it! So down to earth. I live about 30 mins south of Normal IL and see Rivians all day long when I go to town. They are absolutely stunning in style and characteristics. I even have friends who work at the plant, and they were surprised as well to see the R3! So cool! I wish the absolute best of luck to Rivian. Great job 👏
@supremefan Their primary Manufacturing facility is located in Bloomington-Normal Illinois. Were quite happy they decided to open up their facility here. He just seems like a normal illinoisan, even though he isnt.
the way Marques went is insane, from reviewing some tech in his room and just uploading the file on the internet to reviewing the newest car by one of the world´s largest EV manufacturers with the CEO himself
I’m not trying to start anything but Tesla is still the number one EV manufacturer. I like Rivian and hope it succeeds especially because I have shares in their stock when it dropped to 10.37 a share.
Impressive how true and humble he has stayed to himself along the way. He makes the videos about the products, not about himself. You can sense his genuine curiosity around the products he reviews. He is that same dude that we first saw years ago in his dorm room with Honey Nut Cheerio boxes in the background.
Its a super sized & "ruggedised" copy of the "Honda Urban EV concept" of 2018. They really ripped it off. Only sold in Japan and Eurpoe, so doubrt americans know it. The production version was shit looking & it's arealdy discontinued but the original concept looked like the r3 but mini.
watching the seats all fold, then him saying you can fit a giant telescope in... I'm sold. This is exactly what I do with my current SUV. I want that R2. PLEASE start making right hand drive cars and bring it to Australia!
I am hoping for so much success for Rivian. I adore the styling. So much more natural than a Cybertruck. Classy and understated is how I would describe the R2 and R3. Great job
Totally loved R3 and R3X compact SUV retro styling with futuristic tail lights. Really appreciate what Rivian is doing by bringing out more affordable and compact EVs ❤
I have to say. This CEO appears to be one of the best in the entire industry. He’s very smart, approachable, and explains things like a human! Not a robot… (Elon) I’m super impressed by the R2 and R3. Rivian needed a little Boost, and they just got a massive one. Let’s hope the production numbers can be relatively high and this company is off and running. Awesome Job

My family's first car is the Suzuki Swift, which is a fun and practical car. The R3 is a breath of fresh air for those who prefer smaller vehicles. This mighteven be competetive here in Asia.
@@AnthonyBullard There is ZERO EV adoption here because even the chinese brands are having a hard time getting the people's trust and of course, wallets. People here are very loyal to Japanese brands. Hybrids on the other hand are on a steady rise. My family for example is considering buying our next MPV, which is a Suzuki Hybrid.
Marques has close to 20 million subscribers...that is why he is getting the tour of the vehicle, not because CEO is "helping" him out. If marques showcases this car Rivan gets 20 million or more views.
