But this is too comfortable already... Enhancement for kids that are still wearing pampers??? RM2.5k for food despite the kids are only infants drinking milk??? Everyday eat Sukiya??? Entertainment RM2,000 per month??? Go Genting Theme Park every week meh??? RM4,000 savings is a luxury.. especially in Malaysia we already have EPF... if you need to take savings into consideration... some people might say RM30k net salary is also not enough cause can't save RM10k per month You cheap out on car but spend extravagantly on other things.

If you're lucky enough to stay with your parents in KL, it makes sense to maximise your stay with them. Of course, contribute your part to the household. Rent takes a big chunk. Living with your parents until you start your own family saves you a lot from the list breakdown. Efficiencies in electricity, water, travel, etc. can really add up.

I'm from JB. My dad works in singapore. People from other parts of malaysia like to automatically think that JB people who work in singapore are rich. We're really not. I remember back in 2008 during the financial crisis when i was 9 years old, our family was going through a very hard time. Luckily my dad didn't lose his job but there were no OTs or bonuses. Only the bare basic salary. My dad was in a big credit card debt, house mortgage RM2800, we had a proton wira which my dad had refinanced to help out his brother, we lived in a small apartment, i also had two younger siblings, one being 6 yrs, another 3yrs. After all our expenses, we will have RM200 for misc expenses for the rest of the month. I remember one time when i had a really bad toothache, we couldn't afford a taxi so my mom and i walked over an hour to the nearest dentist. And our household income was RM8000. This was back in 2008 where 8k was considered really big money. Imagine now RM10k mana cukup?

If you're a salaried employee, each parent would have to earn 12k gross to include tax and EPF. And its going to keep going up every year. Mind-blowing

My wife and I have a combined income of RM$12K way back in 2006. We have a condo and a car each when we first got married. 2 years later my grandma had to be hospitalized because of gangrene on one of her foot. We managed to save the foot but the hospital bill came up to RM20K thus wiping out our entire savings overnight. We had to maxed out even our credit cards for follow up visits to the hospital. We seldom eat out, we don't even go for overseas trips. Living in Malaysia is torturous if you don't have medical insurance and cash savings. This event led both of us to migrate to Singapore to seek higher income and stronger currency. Never regretted it. Good luck to the rest that are still struggling in MY.

Alternate title: Why having children is expensive This is why younger generation are less and less keen of having child let alone children, they’re simply too expensive Like a combined of 10k income can easily be very comfortable for 2, but the moment you add a child into the formula 10k can barely get you the barebones of basic surviving needs in KL Also Malaysia being a car based society doesn’t help, a lot of European countries or Japan being less car reliant ease up so much pressure in terms of monthly expenses, people in those countries either walk, take a bike, or commute to work cuz their public transport is excellent and their side walks are actually wide enough for people to walk on. Car instalments, insurance, parking, tolls, maintenance, etc can easily be another child worth of money.
@ikky_mkb

@XooX YooT weather is barely an excuse tbh. Countries like Japan has way harsher summer (up to 40c daily during summer easily), has their fair share of rainy seasons, hailing/snowing winter, etc. but they still commit to walking/riding/commuting to work/school without fail.

Actually, i dont think so. The problem with some people (a lot), they provide unnecesarry high education. High end nursery, 1 year 22k. Nothing special. Everyone race their child to read as early as possible. For? Let them enjoy their infrant life. And the more u supporting this in your system, there will be a lot more coming up. Expensive and more expensive of unnecessary things. If u stop supporting, everything will go reasonable price. Society also shld be blame.

I think you could do a video on how to save on some of the expenses. Yes, it's tough but some of the expenses may not be necessary. For example, you can cut down on diaper costs by removing the jell and insert folded cloth diapers esp at home and potty train the children early. Insurance is another area that folks are overspending. You would only need about 2-3 years worth of your annual salary for your surviving spouse to tide over. Medical is covered by the company and you don't need to spend excessively. Anything more is just holiday sponsorship for the insurance sales guys. One spouse could look for a job that is not far from LRT stations and that would reduce the need for 2 cars. Or rent a place near the LRT stations if possible. Save less initially and build up it gradually via EPF savings. This will reduce the need for the high immediate savings that you are proposing. One way is to try to increase your personal EPF deductions to more than 11% every year. This can be done by having annual increments transferred to EPF instead of being spent. This way you save 2-5% more every year. Before long, you are saving up to 25 - 30% or more annually in your EPF. Maybe the baby sitting can be done by your in-laws. You can send them to early kindergarten instead of leaving at the baby sitters the whole day. Space out having children to 4-5 years apart so that you don't have to spend a lot on milk and diapers. You only spend the essentials for one kid instead of two. This way, the other would have been weaned off milked and diapers by the time the 2nd one comes along. Ask for phone and internet subsidies from new companies that you are joining as it is a norm for a lot of companies to pay their staff for the mobile and WFH expenses. There you go. Some ideas for your new video.

I will divide them per piece thanks to my wife for teaching me this. Reasonable price, 0.40 cent/piece. Dont be decieved by the low price but the number of pieces also low. 2. Milk powder. My wife and I opted with fresh milk. Sugar content is lower and better for the kid. Dont buy into the milk powder crap. 1L of milk cost around RM6-RM7, last 3 days. Huge saving compared to formula milk. I opted for Tesco fresh milk, taste can give FF a run for its money. Want cheaper, go for full cream, Tesco brand go as low as RM4. 3. Cars. You guys in KL, PJ got public transport. Work at places with that facilities. I work in Pg. No choice but i try keep my installments low. 4. Groceries. I put most of my monthly commitment in my CC to collect points. Once enough points, I redeem for vouchers to get my groceries. I usually get those non perisable ie toilet paper, detergent, etc. 5. Hourly house maid. I do the house cleaning myself, which can be quite tiring and time consuming. Only op for maybe every 4-5 months once. 6. Electricity bill. TNB rebate ending soon, its going up soon. What I'll do, dont on for as long as possible. Cannot tahan? go shower. Still cannot tahan? On for awhile, put the setting to dry mode if you dont have the inverter one.

If you want to live within your means and save some money start tracking your daily expenses, use excel spreadsheet and at the end of the month highlight the expenses that you can live without eg. eating out, watching movies ... etc. The problem with most people, they can't differentiate the needs and the wants. Yes, you need to eat but you don't hv to go out buying food every single day. Try having home cooked meals instead.

Best way to manage your spending is by structuring your expenses in hierarchical order. From health/insurance to leisure. Even though I'm single and living in an owned house, RM1k is barely passable, so now no steady work/income, i had to let go alot of things. Then we also have to cover our own personal needs & Honestly it's not enough. There is a difference between living comfortably & surviving. Yep i agree.. I can think 2 main source why our currency dropping. 1) we hv to many foreign workers working in M'sia. From my knowledge, they (foreign worker) would send most of their salary(that they get in RM) back to their country. Because of this, M'sia always need to print new money to "Topup" the money we lost because it being sent to other country. 2) online shopping. Take Shopee as example. There also hv seller from Mainland China selling in Shopee. It's a fact that they usually selling item cheaper than local seller. Because of this, as a buyer, we would be more interested to buy from 'them' than from Local shop. When this happen, "We" Malaysian also send RM to foreign country. Our Import and Export not balanced.

Rm400 on groceries is enough and plenty to cook with. Why do people fixated on living in dense area while you can live in less dense area where you don't need aircond to sleep at night? For child care, rm1000 a month is just too much. 2 cars per household? Why though? Why can't a partner take public transport to work and the other partner fetch then to the station? You can save a lot more too. You can save a lot, work less hard and consume less time when your expectation on life is lower and with good discipline. Plus, that sort of living will hurt the planet even more. I think a lot people in KL are too materialistic, wasteful, spoiled and are out of touch.

Also, take up a hobby, as long as it is not “shopping” most hobbies can keep you entertained for a long time for a relatively low cost.

Yes. That’s why actually when driving big car while earning 10k-20k, it’s not gonna be a comfortable life n need to squeeze savings

3000 for food & groceries is a bit much. My wife and I work and cook and we only eat out on random days during the weekdays. Our groceries and food never amount more than 1.5k and we're literally living near Klcc.

One thing ive come to realize is that, doing sustainable business is much better than working for a monthly salary regardless of the amount of the salary, yes u have 10k per month and that will set ur spenses high, and end up with no savings, because u know ur getting another 10k on the next coming month, the higher the salary the higher oppurtunity to purchase higher value cars houses and what not, and ended up with no savings...and u spend half ofnu salary just to go to work so u spend what u get to go to work...im now doing few different businesses i invest on some businesses and doing my own business as well...but i do most of my work from home...my income is 10k clean...i buy 2nd car cash at 50k vios 2017...my monthly house payment is only rm900...monthly spenses is around 3.5k...and i have 40k savings in my bank...and im gonna make sure my cash reserve will always be around 40k...thats just my cash reserve...and planning to do asbf force saving for later days...these days its all about doing things wisely instead of following the trend...
