In most "free power mod" tutorials for the drz they recommend using an inline fuse on the positive wire going to the battery. Is this not needed here because the power is going through the R/R first?
Clickbait ... this is a beneficial mod on any bike ... defo no free power by doing this R&R wiring mod, stator makes same voltage regardless, R&R has an easier life with this mod, that's the only real benefit ... R&R could be mounted in a better place, ideally needs an alloy plate as a heat sink.
Definitely not intended to be clickbait. Direct wiring of the regulator to battery is well known as the 'free power mod' on the DRZ400. That is what our kit does. The series regulator does not require a heat sink or other cooling. We have thousands of miles on multiple local DRZs with this setup, and it works perfectly. Thanks!
Running the output of the voltage regulator direct to the battery, and bypassing the excess wiring and old connections on the factory harness decreases resistance in the charging circuit. This improves battery charging significantly. We will have a new video available soon demonstrating this improvement.
