THAT VIDEO WAS A LOT OF BROTHER, BROTHER! Figured out my spring for the smaller diaphragm wasn't strong enough that was included in the kit. Also the jet in the diaphragm. THANKS AGAIN BROTHER FOR HELPING US DUM DUMS.

I am astonished and delighted that a video of this caliber exists about a topic so specific to my needs. Really a great vid, James! I don't always luck out in that regard. I have an '06 1700 which I assume is pretty much the same, or enough so that I'm not going to get lost now that I have seen this. I especially loved the attention to detail, the asides about "watch out for the spring so it doesn't shoot across the room" and the warning about the orientation to replace the nozzle so it aligns with the inner pin. This is pure gold that, if one doesn't know about ahead of time, can result in an otherwise "simple" equipment dismantling ending up with a piece of useless garbage for the recycling bin, if the advice is not heeded. Thanks so much for this. I was glued. It's time to get out in my garage and start wrenching.

I have a 2001 and a 2007. On both bikes the plastic collar at the handle end of the choke cable has broken. My question is are the choke cables the same on the 1600s and 1700s? I have not take the bike apart to look at the entire length of the cable. It appears the same on the handle and wear the collar is broken, but I cannot see where it enters the carburetor to see if the two cables are the same. If I find a couple of choke cables from 1600s, will I be able to use one of them on my 1700? And vice versa???

I just got a 1600 2003 and it came with a k an n intake and it seemes to pop out of the air cleaner some times have you ever run into this ? also it seems to have a squeek when i let off the throddle on decaleration
@Jadams1911
@Jadams1911 7 лет назад
Im not sure what type of K&N filter you're referring too. If it's one that goes inside the stock air box it should be bolting in. if it's a K&N Filter that clamps to the carb, you'll need to design a bracket for it so you can bolt it to the bike. The squeak you're hearing could be a few things. Your belt is either too tight or too loose, order yourself a belt tensioning gauge www.ebay.com/itm/like/151476696652?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true Also make sure the belt is tracking in the center of the rear pulley. Jack up the rear of the bike and spin the rear wheel to check, use the adjusters to center the belt.

MY Pilot Mixture Screw seems to be blanked-off with a brass disc with a tiny hole in the centre of it. At 8:57 your video shows you unscrewing the PMS. Where your screwdriver tip is mine has this brass disc. I'm tempted to just leave it alone, or is there a way to remove the disc to get to whatever might be underneath it? Any help appreciated. cheers and thanks for the great video.
@Jadams1911
@Jadams1911 7 месяцев назад
The factory installs a brass plug over the PMS screw. You will need to drill a small hole not very deep just so you can insert a screw into the plug to pull it out.

Hi I got a Yamaha Road Star Silverado Edition I watched your video on how to rebuild the carburetor it was very helpful but after rebuilding it it would not stay running I could pull the choke out and it would run but once I put it back in it did not it acted like it was running out it ran out of gas I can work the throttle real quick and keep it running that way but once I stopped doing that it stopped running can you give me any pointers on where to look or how to solve this problem
@Jadams1911
@Jadams1911 7 лет назад
Well first off, did you remove the carburetor manifold from the heads? It sounds like you have an air leak somewhere. also make sure the manifold tube is blocked off or it will cause the bike to need the choke on to run at idle.
@rockynymia
@rockynymia 6 лет назад
James Adams I have same problem where is manifold tube
@EbaleyTheRogue
@EbaleyTheRogue 6 лет назад
Interesting, Frank. The reason I stumbled onto James' great vid is because I have the same issue. I too wonder where the manifold tube is. On a side note, I wonder why a tube would be made that is required to be blocked off. I'm more a computer guy than a weekend mechanic, but I dig diving in to figure this stuff out. I just don't have a lot of background to know what the heck I'm doing. Did you discover where the tube was, and did somehow blocking it solve your problem?

Hi again I jetted my bike and now wen I am riding 4-5 gear and gives full throttle somthing is wrong what do you think it is it feels like it’s runing better on choke does that mean it’s getting to little fuel or to much is it enough to turn the mixture screw or what do I do
@Jadams1911
@Jadams1911 6 лет назад
First turn the PMS screw in and seat it lightly, then back it out 2 1/2 turns. Now get the bike at operating temp. Now start adjusting the idle screw, make sure the bike idles around 900 rpms. anything lower then that doesn't produce the correct oil pressure.

What is that cable coming off the carb with a plastic head that looks like it can be turned
@Jadams1911
@Jadams1911 6 лет назад
That is the idle control cable. Do not adjust it if your bike is running well. The idle control will affect how the bike runs because it works with the PMS screw.

Good morning I was wondering if you could help me Figure out a problem I've had reoccurring problem even after I've rebuilt the carburetor of flooding the bike runs fine and then it percolate After I run it a while it pour gas out I have to let it cool for almost an hour 1/2 before I can try to Start it again or it'll continue to perculate And pour more gas out I really don't know what direction to take I was wondering if you could Point me In the right direction it a 2005 Yamaha roadstar Silverado 1656cc It really is a headache because I don't have confidence in the bike it's left me on the side of the road several times until it wants to run
@Jadams1911

You need to replace the needle set. It's allowing gas to bypass the float needle causing carb puke. I've had the same thing happen to me.

My fuel pump primes only when hoses aren't connected as soon as I hook them up fuel pump wont prime. Any help is appreciated.
@Jadams1911
@Jadams1911 3 года назад
First you need to attach a hose to the carb bowl drain tube and drain the carb, Retighten the drain screw and turn your key on and check to see if the fuel pump fills the carb. If it doesn't then check the screen that is inside the fuel tube , It could be plugged.

@MrDunnyglenn
@MrDunnyglenn 4 года назад
At 9:51 you are removing an air jet that is solid. When I removed each of my jets, I put them in a bag. I did not have any solid jets. I had been riding to work with no issues. Went about a year of not riding. Tried to start bike one day and it would only turn over. I figured since it had been sitting I needed to clean the carb. Cleaned and replaced what jets came with the kit I had, but it's still just turning over. If i place my hand over the intake it will start up and burn off whatever gas it sucks in and then dies. I'm stuck.
@Jadams1911
@Jadams1911 4 года назад
Placing your hand over the intake reduces the amount of air so it only needs a small amount of fuel to run. You have a fuel issue. You need to clean the entire fuel system since the bike sat so long. I would start at the tank. Drain all old fuel and make sure the petcock filter is clean. Replace with fresh fuel. Now before you attach the fuel line to the carb run a long hose from the fuel pump into a container and turn the key and run fresh fuel through the fuel pump to clean out any old fuel. Reattach the fuel line to the carb and start the bike. If you have cleaned the carb properly the bike should run.
@MrDunnyglenn
@MrDunnyglenn 4 года назад
@@Jadams1911 I should have put all that information on there too. The tank has been cleaned. Filters on the petcock replaced. Currently I have a container with a hose connected to the carb with fuel running to it. I'm going to buy another jet kit and redo the carb. I know for a fact I didn't take off any jets that were solid. Carbs are my nemesis. I'm good with the electrical systems. Thanks for the reply sir.

I usually check mine with the carb removed. You need to attach a clear hose to the bowl drain tube, attach the gas hose to a fuel supply jug, next hold the carb straight. lift the clear tube up and hold it above the mating surface where the float bowl attaches to the carb, Turn the fuel supply on, Now loosen the drain screw, The fuel should rise up to and be even to where the mating surface of the float bowl is.

A bike I bought (Roadstar 1600) sat for 19 months, runs like crap. I put seafoam in the tank and start it daily hoping it will clean out..Pull the choke out a bit and it runs great??? If I tear that carb apart to clean it, I might as well scrap the bike, I just don't have the where-with-all to do something like that...anyway I can send it to you. I'll pay you to clean it...I just don't trust anyone around here to do it.

Taking the diaphragm out you say use a Philips screw driver - big no. Always use JIS screwdrivers, using Philips screwdrivers is why you see the screws on carbs and particularly brake fluid reservoirs rounded off.
