i was about to buy a much more expensive european sports sedan and by chance tried an ST...i was blown away at the price to performance ration of the ford. i could not believe how easily it competes with the 40 thousand dollar German. im getting all the options except getting the seats from the Focus Titanium. the Recaros feel wierd pushing in on my outer thighs..but ive driven FEW performance cars that put out like the ST and UNDER 30 Grand and 33 miles per gallon? I LOVE IT
I had a 2015 base model ST. It was a very fun car to drive and yet very comfy. It loved cruising on the highway. Sadly, it was totaled by a reckless driver on a snowy Oregon morning. Tried looking for another one but could not find a clean example.
Ya this is true. Everything you said is true. It actually makes me wonder how Ford made it "one of the best live axles on the market"? Everyone's said it's a great live rear axle but it's STILL a live rear axle. lol
I love it, now if Honda/Toyota would get off their 10 year dribble bandwagon and get back in the fun sporty car game, we would have a new golden era:) Great job Ford!
I don't understand the point you're trying to make here. it sounds to me like you just compared a mustang I wasn't talking about to a car I was talking about. I'm all about the v6 mustang. Love v8's...but the v6 is a better balance and a lighter car which has more potential for road racing applications. Trust me when I say it's only a matter of time when the after market starts pumping out IDRC 8.8's for the v6 that change the game COMPLETELY!
Thanks for the reply! Wow that's a huge difference from the supposed fuel economy. I wonder who drives the cars to come up with those numbers? A magician? Lol
agreed. One thing I wanted to add to this discussion is the fact that mustangs can corner better. WAY better. There's a slew of aftermarket IRS kits made for the mustang touting lsd's and even full lock up rear ends. If I had the money to buy a 2014 Gt I'd pass it up for a 2012-13 v6 with an IRS, track pack, and procharger as well as some minor sheet metal fab work to fit on some really fat tires on all 4 corners.
So I've seen at least 10 videos of this car being reviewed by every one of the major auto reviewers in a couple couple countries and not one listed expected mpg through their driving. I like this car but with auto manufacturers spa claims being disputed and the new fusion hybrid off the mark by over 15mpg in some reviews it would be nice to know what to expect!! If you're not doing something first, do it better.
I heard the focus RS cost $50,000. How can a car based on the $24,000 Focus ST gain a $26,000 tag with just 50 extra horses, new suspension, and a RS badge? For $50,000 you can buy a slightly used GT500 or Camaro ZL1. Or a new BMW 335i.
I love my 2013 ST3. I didn't like the POS marshmallow motor mounts that it came with. They had to be replaced ASAP. This thing has virtually no turbo lag, 270 ft lbs of torque. Boo Ya.
It has to be faster the 14.80 's my VW gti went 14.66 at the drag strip !! Well I went 14.94 then 14.92 in time run first round I ran out going 14.66 at 96 mph in 1/4. I couldn't get mine to hook up , it was spinning for 40 feet Ugh it was hard on my CV joints and front end parts I could hear it will hopping haha scared me but I stayed in it :-)
The trouble is, even after all of those suspension mods, it's still got a solid live axle. So it's not as good as it could be.. Live axles bring an unavoidably massive amount of unsprung weight to the party. This combines with the fact that the rear wheels are solidly linked, making any surface that's not perfectly flat, and glassy smooth, more of a problem than it has to be. However, it makes sense for the mustang because it cuts costs, and is great for drag racing!
Yeah, they just managed to make a questionable design work after much effort.. Reminds me of the 911!! It's engine hanging way off the back certainly isn't the most well balanced design (which is why I'm sure they keep the powerful engines out of the mid engine cayman/boxter!!).. But there are benefits, like great traction.
V6 mustang gets the same gas mileage with REGULAR while the FRS takes premium and has a harder time maintaining the same mpg due to it's lack of torque. Big v8's get the same mpg regardless of terrain. Small motors have to work harder to make the same efforts so mpg is more vulnerable to change.
lmao!!! I can't argue with that. It's only a matter of time before they get it sounding like a decent ride. But sound has never MADE a car. Unless we're talking LFA! But who wants to spend 400k for a car that sounds good but gets beat by 4bangers :/
lmao!!!! Are you KIDDING ME?!?!?! The BRZ got owned by the ST. If you're gonna waste your money on "balance and handling" go for the lighter FR-S. Or even better why not just buy a frickin mustang? That smoked the BRZ as well AND it's cheaper. And I'm not talking big v8 mustang I'm talking bottom of the barrel v6 with a 1900 dollar track package added.
yeah do not buy this car. they are horrible. Test drove one had it as a rental car took it on a trip. Totally sucked. Lots of noise and rattles, wind noise, bad transmission, cheap, cheap plastics and engine was buzzy-noisy. cant believe ford would RIP people off like this Lemon. LOL
Right, you had a Focus ST as a rental car? Tell us, which rental company would have a manual 6 spd transmission in their fleet? Your feedback is worthless.
