You are such an inspiring person! I'm 15 years old from USA and I've always been a tennis fan but I've never played competitively. Thanks to your video, I've decided to try out for my high school team in March and I just made a USTA account to hopefully start playing tournaments this summer. Keep going in your journey bro!

Good Luck mate, I started playing professionally with 14 (am 15 now), and you gain such experience and confidence. One tip I can give you, is: Train as much as you can, always focus on training, and it does not matter, if you lose a game, or make a bad shot, try to play as good as you can, but don't stress if you make bad shots.

@@tennisbrothers Yup. Most likely! At least I would heavily lean towards that possibility! :D (You've been thrown in the deep end from the outset, it seems. And it should only get easier therefrom.) The first win gets closer and closer anyway - and then the next one, and the next ..and so forth. Step by step up the ladder, young man! Patience, determination, confidence and hard work! It all will pay off. - Okay. Looking forward to the episode #5. Your exciting tennis journey to become a succesful pro player/ATP Tour regular one day - it is quite an interesting story in its own right and, suddenly, one of my favourite "shows"! Thanks for sharing this personal and as such always unique and compelling experience.

@@tennisbrothers i just saw a few of your recent videos and based on shots and rythm you are not far from your opponent. You have a strong will, very good technical skills, footwork, and physic. You played some good points in that match, but it just looked like you were always on the back foot and he was dictating the play. He was obviously a stronger and more experienced player, so no shame in losing that one, especially as all your pre-match tactics went out the window, as your original opponent pulled out. When you know your opponent's strengths and weaknesses pre-match, it's obviously a lot easier to plan, but maybe adding and a little more variety to your game would help. After losing that first set, you perhaps should have really changed things up, instead of trying to 'stay in each point'. Putting more pressure on his backand by playing deep and coming to the net a bit more, or serve and volleying. From what I could see, you were kind of giving him what he wants, which was hard trading from the back. I probably would have really tried to slow the game down, as he thrived on the fast exchanges. Taking more time between points and change overs. This can be done a variety of ways, but a good tactic is to hit higher and slower over the net. This disrupts the opponents rhythm and forces him to create his own pace rather than feeding off his opponent's. If you watch the pro's, when they are a break down or feel as though their opponent is in too much of a winning groove, they'll take a medical time out. A lot of the time, they're not injured, their just breaking up the play to disrupt the opponent's rhythm. It's a smart neutralising tactic to get yourself back in the match. Tsistipas isn't stupid, he know's that spending too long in the bathroom is going to annoy his opponent and interrupt his rhythm. This guy you just played clearly loved trading from the baseline and out hitting his opponent. So my immediate response to that, if I was you, would be to not give him what he wants, and make life as uncomfortable as possible for him. Make him earn his win. That's why it's important to have more variety in your game. You can obviously hit a clean ball from the back, and your serve is strong, however, these are the bread and butter shots that all the good players have, so you need something else. You'll beat the mediocre players all day, but you need an edge to beat the higher ranked one's. Practice your drop shots, slower higher strokes and net play more to give you that extra edge. The majority of youngsters nowadays pretty much play the same way, trying to out hit each other from the back. You need to stand out from the crowd and swim against the tide, rather than with it.
@tennisbrothers
@tennisbrothers 2 года назад
i mean firstly , what a comment 🙌 Love your analysis and feedback , i think adding variety to my game is a super big focus going forwards, like you said with the dropshot and volleys those can be key skills to break up the rhythm of the match, thanks for the insights 👍
@kylenathan1
@kylenathan1 2 года назад
Yeah this 100%. A lot of young British Tour players at the moment are about out hitting from the baseline with hard, rhythmic powerful shots and lateral movements. The advice is above is spot on - the only thing I would add is maybe try using slice a bit more too and aggressively instead of defensively. Make the opponent get low and generate the power, bring them in from the baseline to mid court and then push them back by following with a heavy ball. Use it to disrupt their rhythm: slice -> heavy topspin -> flat, etc.

You need to change direction, if your balls are going to the same place, your oponent will get confortable. You need to move your opponent, make them unconfortable. Thats why murray trained in clay. In clay points are longer, less winners so you have to develop a style where you move your opponent and make them miss. Tennis is not a game of who hits harder, its a mental game where you need to move your opponent so he never hits confortable. Hope this advise helps you.

Felix you have all the tools to be a great player. Watching your video some observations, your forehand volley floated several balls for sitters in the court for your opponent to pounce on. Your volley in those tight spots has to be better placed so you do not become a sitting duck. You have excellent ground strokes but appears to me your trying to win on every forehand / backhand stroke. Mix it up, higher bouncing balls, angles, mix it from slow to fast to slow ground strokes. remember the harder you hit the ball the quicker it will return. Serves need to be wide angle away from court. Kick serves to back hand side as well. Enjoying your video and comments.

I want to advise you to play double games more often. From my own experience I can tell you that after I began to devote more time to doubles, then in a single game I began to feel better at the net and understand the actions of the opponent at the net. I also got better at shortening balls and throwing crosses, which gave me a big boost in singles.Good luck

For what it's worth, I think you got gamed by the tournament organizers. Someone somewhere didn't want that first point to come at their tournament. Allotting an alternate based off someone not showing is kinda bush league. Yeah, dude hit really good. But then he should have been in the main draw. They just wanted to score him an R1 win.

You're an amazing player Felix! If I had to say one thing about your gameplay in this match, you had the right idea to slowly close the angle of your shots to eventually hit a shot your opponent can't hit back or have difficulty doing so but when building up to that point your shots started going towards the middle area which is usually a safe shot but if not hit with enough pace you're giving the other guy time to choose where to place the next shot. This then leads to you having trouble finding an opening and then you're always on the run, also making it difficult for you to hit any of the clean winners or threading the line shots that your opponent was making. Otherwise keep up that mental fortitude and conditioning, and try to keep hitting your shots with a bit more impact, should help give you some more time and confidence.

Really good fight Felix , in think that in the tactic aspect you played to much to his hands, he seems to like the high intensity flat strokes and you gave him that exactly, maybe if you would change the tempo, for example giving a very heavy ball and than going in for the net from time to time, or slicing a bit more you would get him out of his comfort zone. But again a great match and keep going!

Great match, you played well but he had the edge - he has a bigger forehand with shorter takeback and more lag --> more topspin, heavier ball and more time; he also seemed to read your serve well. All these little things add up to a winning advantage. Keep at it, he was much older than you, more experienced etc so all things considered there were a lot of positives from your side.

Hey Felix loving the content bro! All the way from Aus. In your opinion what could you have done differently? You said in commentary that you felt like you couldn’t hit thru him at all. On reflection, Would some variation and change of pace, heights and spin help? Just to throw an opponent like this off his game slightly, giving you better opportunities to attack. Things such as a well developed slice can make all the difference imo (1hbh for reference). Can really break up rhythm in a point and get you back to even standing when you’re behind in a point. (slower ball speed = more time to get back to a good recovery position and not leave an open court) Just my 2c mate hard to judge off highlights only 🤙🤙 don’t want to be a backseat coach lmfao Regardless loving the grind and work. Keep going bro.

thanks liam , i think like you said the only think i could have maybe done better was just like. you said mixing up the pace and changing the height and spin on the ball

Bad draw in a sense. He was so nimble and I supposed much more experienced. Over the previous vids you were more of a attacker, here maybe too much defense. It's kinda what happened, he was better than you in your own style, that makes it really hard. Also what about all the sugar in your breakfast? Do you phase out for 5~10 minutes after 60~90 minutes of play? That would be a glycemia (blood sugar) whiplash -- too much early on, triggering insulin pulse, then when the blood and liver sugar has all been burnt, your body is not ready physiologically to switch to another source of energy.

honestly the problem is at tournaments that the food options are generally very limited so i think for future events i will go to a supermaket to buy my food, i also think i should read and learn more about what you are talking about and specifically more about nutrition in sports , will be useful to me

Hey Felix I know I am in no position to tell you what to do. But as a tennis player myself I just want to give some suggestions on which areas you can reflect upon for your next tournaments: 1. Obviously as you said that it would have been an advantage to win free points on serve. So yeah no. 1 point being the serve 2. Obviously you don't want your opponent to get comfortable or for him to find his rhythm. That being said always use the first 4-6 games to find your opponent's weak point. If unsuccessful then try to cover your weak points. For ex- if you know you have a weak backhand, then make your opponent play max balls to your forehand. This is just an example. 3. No one needs to paint the lines every rally but give yourself a realistic percentage of the balls you play in all parts of the court. Doing it in practice helps a lot in tournaments. I figured this out a bit too late. But it helps. Apart from this I know you have an amazing knowledge of this sport. I wish you all the best for the next tournament. Cheers ✌️

That's a tough alternate to walk into, but it was a solid match with plenty of things to take away! I think it would tell your story a bit more if these episodes were longer (15-20 min?) with more vlog style updates on your drives to tournaments and mornings before matches. Obviously your matches and being focused is more important, but if it is possible then i think it'd be a great addition! Keep it up!

for sure, i want to add that element into the videos, but i also dont want them to get too boring for some people, i think if i go further in the tournament this will of course be easier

Good stuff man, you are a really clean ball striker. With that though, I think you give your opponents too much rhythm and pace to counter with. This guy is a solid counter-puncher playing well behind the baseline. I would recommend playing soft deep shots to his backhand without pace and see what he does. Just be willing to be the bigger pusher and make him get impatient. Also bringing him in a little bit with short slices then hitting a hard deep shot and seeing what happens. Mostly would recommend to avoid hitting max pace 5 in a row as it wastes energy and gives him more to work with. Good luck!

Honestly, I think the fact that your opponent got swapped to an alternate is neither here nor there. Why? Because you can only control what is on your side of the net. As long as you play your best, and learn as you go, then that's a win. I will make a few observations though (please take them as constructive). You recently trained at Mouratoglou's academy, and Patrick focused on hitting your groundstrokes in such a manner that the ball was meant to hit the fence at a certain height. I noticed in this match that many shots were dropping short; around the service line, or inside. When you're having your warm up, try repeating those drills. Also, and I don't know if this is a possibility due to logistical reasons or not, but I would have suggested getting to the tournament a day or two early, and trying to train on the same surface, if not even the exact same court of your match. There are plenty of other things which would be normal aspects of continuous development; I know we spoke before about this, and you mentioned you'd like to do more with your serve. How is that coming along? Do you have a plan for it?
@tennisbrothers

thank you for the feedback 🙌, also i am currently filming a video just about my serve, so that will come out soon, apart from that just getting more hours of tennis is the current priority and then if i have more time i will try to do some more serves

hey felix! great video, really enjoying seeing your progress, keep your head up and keep working because it’ll pay off. I was wondering how does it work with the outs and stuff? like is there a person calling if the ball went out or what? obviously i know these tournaments are not grand slams but yeah, i was just wondering! great video

with the line calls you just make your own calls, and your opponent makes his calls and if there is a dispute the tournament referee will come over and sort it out , thanks for the comment
