Part 3 of my Road to 400 feet series. In this part I recorded my new Overload Underload training for the first time, threw with Tech Disc looking to get a new disc speed personal best and I throw some distance lines in the field to see where my distances are

I've got over 6000 throws on my TechDiscs. My 2 cents: Your number one inconsistency is grip. This is why you go from 60+ mph to mid 50's from throw to throw. It's also why your spin is much higher than your corresponding speed. I recommend experimenting with different grips and using weight lifting chalk. I'm getting best results with a "pivot" grip. Your four fingers are as close together as possible, and your thumb is pinching almost through the disc as if you are trying to grip the disc at one point on the rim. You do not want to "fix the disc to your hand." You want it pinched at one point so it can rotate on that point. Grip with your fingers not your fist. The disc should rip out "painfully" on each throw. I can tell how fast I threw by how much it hurts. Try to achieve maximum speed during your follow through. Forming the power pocket at the target will give the disc a lot of momentum at the target so your follow through will rip your grip off. Don't aim by releasing the disc. You should be gripping your hardest when the disc rips out, and you will feel and hear it. You will never throw below 60, and you'll add about 5mph to your best with just a better grip IMO.

We have the same arm speed. I’ll be watching your videos to see if I can improve along with you! My tech disc record is 60.3 mph

Thats awesome mate! It's a weird place to be cause it's a lot faster then average and fast enough to throw quite far, but then you see people who don't look that athletic throwing like 65mph and you can't understand how! Hopefully I can share some wisdom on how to improve that speed or some of my form changes can apply to you! Just out if interest how far are you throwing?

@@MattRobertsonDG my max distance measured with UDisc is just 369 ft. I’d say I’m like 280-300 ish for hyzer shots. A little bit further for shots with more shape to them. Maybe 330 ish for shaped golf shots. Couldn’t agree more about not understanding how people look unathletic and throw faster and further even while looking like they try less hard.

@@MattRobertsonDG i probably only need like 400 ft of controlled distance for the courses in my area

@@adambroussard8192 thats awesome. Sounds like exactly where I was at. I'd suggest doing some gym work and general atheletiscm if you feel your body is in good shape for that (if not then some stretching and light weight or body weight exercises). And then just go to a field and throw hard. You'll probably throw 9/10 shots absolutely terrible and 1 close to your pb and eventually get more consistent distance. Thats how I got my 60mph techdisc to translate up to 380ft ish in a field consistently

@@MattRobertsonDG I absolutely need to get into the gym. I’m essentially untrained at this point. Haven’t had consistent training since 2015. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Your RPM's are nice. I struggle with RPM's. What is your mental cue for spin if you have one?
@MattRobertsonDG
@MattRobertsonDG 3 месяца назад
Thanks. Yeah spins a weird one as it’s mostly correlated to speed. But you can get it up a bit through technique, when I got my TechDisc I was at around 1000rpm tops, I increased it by feeling like I try to keep hold of the disc as long as possible so it rips out instead of being released and then number 2 would be getting as deep of a pocket as you can, with your hand on the back of the disc (in the pocket). I talk about this a bit in my Road to 400 part 2 video.

@@MattRobertsonDG Thank you for your reply. I will attempt these ideas. I also have a tech disc and I notice the harder I throw the spin seems to decrease. I'm currently averaging just over 1K RPM. I'll occasionally see 1100-1200.

@@epb0394 wow I interesting! That probably suggests that when you throw harder you're losing your angles. Do you follow me on Instagram @roadtoscratch_discgolf ? Happy to take a look and give you some thoughts if you wanna DM me a couple of videos

Keeping your head still as long as the disc has ripped out from hand is one thing what makes higher rpm. If you turn too early with head it eats your speed and rpm.
