First off, it random generates a player to have frame advantage, so there's no defining way to know if you can effectively do some combos etc... There's other nonsensical things wrong with it. I love it, game is hella fun, and super competitive, but saying it's the only game to make sense lmao... nah brah.

Want more reasons? You can't start some combos on female ninjas cause they have weird hitbox. Many abilities are useless or near useless (Cyrax teleport comes to mind, Sindel flying) Your argument, ironically, is empty The Grabisoft

I only recently found out about tournaments like these. I live in the Netherlands, and when we were kids, there weren't any arcades around. I played MK games on the SNES, with my little brother and older brother (who weren't really into fighting games as much as I was), and we played with all of our friends, but most of them didn't own a SNES, and only played MK games at our place. So back then, I thought I was really good at MK games, because nobody could beat me. But we didn't know about all these crazy combos, the run jab presure, we weren't aware of frame-data, recovery frames, etc. Most of our friends only wanted to see the fatalities, and weren't that interested in figuring out how to actually play this game. It never really even occured to us that there was such a thing as a tier list. The only external information we ever got was coming from gaming magazines, but hardly anybody bought those, and all they wrote about was either lore or finishing moves. Remember, we were just kids back then, and every character was as good or bad as the dude playing him/her. I never knew Kabal was this crazy good for example. It's really cool finding all of this shit out, years later, and I've watched a bunch of these tournaments; they're a lot of fun to watch.

15:57 & 15:58 Look at the effort L.I. Joe throws into all of his movements and how much he gets into the game. When that spear connects at 15:58 he damn near takes all the hair off his head from coming out of his seat so fast and Shock absolutely loves it because it's a mutual love and respect for the game and for each other as competitors. So many awesome moments in this video, it makes me very happy someone recorded this and allows us to enjoy it whenever we please. The guy in the red shirt, who got bodied, deserves to be archived as a douche though and hearing and seeing the commentator(s) call him out on multiple occasions is priceless.
MK was the red headed step child of the FGC for years, until we brought it back in the early 2000s. It wasn't until around 2005 when UMK3 started getting respect and other MK started to get some play as well. This opened the door for MK9.

I've played and watched quite a few fighting games at tournament level. I'm pretty sure this is the highest form of meta game I have ever seen at competitive level. So Badass

@outworlddragoon I mean vs Joe in the Winners and Grand Finals, I did use Smoke, Ermac, Sonya, and Kabal against Joe alone, that's more characters used than any 2 average tournament players combined uses in a tournament. I have used up to 10 characters in a tournament before, and I don't have to do that.
Not only were there Fatalities but I remember Brutalitys, Animalitys, Babalitys, Mercys, Friendships and level fatalitys. Some of them were impossible to execute in time to see it ever happen.
I'm in the top 10 of the best players of my country, and one thing i can tell, this game you have to be quick decider like a computer processor, more fast you assimilate the opponnent actions, more fast you can antecipate them.
rextony22 glad i am not the only who who thinks so...too bad modern game makers have no clue how to make a 2d mortal kombat which has same game physics like mk3 and mkt but with better graphics.... they focus on graphics more and u get fancy effects,but gameplay is not so fast and where is good old hit combo's back ??? and yes i still prefer MK3 trilogy it's best mk game,and real fans will understand.
@outworlddragoon smoke is a good character, but i wouldn't say any in this game best. This game is surprisingly balanced for its time, unlike most fighting games that come out nowadays

I've had the Mortal Kombat Kollection on Steam for a few months now. After watching several vids of how the pros play, I'ma put in time to learn how to do it like them.
Of course, it's funny to look at this, because over the years the level of players has grown very very much, and any top or pre-top did not even feel these players from the video, any current experienced player would have easily destroyed them
@TheFaisalano That is why when I use to play umk3 on xbox live,I use to use 3 different characters,it was human smoke,unmasked sub zero,and cyber smoke.Have been using those 3 characters since they were playable in the series.I rather keep my mind open with characters,then just stick with only 1.
There is a reason for that. SF2 and all its updates, especially Super Turbo, were so ahead of their time that they are a viable tournament game for pros today. Mortal Kombat is just a casual game. Its got a cool backstory, cool characters, and a ton of charm, but its just not a competitive fighting game.

@REBELMEDIAVIDEOS Could be because people have seen the tournaments and thought; "Hmm, I'll use that character because all the pros are". I can't say for sure as I don't have UMK3 for 360 (Not available anymore) but I presume that might be the case. Same with Ryu in SSF4 and Daigo.
You need to press the buttons faster. That combo will be blockable after the first hit if you aren't quick enough with the button inputs. Just do the input as fast as you can and it should be unblockable. If you are having too much trouble you can always just do his 2 hit pop up in whatever combo you are trying to do, i think the difference in damage is like 2%.
@TheFaisalano well it depends, stronger characters wont have long chain combos, they can take as much damage with a 5 hit combos oppose to 12 hit combos. but they trying to fix it for MK 9 to make it a real Evo tourament.
I cant believe i just watched this for a half hour and didnt even notice how fast the time was going by. ive been looking on and off for a couple of months for tourneys of MK3 on youtube. is there a sight i could find some on? this was some greattt watchin.
