Road Trip #19: I-77 North in Virginia "Up The Gap"

A climb up the Blue Ridge Mountains on I-77 northbound from the NC/VA state line up to Fancy Gap. Route begins just east of the I-74 & I-77 interchange. This is my third video covering this amazing section of highway. Music: "Everybody Wake Up (Our Finest Hour Arrives)" by Dave Matthews Band.

When I was a kid we'd travel up Fancy Gap on old US 52. The scenery was great, but it took forever to get through the gap.

Freewayjim Thanks Jim. I came upon it by accident- I randmly selected DMB on my iPod & that was the second song that played; right off the bat I knew I was going to use it in a video.

Wow- lotta signs at the border with VA! Gotta admit that part! Nice ride- been a long time since I've been on that stretch of highway and it's as senic as it was in 1987! Nice ride!

wow, you were not kidding with the amount of signs at the VA border! Is this some kind of test area for road markings? Their spacing is smaller than usual.

European Roads I don't think so. Virginia has very specific (and restrictive) rules. They certainly make sure you KNOW not to speed.

I climbed Fancy Gap this past Friday and talk about scary. I went through here to catch 81S to Tennessee. Nope. Gonna stick with 40 instead.
