FeraxGaming no sucks for players too. you realize the players that bought the cards for 20 bucks just saw the cards ev drop to nothing right? like you realize huge numbers of players own roaring skies and now when they go to resell the card they paid 20 bucks for will be worth 2. you've screwed the players too they own the majority of the product

Agreed. Sure reprints are sweet. But once someone drops $50+ on a single card, then sees the value cut in half, they're gonna start second guessing on whether or not they ever want to spend that much money on cardboard again. Sometimes when some people get burned that hard they just quit the game.
@Guariita
@Guariita 7 лет назад
Don Ziolkowski Sure, Shaymin may have had a huge price drop, and you may have made a bad investment. But you gotta look at the bigger picture here. What about the average person who is trying to build their very own standard deck? Shaymin is basically obligatory if you wish to succeed in most matchups in the current format, and the old card's price used to drive people off, and now more players are gonna come and join the game. What if you want to get more Shaymins? I myself was trying to get a playset of Shaymin EX so I could build Mega Gardevoir, Mega Rayquaza, and many other decks, hence why this is such good news to me.
@tyed94
@tyed94 7 лет назад
this card game is also a very highly competitive card game and on that level of competition, you will be spending money on every single card to build the perfect decks. So it's common to spend more than a booster box to build a competitive deck just like any card game. most people playing are not playing for competition there playing with their friends. the reason people are freaking out is not becuase of one card price is too high or that no one can make a competitive deck. Pokemon does not give a fuck about you. they did this because the demand of roring skys cantinued to grow to the point that pokemon would make money if they lifted the off print statues of the booster box. They undermined you and the investors to make a quick dollar or two. if they really cared about the player such as yourself they would have relesed a special tin for $30 with a promo shaymin and some boster packs. this way we all win but pokemon wouldent be making as much money because they would have to come up with a new box and packaging for this single item for there belovied players. dont kid yourself man this is a move to make quick cash at the detrament of the investores. they dident care about the player or investores when making this dicessions. they wanted free easy money. so today be happy you can get a booster box that was out of print. but tomorrow you may find that no one is carrying Pokemon because there are no stable long-term investments for stores. The market exists as a whole the primary market, the secondary market and the vintage collectors market. so if you ignore 2/3rds of that market then you're shooting yourself in the foot.

The market exists as a whole the primary market, the secondary market and the vintage collectors market. so if you ignore 2/3rds of that market then you're shooting yourself in the foot. if they really cared about all the people who invest in Pokemon and their players they would have made a tin with Shaymin for $25. but they wanted free quick money. they don't need to invest in making a new card with new artwork and placing it in a tin. when they simply can lift the out of print status of their boxes for free and print them with no extra work needed. the demand of roaring skies is huge and Pokemon got greedy and brought it back into the primary market totally screwing up their investors. Short term gain usually ends up horribly for the players down the line who do enjoy playing and collecting.
@GTKDYLAN
@GTKDYLAN 7 лет назад
Thats a good thing, finally a company that cares more about the players then greedy holders who love nothing more then to control the secondary market and artificially spike the price. Thank god it's getting reprinted, having expensive cards in the meta is never a good thing because it creates some kind of paywall between players and that's not cool. Remember Tropical Beach? That card was very expensive and very limited, but Shaymin? It shouldn't be that expensive since it's just an EX card from a regular set.
@sparkzbarca

That's true, it sucks for the people that invested a ton of money in a deck, but that's how everything works, we know a card will drop in price one day, specially meta cards like Shaymin. Landorus EX Full Art was really expensive (Maybe 60-70$) during the Furious Fist era, now it's pretty much worthless.
@sparkzbarca
@sparkzbarca 7 лет назад
P0k3rm4s7 no we don't, cards will retain value if you hold them and the supply drops off. yes there will be an initial drop like a 63 corvette will be worth less in 67, but more in 97. the real problem is they could have fixed this simply by doing a reprint of a few cards. the problem really was a few cards, by making a small 20 dollar tin with some key promo cards they could have kept both markets happy

I won't argue from a collectors perspective because I'm not a collector, as a player I know meta cards will drop in value when they get reprinted, the meta changes or they stop being legal in tournaments (Now we have expanded, which is great because it gives more value to more cards). I can see why collectors and hoarders are mad, I totally respect that, but having the whole set reprinted is amazing for players, people will get more Rayquaza, Sky Field, Shaymin, etc. Who do you think is more important for TCPi? The people that goes to the tournaments and buys new boxes and boosters and interacts with the official tournaments or the guys that buy 50 boxes and just keeps them in a closet just because "It might have more value in the future". Like I said, I respect collectors, I just wanted to share a different perspective, sorry if I sound like an asshole at some point!

All I am saying, is that Rudy is a businessman, and I've been watching his video views and comments. I'm sure he has seen them too. There is money for him (even if only marginally) to make if he offers 1 magic set per month + 1 pokemon set per month for his patrons to mix and match. How long do you think it will last if he only offers the newest latest shit show sets MTG is releasing? His backlog is impressive to say the least, and Rudy knows I love him (I hope), I've purchased boxes and shirts from him. However, he can really capitalize on two markets here and if he is who I think he is, he wants to really give to his people, and offer an alternative to taking the bus to hose town every time someone wants some good shit. I'm shitfaced though. I don't know what I am saying right now. I hope this makes sense in the morning.

So, as with Magic to an extent, their choice is either help the players get cards and actually play the game or help people who put more money into it and sit on the product so that the actual players can't afford the game. Huh EDIT: If you're going to come here and try to have a convseration, please do, but if you're going to say irrelevant drivel and spew insults to people with a different opinion than you, please stop looking both ways before you cross the street. And go for a walk.
@sparkzbarca
@sparkzbarca 7 лет назад
DCAMM720 so the problem with this is that players actually want the secondary market too. if you opened a 90 dollar booster and the value of everything in it was 5 cents a card. you'd probably be not that happy. also that's not a collectible card game, that's a basically you buy a box you get 4 copies of everything in it kind of thing. players want to be able to sell the cards they don't want. they want also to be able to purchase individual cards and if Rudy for example had to sell individual cards for 5 cents a piece, he just wouldn't sell them. it wouldn't be worth sorting, listing, picking and shipping eaches at five cents a card. it'd be like trying to convince a toothpick factory to drop ship you a box of picks. if they had to sell by the box. they just wouldn't sell them. if wotc or Pokémon etc lose the secondary market. if no one wants to hoard them, that means by definition the cards have no value, if they have no value then it's not a ccg. if every card is worth a nickel then wizards might as well just take 80 bucks and sell you the whole set because the only way for wizards to justify selling you a box for 90 dollars is if it contains 90 dollars worth of value. if the secondary market doesn't exist it's bad it means the product doesn't have value. if people don't hoard this product at all. that's bad. wizards needs people to buy it to play but also to hold because that increases the value of cards. it let's them sell 1,000 boosters but since only 500 enter circulation the actual value of the cards in circulation remains high because not everything they printed entered the market. it's like we sell debt to China and pay it back with dollars they sit on. the dollars we give then don't enter the market, making the dollar strong. it's good for wotc bottom line selling boosters, increasing the value of each for msrp and for the players whose cards cost more but are worth more.

@DiegoDeschain
@DiegoDeschain 7 лет назад
@Don Ziolkowski The logic is overall solid in your argument and I'm pretty familiar with all that btw. There's just one thing wrong with it. I don't know a SINGLE person, who plays the game (be it mtg, pokémon, or whatever), and has that so called need for knowing their cards are worth money. My friends all want to pull Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, not because it's worth 25 dollars, but because they want to play with it, they want it in their decks. People only want to know their cards are worth money because they paid high amounts to get them in the first place. I, for instance like Force of Will and because the whole "fow is dying" buzz, cards are way cheaper to get nowadays. I don't care if the card I'm buying is worth pennys, because I'm going to PLAY with it, and if the card was at 100$ I wouldn't even have bought it in the first place. Btw, that's the central point here. Regular people, PLAYERS, people who just wanna have access to the cards and play and have fun with it, couldn't care less if the cards are not "worth" a lot, because that means they can get their hands on them in the first place. The only people who cares if a card is worth zillion dollars are people who have the means of obtaining them in a a much easier fashion them the regular people cracking like a single booster in a lgs on the weekend so they can make money on them. I told this in another Rudy video (I think it was the one about the Nissa vs Ob duel decks) and I will say it again here. If the game has to give in to the whole "hoarders/investors" community in order to be succesful and thrive, then it's the very concept of how they make business that is wrong. They shouldn't have to depend on hoarders to be succesful, they should have to depend on PLAYERS. It baffles me that people don't see the insanity in the fact that when a game like Force of Will, finally starts being accesible for anyone who wants to go and play the game with any card/deck they want because they're cheaper, it is considered a failure. It's completely INSANE. When people actually can play the game because cards are not artificially inflated, it's a sign that the game is "dying" and should be buried at once? That's a sign right there that the whole model with tcgs and ccgs are fucked up and should probably be revised.

I don't think Nintendo cares about the secondary market at all. They're making so much money it doesn't matter at all to them if they lose a very small percentage of their player base the invest in sealed product. Most of their customers are kids who want to just play the game. If you think this is bad you should look at KoA's yugioh reprint policy. Investing in yugioh product is not possible.

Holding the Copyright and taking executive decisions are very different things. Just remember Pokemon Go and how Nintendo's stock went through the roof for a second when this game exploded. Then investors realized that no, Nintendo is not directly responsible for Pokemon Go and they were getting all its income, not even the most part of it.
@winner3887
@winner3887 7 лет назад
The secondary market is _the_ reason why they're reprinting XY-Roaring Skies and not sets *before* or *after* it. Yes, Pokémon is a game that consists mainly of casual collectors, but XY-Roaring Skies is incredibly expensive because of _competitively viable cards_, and in this situation, The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) had to either appeal to the competitive buyer, or the investor lol, which shows they have a knowledge of how the secondary market is doing and they had to make a decision. For the (small) player-base, the majority of them are pleased by the reprint of the set because before it, the game was "unreasonably" expensive to play. Rudy is upset that the company shot investors into the ground. Many TCGs do this, and for a while, believed Pokémon wasn't capable of doing such a feat, and is now upset that yet another card game reprints sets that indirectly shoots investors down. And... the Pokémon franchise in general is operated mostly independently from Nintendo, although Nintendo does have some level of influence over the franchise. TCG-wise, the most Nintendo ever does is handle the distribution and maintain a sanctioning body in remote countries like Russia and Australia. If Nintendo handled the TCG, I don't think they'd know how the secondary market is doing to make this decision to reprint the set in the first place.

Lol not really To get a full set of perfect Pokemon cards in a series is so hard to do with the odds so slim it is technically Illegal to sell Pokemon in the UK as it goes against the UK's fair play and gambling laws. Did you know that Pokemon actually has over 13 grades of cards they print, they actually print cards with flaws in them to make the odds of getting 1 perfect condition common card in a case of 6 new sealed boxes is in the billions. To get a full set of perfect cards from 1 series is impossible as there is not enough time, money or cards in the world to actually do this. we are talking about Googleplex numbers here as the odds. Pokemon CCG is very much for adults and collectors. The Nintendo games are just to get kids hooked on the franchise and to start buying cards to make collectors of Adults. I have seen a person open a full sealed pallet of 1 series of Pokemon cards and still not get a full set of the whole series nor all of the rares, foils, reversals, gems, metallics and multi-part cards.

they didn't lie. they said it was out of print; they never said it will forever be out of print. things can go in and out of print multiple times. if you think a company saying "this IS out of print" means it will always be out of print, that's kind of your own fault. unless a company specifically says they will never, ever print said item again (being out of print does not mean that) there is always a chance it will come back.

I don't understand why Pokemon didn't just release a Shaymin tin or something. Shaymin is the main reason people want Roaring Skies. 50$ a pop is a little too steep for people like me. It would have saved investors a lot if they just did that.

Great video. It doesn't show Pokémon is losing credibility. It is just showing that Pokémon prefers to get their product and their cards into the hands of their players. Since companies like WOTC (MTG) and Pokémon (Nintendo) make zero on singles sales and the secondary market why not reprint? If there is still demand, why not reprint to make more money and increase profits? These are collectible card games. You collect them, and play with them. If values of singles go up, great. If not, oh well. These games are meant to be played not hoarded, not invested in hoping for prices to rise. This just takes cards out of the players hands. Props to companies that do this. I think that companies are figuring out that if more money is to be had on a set, they should be the ones making that money.

I have an idea why they're reprinting Roaring Skies (or insert anything in here really). The companies don't want people turning current or recently released products into investments and hoarding them. The companies want people to play the card game. Players can't do that if there's not enough supply and investors/speculators are hoarding low supply items to make personal profits. That's not why these companies make these products. Thus, print the sets/products into oblivion.

I guess this is karma against investors over-hoarding an out of print set still in tournament play. If the player base can't get their hands on product at all because stores are all hoarding and speculating, there's gonna be a reprint even if they've gone out of print. There's only so far you push the market until the market pushes back. It's economics 101

It's good that Pokémon Company did this because at end of day TCGs are to be played and have fun with instead of being hoarded in hopes of making money. Pokémon TCG is no different in that sense. Of course best case would be finding solution that keeps both players and investors happy but finding that middle ground is not easy task. So that leads to one customer base being favorite over other. As much as single cards are needed on market what won't help that is people hoarding unopened booster boxes.

LOL the Pokémon market and target audience is for Children. Literally! This was stated by Nintendo. They don't give a fuck if hoarders decide to value it. Remember the WOTC cards? They cared! So the PSA 1st edition cards are literally 100$-1000$ dollars. But Nintendo changed it. Parents do not want to spend 500$ a deck for little Jimmy to have fun. Go to Magic the gathering if you want to Invest. Nintendo doesn't care about the rants. They want kids to play. It's literally been this way forever. That's why they even print boxes with Keldeo reprint promos etc... they even release a full reprint deck so kids can buy it as promo.

The most ridiculous thing about this entire reprinting is that they're literally reprinting it because the players need ONE card from the set and Pokemon isn't just releasing that card as a reprint or a promo. This is just greed monster at its finest.
@winner3887
@winner3887 7 лет назад
It isn't a complete upside... while it would be nice and convenient to get Shaymin-EX as a standalone collector's box promo with the original set symbol on it (or not; it doesn't matter, but they can't really make a unique promo since it has no alt art), since Shaymin-EX is literally the reason why XY-Roaring Skies is expensive, it may actually make the set fall even harder and upset investors more, since in the current situation, people would continue to buy XY-Roaring Skies boxes, and in your situation, there wouldn't be a need to open any. The other cards in the set has been run down to oblivion from the number of boxes opened. If TPCi wanted to cater to investors, they would have to ignore their player base's pleas to reprint Shaymin-EX and wait until it rotated from Standard. It would hurt their competitive buying market.
@Marcusjnmc
@Marcusjnmc 7 лет назад
I think they may want it out of rotation on the next rotation so not adding it to a new set, & adding the card to a promo tin or pack would of tanked it's value even more pissing off collectors more
@winner3887
@winner3887 7 лет назад
+Marcusjnmc I said that they could just print the original set number as a promo (ex: Gengar-EX Box), but it would still reduce the price and price of XY-Roaring Skies to oblivion so whatever.

I've asked a similar question on a previous video, but why should the company make their product more scarce to appease people who are hoarding it? If people cannot buy the cards to play the game then the came will not grow and the player base would eventually die down. Hoarding boxes and selling them for twice their worth could not possibly be healthy for the growth of any game, so why should Nintendo or Wizards care about such things?
@ms.sysbit5511
@ms.sysbit5511 7 лет назад
Voxx Skies they actually are healthy for the game and essential for its growth. Point to collectible games with valueless pieces that succeed. None exist. 1 "investor" is worth more than like 1000-10000 players in the company's eyes. Why? How much they spend. If you promote fraud(which is frankly what both companies did as they officially said "out of print" then printed again) to make money then you have some messed up morals in my books. Value increase is necessary for any game of this nature to survive. Players don't like it but it's not all about them. The economic illiteracy in this comment section is flatly disappointing.
@voxxskies3857
@voxxskies3857 7 лет назад
[TL;DR at the end] "Players don't like it but it's not about them" Is not how a company should approach a game. It is not fraud to say "We are currently not printing this set" and then see that there is a demand from the player base and say "Ok, we'll print this set". And "Investors" don't equal 1000-10,000 players either, just because they buy large quantities of product, they are just stores that leach product from the market and create unnecessary scarcity that in turn creates a barrier to entry that continues to grow higher. If they were equal to 1000-10,000 players they would help spread the game, get new players started, and actively try to grow the game rather than turn it into mtg by hoarding and jacking prices on the staple cards of formats. A secondary market is necessary, but it is just that, secondary. Complaining that the company printed more of a set so players can get cards that were too expensive previously is rediculous. On the note of games with "valueless" cards, why don't you give an example of one that did have valueless cards? Surely it couldn't be that the games with valueless cards don't have other, bigger reasons why they failed, and that because of these reasons nobody wanted them thus leading to no value on the cards. Such as being a boring cash-in on a popular franchise, or being made by people who don't know how to make an interesting game, or even... That the game was attempting to slip into one of the niches already filled by a currently existing card game while making no attempts to distinguish itself or make meaningful improvements to the genre of cardgames. For example, hearthstone, a game where none of the cards you collect have value in any way has plenty of clones which have failed due to making no meaningful attempts to expand upon the genre. TL;DR: Printing additional sets to make up for scarcity created by collectors is not fraud when "Out of print" may just mean "We are not currently printing this set". The secondary market is necessary to spread the game but is secondary to the player base. Finally name one "valueless" card game that failed specifically because of the lack of a secondary market and not because the card game had major flaws that prevented a player base from being generated.
@ms.sysbit5511
@ms.sysbit5511 7 лет назад
Voxx Skies One? Try dozens upon dozens that failed for that reason. They did not say "currently out of print" they said "out of print" as in every single one that will exist already does. Artificial scarcities are part of a market and healthy. They just show there is money to be made in it and thus have capital go into it. And yes Investors are worth more than players. Go get friends in the game. When your friend spends multi thousands on their products then they can be equal; until then not even close. Money is what WOTC wants not likes and shares. You cannot run a company on good publicity. As for helping players: they hurt players in the long run as this will hurt the game and when the game collapses everyone loses. It's funny how players hate one of the biggest and most important parts of their game that also sell them the singles they want to buy. And no one has an issue that WOTC wants money but if the middleman who aided you does he is a demon. Such inconsistencies.

This could be good or bad, but so many shops, investors and companies are purchasing every reprint available so that the common buyer can't get their hands on them causing the price reduction to come to a hault at some point. I've already seen reductions to 200$(cdn) so if there is just this one reprint and all of them are already bought out, the price will probably still rise again due to good cards available in the packs and the availability of these cards still. Things will be good for new players and those wanting to build/finish collection if it's a constant reprint for a while. This is going to be interesting.

Shaymin is not going to suddenly tank below 30-40$. It is going to probably go down to around there and then when the set stops the reprint it will stabilize around where it is at.

i mean, its a trading card, you're supposed to play with it, not hoarde it, so i don't really think we can blame them for making that decision, Same goes FOR Eternal masters, something that's out of stock should be reprinted in order for players to get some cards, with prices being too damn high *Insert meme.jpeg here*, its less accessible for them, look at Vintage, yeah its fun, for the 4-5 players who can ACTUALLY F*CKING AFFORD IT, anyway, that's my viewpoint, as someone who see TCG as a game and not a Financial investment, i understand that some people might agreee or disagree with my particular viewpoint, but that's one of the things separating us from mindless slaves, we all have opinions,

As an investment standpoint, this is crazy and I would be mad AF at Pokemon, like to the point of calling them and such.... But as a player, Shaymin-EX is a staple in 90+% of competitive decks with a $60+ for the regular art one is ridiculous. I would almost expect pokemon to make a Shaymin-EX tin or something, but this is a good choice too.

Isn't this reaction to the reprints for pokemon the same that created the reserved list in the first place? An out dated list that holds people out of formats and playing other formats like edh on even ground as people who have reserved list cards. idk Isee side for both arguements but reprints are needed for every card game to thrive. 350$ for a underground sea... heart breaks.

They absolutely can reprint whenever they want. Investing is a gamble. If a company sees the market getting greedy and making money off product they could be. Then they have all the right to make the profit themselves and help the player base. Wotc is just figuring it out that the hoarders and investors weren't making them the real money. The secondary market was hurting the player base and driving people away. The second wave of ema proved they were doing something to punish hoarders and help players. I hope to see more of this in the future.

I have to agree with you Rudy this is like what Magic just did but we don't know if these boxes of eternal masters where sitting and not shipped or so on, could this be the same case with Roaring Sky's and if so does is it deceitful? It's kind of a double edge sword do these companies make inventory errors and are afraid of just saying "Hey we screwed up and there's still x product sitting here needing to be moved." Or is it really being re-ran cause they don't want to fess up to the mistake?! That is probably info we are not privlaged to know or on the need to know basis but in the end the Pokémon holding company just like wizards never sees the secondary market money from transactions and need they're boxes to ship off to distribution to make their money and in doing so they're creating a new circulation and the hit cards have a new influx which creates the price plummeting and I hate to say this but what is good for a player isn't always good for a store, stores could have been buying the $9-$10 rare for 5-6 bucks two days ago and with this "reprint" we know that cost is going to drop and fast in some cases 50% so now they have to sell for lower then they bought it which in return hits them over the head cause the greed monsters "taking it to them" in the end that few dollar loss times X costs a shop a lot of money because the over head hasn't even been calculated towards that loss either they might as well burn them to keep warm when the power company cuts the lights off. These reprints are pretty much "bullying" LGS's now saying hey those singles your selling to keep the lights on guess what we want them to be worthless, imagine if this becomes a huge trend paper magic and Pokemon will be a thing of the past. (Can't speculate on Yughio because quite frankly after year 2 of that game I lost interest and touch just wasn't my cup of tea.)

Pokemon is for playing. professorial hoarders hold zero merit in the eyes of the product manufacturers. you can't be a bottom dweller and then complain when they scrape the bottom clean of scum. Pokemon should have no concern for the secondary market, it doesn't affect their bottom line. does it? they basically just reprinted the base set (again) and nobody lost their marbles.

I understand why people horde collectable card games, but as a player, it sucks that so much product it intentionally withheld from circulation, resulting in artificial scarcity. I wish stores could realistically make money on selling product rather than hording it. I personally couldn't care less about the value of singles. I wish I could have $5 dual lands and just play them. I just want to play these great cards in this great game. It is just cardboard and a lot of fun.
