Good video, I found an iron cap nearby that I put a claim on and yes there is tons of arsenic associated with the pyrite and gold. Respirator and other goodies will help you live longer lol. Recommend getting an assay done on your material beforehand to know what you are putting into the air.

Subbed! I like your shaker table setup. Seems to work well and doesn't take up a ton of room. Thanks for the vid, I'll be roasting for the first time soon and this was helpful to get me acquainted with the process.

Dear friend. I welcome the melting of the soil in your way. And in the end, when you separated the activated iron with a magnet, it is very excellent and professional. The question I had is how do you separate the gold? Chemical or brush fire. Thank you - Hashem. 9:59

Wherever sulphides have been roasted then smelted, for miles downwind, everything is dead, a moonscape. Sudbury, Ontario is a classic example. Then they had the bright idea of building The Inco Superstack, 1,250 ft tall, so the shit comes to earth 100s of miles away in the form of acid rain, which kills lakes and trees.

Great video! After you removed all the iron, did you smelt the remaining roasted ore to get the gold or did you pan only?

That's not just pyrite there is arsenopyrite which contains arsenic only do that sh#t outside and beware what is downwind, don't smell that sh%t

How can you tell if it's arsenopyrite or normal FeS2/pyrite? I am worried that I've poisoned myself now
@christopherjamesdean8835
@christopherjamesdean8835 3 года назад
@@KingJellyfishII as a rule you breath clean air with a hose or tank anytime ore's is being heat treated. ANYTIME. Sometimes wirh a homemade plastic bag pressure suit you can roast some reall toxic ore, like mercury rich ores that run with gold. Toxic ore is everywhere.

@@KingJellyfishII arsenic is in a majority of gold ores
@KingJellyfishII
@KingJellyfishII 3 года назад
@@christopherjamesdean8835 Well it's not gold ore, just normal pyrite in the slate (I'm extracting the iron, just because I can). Of course it would release SO2 which isn't very nice but in small quantities it's not all that bad, I'm just worried about other stuff that is worse (like arsnic). anyway I'll make sure to take more precautions when I do more than 0.1g of it.

6:05 I think those sparks are actually some of the iron oxidizing. 8:30 Although I may be wrong.

I don't think so but I think you are not far though. the iron is already oxidized in pyrite. I think what we are seeing is the sulfure being substitued by the oxygen and the sulfure burning. It would explain why it seem to suddenly go red in contact with the atmosphere.

@@MrTheboffin _"... the iron is already oxidized in pyrite."_ D'uh! Oh, yeah. Didn't think about that.

The best way to roast sulfides is get them red hot then slowly tip them into another container with a 1 foot gap . The material gets so saturated in oxygen it actually flares up and is hotter when it hits the next container burning off more sulphur than the actual roast. And the magnetic stuff will still have gold locked up .

Do you have any gold looking pyrite flecks left over or am I not roasting mine enough? I end up with a lot of stuff that looks like gold but I think it's pyrite maybe still connected with gold so I've been reluctant to take them out with a magnet but maybe that's what's messing my samples up?
@StevenHanover

Careful, platinum is magnetic. I watch all these goldrush sluice box shows and sure they get all the gold but leave the black sands not knowing the have more gold than the nuggets their getting. right?
