He was just hanging out with Dan and Phil a couple days ago and thought "if these two who have notoriously bad red carpet pics can roast the Met Gala looks, so can I""
@@CraiiZeD it’s wild but oddly enough a lot of the peoples clothes and theme actually worked better with you thinking sleeping beauty a lot more than garden of time
to elaborate, cause it's interesting!: 'sleeping beauty' in this context more or less refers to retired vintage fashion looks. also, that was the theme of the museum display -- the party's theme was the garden of time. so a lot of looks are vintage/vintage references, or a play on the ideas of time, decay, change, nature, preservation, etc. the story of sleeping beauty is definitely relevant, though!
Just wanted to add on, the exhibit theme was Sleeping Beauty which has fashion so old and delicate they have become fragile which is in reference to one of the pieces which has to be left laying down. The galas theme is Garden of Time which can be interpreted with themes already mentioned by @fabbygrench but is also based on a short story. I haven't read it but i've seen mentions of rebirth and youth and the reoccurring motifs of land, sea, sky, perals, black and red.
Also, the exhibit theme is kind of a petty confrontation of the bullshit stunt Kim pulled with Marilyn Monroe’s dress. Because the whole exhibit is about textile and fashion conservation, and how pieces deteriorate over time and become super fragile (and shouldn’t be touched with bare hands, AND CERTAINLY NOT WORN KIM.)
sean’s idea of “the sleeping beauty book dress” is actually GENIUS since old book paper is so fragile and soft, that is in tune with the theme whilst also using the metaphor???? forget donatella, give sean a designer studio STAT
@@meggymoo1697 "Sleeping Beauties" is the name of the temporary exhibition that accompanied the Gala, the theme for the catwalk itself was "Garden of Time"
Even if you don’t like some of the outfits, props to the women for trying. 90% of the men just turn up in a black tux and don’t even bother with the theme. (Also what was the actual theme? Some publications say “Sleeping Beauty”, some say “Garden of time”)
The outfit theme was 'garden of time' so thats why you see a lot of flowers (but I think some celebrities think the theme was sleeping beauty). Also I love Zendaya's look. :)
Sean rn not understanding the theme like at all is the epitome of "he a little confused but he got the spirit" lol. Just to splain jack, sleeping beauties is referencing the gowns and pieces that were a part of the exhibit. They were often so fragile that they could not even be put on a mannequin. They were "sleeping" in storage because taking them out of storage was so precarious. An additional aspect to the theme was "garden of time," so florals, time, progression, etc. But no one expects you to know anything about this stuff. And most people don't care.
okay so im gonna infodump rq the met gala is a huge fundraiser for the metropolitan museum of art's costume institute and this year the exhibit was "sleeping beauties: reawakening fashion." the exhibit displayed historical clothing that is too fragile to be worn (hence the 'sleeping beauty' part) and they were all displayed in these giant glass boxes alongside modern accessories to give people a sense of how the clothes would have looked/been worn (hence the 'reawakening fashion' part). HOWEVER. while the exhibit was sleeping beauties: reawakening fashion, the theme for the night was "garden of time," a reference to the 1962 short story of the same name by j.g. ballard in which two aristocrats (in love, of course) are being descended upon by mobs but their lavish mansion houses a 'garden of time' where whenever a flower is plucked, time moves backwards. they continue to pluck flowers and hold off the attack until there are only two flowers left. they embrace and share their final moments together, using the last two flowers. the mob advances on them and kills them and destroys their house, now left in ruins looking over the empty garden. tbh people this year reeeaalllyy missed the mark. everyone was very lazy and just went for flowers. there were a few definite stand-outs though
Even though I hate tommy hilfiger, the group Stray Kids really showed up like they stepped out of an anime. Hyunjin looked like itadori just with different hair.
Stray Kids deserves so much more than they got (and then had to deal with the racism on top of everything)… I just hope they had a good time once inside the actual gala!
Exactly. It honestly made me so sad. I think that the photographers were just jealous too, because they are ugly compared to Straykids. (I'm just saying)
Does he review their outfits in the vid?? As a STAY I’d love to see what he thought and I clicked through the vid a few times but didn’t see him reacting to them.
The theme was also Garden of Time. The Sleeping Beauty thing was more about the exhibit because they were showing fashion pieces from the museum's collection that they normally don't put on display because they are fragile and setting them upright can easily cause damage. The remedy was to lay them flat in glass boxes evoking sleeping beauty (although the glass box element is very Snow White). So the theme was a mix of nature, botanical, princesses and fairytales in general, and fashion through time so reviving old styles. It was a bunch of things and is open to interpretation. Also, love that you called Sarah Jessica Parker Sarah Michelle Gellar lol.
So, I don't blame Sean for thinking of the fairy tale, BUT, the exhibition is about something they call sleeping BEAUTIES. They're dresses and extant clothing that because of their construction, or the material they're made of, are too fragile to display on a mannequin, so they're instead laid flat in a glass case. The theme on the other hand was The Garden of Time.
"Here we have Mr. Seán McLoughlin, also known as Jacksepticeye, entering the scene. Right now, he's giving MoistCr1tikal with the cap, long, luscious hair, and stained white shirt."
Zendaya was the only reason why i was excited for the MET Gala but Tyla's outfit took my breath away. Don't get me wrong, all of Zendaya's looks were phenomenal, but for her very first Met Gala, Tyla was absolutely gorgeous. With "Garden of Time" as the theme, she absolutely nailed it.
I actually don't understand the phenomenon of her dress... she couldn't even move on her own. And while the front looked good, that shaped butt kind of caught me off guard (I felt it was unnecessary, it would have looked much better if it had just stuck to her body without shaping her buttocks). The dress itself is art (Tyla herself is art too), but the longer I looked at it, it started to look like spit-out oatmeal and not sand 😅
@@Surreal86 For me, it was less about how good it looked or how good it looked on her and rather how the look itself fit the theme "Garden of Time". With the hourglass handbag, the sand on her arms and shoulders, and the dress being made of sand, it already fits with the "Time" part of the theme. Then you add on the layer of how fragile the dress is, how fragile time is. As the night went on her dress was cut shorter and it started to slowly become more and more fragile, playing on how time goes on and we feel like we have less and less of it. The dress itself is a hassle with her barely being able to walk around in it but among the few looks I saw at the Met I really liked it. Balmain did an excellent job.

Jack absolutely nailed why I generally don't care for see-through clothing: it's distracting. You're noticing underwear or the model's body, not the dress.
@@aeidan900 And yet won't post anything on his RU-vid channel which has more reach and influence. And yet he's sitting here showcasing celebrity worship and attention instead of acknowledging the impact the met gala had on the way people en masse are finally over celebrity culture while there is a highly documented, ongoing genocide. 🇵🇸
Really? OK the had some monochromatic suits and maybe a few floral lacing? Not on theme and boring. The coats were literally German police but in a bad way
y’all are saying this because it’s your favs. they were boring and underwhelming and y’all know it😂😂those suits could’ve enhanced their beauty properly but they just looked like every other man
The idea of looking like a fromsoft character is perfect with the theme, and every single comment he made about stuff being boring and wanting *more* was valid af. And Wisdom Kaye was for sure the best of the whole thing. OUR BOY KNOWS FASHION.
I love this so much. I never knew I needed it and now I have it and I’ve never been happier to see him say “you look like a Wallace and Grommet character” to a man dressed in FELT
i was bursting of laughing about your reactions to some of these outfits. Man we def need a second part PLEASE! (my fave was "wisdom" man that cloak ruled)
the "reawakening fashion" theme is meant to mean wearing fashion pieces that are so old and/or delicate it is rare to wear them. like last year i think, kim k wore marilyn monroes retired gown
@@_Kuma_ They honestly did. I like what Tommy did with each of them, though. They all looked amazing but I got my hopes up a little too much with the theme. Now as for the paparazzi, I think Karma is taking it's toll thank god. :D
They fr look like they just came in their stage outfits Tommy did them dirty and I'm so upset about it. There was so much potential!! Where was the theme?! You have some of the most fashionable people at your disposal and you dress them in plain suits?!
@@someonenotsomeone8450not just fashionable too!! As people pointed out, you had FELIX who’s face was LITERALLY ALREADY ON THEME? And HYUNJIN who is actually ethereal? Like all of skz are gorgeous and that’s one of the very few things pulling those fits through 😭
I really need sean to understand that this is the best fashion review I've ever heard. Please start doing this. Imagine what he could say about new york fashion week or the oscars red carpet. I love it.

I actually loved this. The theme at the met for the show was sleeping beauties but the dress code theme was "garden of time" which makes the foil looks make a little more sense but not really at all still.
@@joelleconley9723 The theme, "Garden of Time," is also the title of a short story where the main characters turn into statues, so I *think* that's what they were going for.

Hey Jack! I love the video but I thought you should know that the name of the art exhibition is Sleeping Beauties but the dress code was actually based off of the sci-fi short story The Garden of Time by JG Ballard. The story is only 6 pages long so I definitely recommend checking it out! If you prefer to listen to it, Michael Hanson does an amazing reading of it for free on RU-vid!
