Rob Gronkowski opens up on Aaron Hernandez for first time: ‘I was definitely shook’ | New York Post

Rob Gronkowski has always been hesitant to speak publicly about Aaron Hernandez, his former New England Patriots teammate who was convicted of murder in 2015. In an interview on “CBS This Morning” in 2013, Gronkowski nearly walked off the set after being repeatedly asked about him.
Years later, when asked about it on the “10 Questions with Kyle Brandt” podcast, Gronkowski finally opened up about his experience with Hernandez and the situation that followed the murder investigation.

You know at one time these 2 were def the most undefeatable tight ends matched together like none other. Patriots were on a winning streak thanks to them! It's sad things turned out the way it did with Aaron...

The best tight end tandem ever
@johnselwitz5362
@johnselwitz5362 2 года назад
Rob Gronkowski is maybe the greatest tight end of all time, however I’ve always thought, and people have called me crazy for thinking this, that Aaron Hernandez could’ve ended up being the better player. He was faster, more athletically gifted, could move into a wideout position much more seamlessly than Gronk, and could even be used as a running back effectively when given the opportunity. It’s a shame his demons and poor decision making got the better of him, he could’ve been one of the all time greats with multiple Super Bowl rings.
@brian76541
@brian76541 2 года назад
I strongly disagree, I personally think Gronk is the greatest regardless. But I definitely think Hernandez would’ve been a HOF player without question if he never got into trouble. I could see him being a better version of Travis Kelce in his prime and he probably would have had better longevity than Gronk (injury wise). It’s an extremely tragic situation that happened though.
@johnselwitz5362
@johnselwitz5362 2 года назад
@@brian76541 Very tragic indeed. Aaron had the world at his fingertips but his inner demons won the battle. And perhaps I didn’t word that very well but what I meant was Gronk, as a pure tight end, is arguably the greatest ever, but as far as a versatile offensive weapon, I’d give the edge to Hernandez. He was faster, lighter, could play out wide and even be used as a running back. However he was only in the league for three seasons, so we never got to see how good Hernandez could really be. It’s just a shame.

I always thought him not opening up about their relationship was a good move on his end. The thing about psychos, is…well they are psycho! And who knows, football camaraderie goes deep, perhaps Hernandez was fond enough of Gronk to have some modicum of a relationship or friendship…especially to pen about him and his greatness before his suicide. So what do you do if your Gronk? Trash someone in public who was nothing but decent to you? Or say how you never saw it and how hard it is to believe only for it to be twisted by the public into some personal plea in defense of a killer. The whole thing is beyond tragic, but I certainly learned something from Gronk, no matter how hard you try sometimes saying nothing is better than saying anything at all.

I bet if Gronk was honest, he would say Aaron was a weird aggressive dude, not that there aren't weird aggressive dudes in the locker room (Gronk might be one, who knows), but he went beyond the normal aggressive banter. Then again, he probably didn't hang out with him after football work hours either. There are a lot of things we do not know about the people we work with that might disturb us, even if you occasionally go out after work.

I had moved from Paterson NJ to Clarksville tn and I had met this guy from Camden NJ and from the first time I met him we were close I mean after about 4;years of working with him hanging out at his home with his girlfriend and new born kid he was amazing he was a hell of a mechanic and he had different trades and you would have to literally get him to talk never used any bad language ... But once in a while on break I would see him on his own just staring into space like he was shocked at times well about the 5th year were at work he didn't show up to work and for the next couple of days he didn't come to work so I went to his house concerned something happened to him ... But when I went to the door nobody answered the next day as I'm going out to break I see the us marshall coming inside the building along with officers from tn and Camden new jersey right there I knew this wasn't good there was a manhunt for him he was wanted on 6 murders steming from 1994 into 1999 he had moved to tn out into Erin tn he had changed his name and they finally caught him that day in Erin tn back in the countries side of tn and I never heard from him but I followed him after the internet came available camden at that tiime was caputal murder 4 years in a row ... That gave him 400 years for the murders
