It's difficult for younger kids or who ever to get into comics, NOW, the writing is dreadful, some of the art sux.. it's all woke bullshite. It's not like When we or I when we were kids growing up in the 80s/ 90s reading conics.

Heidi seems to be committed still to the 'Comics are fine' party line. Waid has come out and said recently, "We should protect the retailers." Whether this is self preservation from seeing the writing on the wall, or a genuine change of heart, I don't know. Maybe just Ouroboros infighting

Me too. As someone who wants to make his own story about his favorite team, the Teen Titans, it'd be nice to be able to make it without the suits from DC kicking my door in.

The Teen Titans were introduced in 1964 with the lineup of Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad, so that version won't be in the public domain until 2060, and (assuming you're talking about the new lineup from the animated series) while Robin was created in 1940 and will be going into the pd in 2036, Beast Boy was created in 1965 and won't be free to use until 2061. As for Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg, they were all created in 1980, and things get weird once we get that far because at some point in the 2070s I think the standards are set to change to the "life of the author plus 70 years" standard that most other countries go by, and while their co-creator George Perez died last year putting their date at 2092, their other co-creator Marv Wolfman is still alive, so assuming he lives to 100, you'll be able to publish your Teen Titans story in 2116 assuming the law doesn't change by then. Of course, there's other superhero teams going into the pd before then, such as the Justice Society of America which we're getting in 2036, it has some great characters like the original Green Lantern and Flash; If that doesn't sound good or if you just don't feel like waiting ten years, there's nothing that can stop you from making your own teenage crime fighting group and adapting your ideas to fit that.

@@SmithOfGear92 Why wait for it,just make your stuff and have fun. Just remember to stick to the laws and do it as a FAN so that the crows don't come for your eyes. Fanfiction is legal as long as you don't take their piece of the cake.

They won't let most of these IP's to expire additionally, we'll only be allowed to use earlier and quite undeveloped versions of these characters. Just create your own characters who can be serious alternatives. That's what I'm currently doing as an inspiring writer and creators without making shameless and obvious rip offs.

The sad truth is, if DC never printed another comic, very little of value would be lost. What maybe 5% of their line even reaches the bar of readable? Most of it isn’t even worthy of being birdcage liner.

My main concern is just that reprints of old books might get canceled or at least severely reduced if dc is shit down

@@jackclark5292 < Chuckles > The reprints HAVE already been severely curtailed, or have you NOT been in an Ollies Discount Outlet this year?!? There was FAR LESS released to those stores this year than previous years. Last year and the year before, they had PLENTY of trades and hardcover reprints in those stores. This year after August? Almost NOTHING! Great time to be a Star Wars and model kit fan, though. They have TONS of model kits and Star Wars toys (along with Disney, Marvel, AND Pixar toys) at Ollies now! Most of the local stores AND discount outlets have been having sales non-stop this year. They must be hard up for cash. Also, inventory isn't so great this year and a lot of what I see is last year's leftovers or the junk they could never push out the door to begin with!

I think there'll always be new DC and Marvel comics, but they'll be sub-licensed to an ever-shittier series of other publishers

My problem with the original image comics founder is the following.. Their creations did not grow once they left them Stan and Jack left the fantastic four and that book still flourished, just like Hulk ,Thor the Avengers etc. But now, 30 years later.. Where is the interest for shadowhawk, network ,Youngblood or cyber force ?!? See what I mean ?

There is hope. You could create comics that are interactive. Let's say you are a black lesbian and the comic changes the content based on that, you could create 1 comic that alters itself based on who is reading it. The AI takes your art and fills in the portion that needs changing and you can theoretically make 1 comic with multiple variants. eg At the top of your original comic it could say "this comic is suitable only for white readers" but when you use the AI it can change it to say "this comic is suitable only for black readers". You cash in on two markets (white guys who are sick of race swapping, and black people who want a relatable character) but only do half the work. The AI will adjust the content for you based on who reads it. This way you the artist don't have to worry about alienating anyone. IT's the future and one idea I think will save comic book creators a lot of time and money. If you like a black spiderman you got it. Just run the AI to add in black version for you. If you like a chinese spiderman the AI will create the variant cover for the chinese market. The comic book creator is getting money from all markets without having to commit to just one. The AI can mimmick your art style so there is no need to have to make these variants yourself. The reader can fill out a form that adds filters to adjust the comic to the way they like to see it. Just like adjusting the settings on character creators in Role Playing games. (where you the player modify their look and customise all their appearance down to the fine details) I do believe interactive comics will be something perhaps of a niche at first then become mainstream later. Eg with star wars they had multiple cuts of it. One where The Emperor was a guy with bulgy eyesockets and then they settled for the wrinkley dude we know today.

My guess is a receivership group will buy the rights and then license an organization to publish the comic. Example, if Eric July, Richard Meyers, Ethan, and a group got together and could come up with $5 million and be willing to take a 20% from the net then they could publish Justice League. You'd get "X" characters of the legacy and any new characters - like a fictional bad guys group called "The Lords of Chaos" - then you get the rights.

@@CaptainOverkill I don't know Discovery's financial position, but more than likely you're right. But I do agree that DC publishing is deadman walking. I'm real curious on how the future treats Disney & Marvel. Personally, I'm looking forward to the day Marvel bites the big one and licensing is given to farm out Spider-Man. Get some decent writers and artists to bring back Mary Jane, toss out the back wash from the '90s clone debacle (that still taints the comic), and return Spider-Man to battling various bad guys in and around NYC.

I hear you man. I've been doing the omnibus, trade collections for awhile but it's expensive(as I'm sure you know!). I have purchased some DVD comic collections which are inexpensive, but not ideal for me. I like a book in my hand! However, I am running out of space. Take care man:)

No chance. Back then people read and comics were for kids. Kids have no interest in laying in bed silently reading anymore. That never went away in the past, now it’s gone.

It's only Unlisted. If you started to watch it, it's in your History, and you can continue to watch it.
