"There's a lotta blood!" Yeah, what started as a fairly technical stand up kickboxing battle quickly became one of the most legendary UFC fights we have ever seen. Thanks to both men, for putting on such a classic war of the ages.

Watching Rory go down in that fifth round is something that sticks with you for a while. Still to this day when i think about that fight or someone mentions it... It just feels soul crushing honestly. Like i dont think of how badass the fight was, i just cant get over that moment. I cant describe it, but just imagine man... The absolute brink of death pain he must have felt to just absolutely sink to the ground in horror lile that. You can see his face as robbie comes in for the ground and pound... Absolute terror! I cant even imagine being in that moment and being alive to fight wonderboy a year later... Those guys fought their heart out those last few rounds. Rory must have felt so much hurt in that moment i mean he was so fucking close to being champion. He never quit on himself. Thats what makes that ko so haunting man, he didnt give up- he couldnt control himself at that point, that was pure bodily instinct because he was so close to passing out. Like the level of respect goes both ways here. Rory was a fucking badass fighter and i truly think the beating he took in this fight changed the trajectory of his fight career forever.. hes just that much of a warrior, same goes to lawler.

Robbie Surviving the 3rd round and weathering the storm at the start of 4th round is just impressive. Rory was so close.

What's interesting is that this fight starts slow, but people dismiss this. They were finding each others targets. It literally starts like a calm in the storm, but then really just becomes utter chaos. Both laid it on the line. This fight had everything. Thank you Robbie Lawler, and Rory MacDonald. This is still my favorite fight of all time.

Rory did an AMA on Reddit after this fight, i remember seeing someone asking him what was going through his mind in that staredown at the end of the 4th round,. His response was simply "kill him" This fight turned me from a casual fan to a die hard fan. Greatest fucking sport on earth.

This fight was something else, prime Robbie Lawler against a very hungry underdog in Rory. This fight is in my top 3 fights of all time, along with Dan Hendo vs Shogun 1 and Doo Ho Choi vs Cub Swanson.

This fight should've been in HOF in its year , it was so good , the pace kept getting faster , shots landing heavier , octagon getting bloodier , one of the greatest combat sports fights ever.

They cut out one of the best parts of this fight! Right at 22:36, Big John comes over to Robbie and says, "Robbie, look at me. How ya feelin', baby?" Robbie, without hesitating replies, "I feel F***ing great!!" After seeing this fight back in 2015, it immediately became my all-time favorite fight. Eight years later, it STILL is!

Saw a clip somewhere of Big Jon talking bout how he was only concerned for Rory bc his nose got busted so early on. Couldn’t breathe out of his nose almost the entirety of the fight. Which is insane to go so deep with Ruthless. Absolute war that’ll never be forgotten. Thank you ❤

I think Rory was never the same person after that fight. The physical and mental damage to them both was huge. Rory is still one of my favourite fighters period. In whole of MMA and yet very few people mention him?

Rory had this godlike presence in there when he fought . Technique was chiseled and he always looked better. Sad we never truly saw him peak. Condit and Lawler made him human

Both the fighters were never the same after this fight Robbie lost his title with only 1 defense after this loss post fight (4-6) and Rory went to Bellator and became the Welterweight Champion his post fight became (5-7-1)

As a fellow Canadian, I have so much reverence for Rory Mac. He’s got that dog in him. Fantastic. Would have been nice to see him get a win, but even in a loss, I feel fully satisfied with his performance. Thanks to both fighters for this one.

I’ve always been a fan of Rory. Trained at Toshido back in 2007 when he was there, and then again in 2016, he was there for a bit then too. Always had so much respect for him, watching him train. This fight was really something else though, what a War. Rory is tough as nails man 🔥🙏🏼🙇🏻

It would be interesting to see how the Robbie Lawler in this fight matched up against guys like GSP, Usman, Leon, Colby, Woodley, etc. I feel like this was Robbie at his peak, and people always say once you take damage like this in a fight you are never the same. Not to discredit Woodley for his impressive knockout of Lawler soon after this fight, but I think it showed that Robbie was not the same ever again. The Robbie we see in this fight had the best chin and durability that we've ever seen in the welterweight division.

Probably my favorite fight in UFC history, and heavily deserved to be in the HOF ever since it took place. This is the definition of two people taking off years of each other’s lifespan during a fight, with Lawler and MacDonald’s games both devolving to the point they basically had ditched trying to win safely for attempting to take each other’s life. I wholeheartedly believe that this was the closest somebody may have gotten to dying during a fight. It sure as hell looked like it.
