I agree with James Fletcher was better at retaining the ball and passing and at international football that's more important than at club level. A class pro as well unlike Robbie. I'm completely on Leighton James' side here.

Savage was definitely good enough for that squad. He would be picked for the current squad also if he was still playing. It's easy to forget that Savage was a really good player in his time. The amount of players Toshack fell out with really screwed up the national team.
RIP to Leighton James. He was my coach at Port Talbot FC back in 2004ish and he was a nasty person. Not personable, no advice, nothing. Just there for the money. Sad but true.

As a player John Toshack was excellent alongside Keegan for Liverpool, but as a man, he just can't be trusted. He should get the Jackanory job, he's made for it 👍

Savage was a solid player for his era the problem was their were a lot of other top level players around him and that came up with him at youth level. He also knew hwo to get stuck in which some players hated.
Never lost against Villa in 6 games when he played for Blues. Shame really because he spoilt it all when he left Blues on bad terms. He'd still be really well thought of otherwise.
In his prime, Leighton James was the best winger in Europe. If he'd been English he'd have walked into the England team. But he does come over as a bit dogmatic.

Robbie & Leighton are both Legends !! but of a differant era, they both played football at the highest level for both club or country and are very passionate welshmen, proud about everything welsh. i have nothing but total respect for both robbie & leighton, even the best have disagreements, lol well done both for yor contribution to football, thank you very much, cheers !!
Savage is always sour that he never qualified with us, and now in Euro 2016 we have a good chance he is bringing things up again and he never cared about us, he only cared about wales when he was playing not otherwise
